Drivers, on your marks! Sometimes, September seems like the beginning of a Formula 1 drag race, where the long, lean, overpowered cars are sitting in front of the light tree waiting anxiously and revving their engines. The sound is deafening. Then the lights turn green and the front of the car rears up as the back tires spin and smoke and then the cars are … OFF!! August starts our engines revving. We hear the band and the teams practicing. We see the back- to-school supplies pile up in the stores. We can tell it’s beginning to … well, begin. It’s that way in the Church as well. Things will be starting up in new ways this year. Look around and you’ll see new things in the Youth Ministries, the Children’s Ministries, Missions, and all the rest. Newness is springing up (or should I say Falling down, in this season). The goal is to “raise the temperature” of our ministry activity around here, and I hope you join in the fun of serving Christ and our community here at Monroe UMC. As we do this, let me share a strong conviction of mine. I believe that every member needs to have a ministry. The ministry of this church is not done by our staff. The ministry of this church is done by the Church … you. The role of our staff is to equip the saints for ministry. Our job is to do the background work and the training work to allow you to do the ministry to which God has called you. Therefore, we all pitch in and work. We all share our financial resources to pay for the ministry. We all pray for this church. We all show up. This is not about guilt. This is about serving God. This is not about helping the preacher out. This is not about doing one more thing for the “church.” This is about doing the holy work of God. You have your own calling. Do it. This church has a calling to reach our neighbors, and it takes all of our hands and hearts to get that done. So, let your own temperature rise also. Examine your calendar, your checkbook, your prayer list, and your heart and figure out what God is calling you to do this year to serve God through the fantastic ministries at Monroe UMC. September 11 Remembrance

This year is the 15th anniversary of that terrible day when our nation was attacked, the Twin Towers fell in New York, the Pentagon was struck,

and some brave people foiled another airplane attack. To commemorate this day, we are having avery special worship service at 10:00 AM in the Sanctuary with all of our music staff leading us inworship, followed by a carry-in meal in Atchley Hall.

We will be inviting the First Responders of our area (firefighters, police and EMTs) to join us in worship and for the meal. Please make this a very special day and come to worship, to remember, and to help us all go forward.

Still need knitters

We have many requests for prayer shawls and our cupboard is almost empty. Several bags of new yarn have been donated. You can check with Ann Copeland or you can purchase your favorite yarn and turn in the receipts for reimbursement.

Hospital Ministry Visitation

It’s not too late to sign up for the Hospital Ministry Visitation Team. Team members will be part of a rotation schedule, taking turns visiting church members in local hospitals. A one-hour training session and a light lunch will be providedon September 18 at noon, following the 10:45 service. If you can spare an hour or so a month to serve our Lord through this ministry, please see Ann Copeland.

Mt. Pleasant Update

Several of our church members and regular attenders were involved in the tragic fire August

14 at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Community. Several apartments were completely destroyed. Ann Copeland has visited each resident and is happy to report they are all doing well. Mt. Pleasant is providing for their physical needs, but this has been a great loss. They are in new surroundings without their belongings and need our support. Please lift them up in prayer as they struggle facing an uncertain living situation and grieve the loss of familiar belongings and friends who may not be able to continue to reside in their building. Also pray a deep prayer of thanksgiving to our wonderful God that no one was seriously hurt and everyone, including our brave firefighters, made it out alive. This will not be a situation that is quickly resolved. Long term prayer support is required. Below are the addresses of those residents displaced in the fire. Please drop them a card or make a visit to assure them of God's continuing care and of our concern and support for them.

Furry friends with loving hearts nestled at our feet

warm our hearts and hearths.

We ask that they be eternally blessed

May they always be kept safe

Have a comfortable place to sleep and receive nourishment andloving care

For as long as they shall live.

Whether furred, feathered scaled or finned, companion animalsoften become essential members of our families. They provide us

with companionship, comfort, and unconditional love, enrichingand improving our lives.

We at MUMC recognize the valuable role that animals play in ourlives.

Therefore, we will be sponsoring our annual Blessing of theAnimals

On Sunday, October 2nd at 2pm in the outdoor pavilion.
