AMFI Agenzia per la Mobilità e la Formazione Internazionale (PIC #: 948860500) is a quality non-profit organization, located in Celano, Italy, specialized in managing international training programmes.

Our non-formal educational projects and activities are organized in the beautiful medieval town of Celano, which features a 1400 castle, a simple, traditional and cozy lifestyle. The city is also well connected to the main Italian urban centers like Rome (1 hour by train), L’Aquila, Pescara, Naples, Perugia, Orvieto and more.

*** We believe that TUTORS have a major role in the success of our programs. Their main tasks are the following:

o Help the participant integrate in his internship place;

o Supervise attendance, attitude, participation and performance of the participant;

o Monitor the development of the participant’s internship and maintain regular contact with the Academic Tutor;

o Help with any problem or emergency;

o Complete a Final Report that evaluates the different issues related to the internship period.





Accommodation Solutions Our apartments are located in Celano or Avezzano, based on the internship that will be found and assigned to each student and/or on personal preferences. The two towns are some of the major centers in the area, which are very well connected by:

o ARPA TUA buses every 10 minutes; o FS trains every 30 minutes; o Our transfer service (upon request); o On the weekend, from 11pm on, students might use the Mamma

Sogni D’oro service bus, heading downtown.

Our Location, Your Destination

Celano is a town and comune in the Province of L'Aquila, central Italy, 120 km (75 mi) east of Rome by rail. Celano rises on the top of a hill in the territory of Marsica, below the mountain range of Sirente. It faces the valley of Fucino, once filled by the large Fucine Lake, which was drained during the 19th century.

History

After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, Celano suffered from the invasions of the Lombards (6th century). The city passed under Byzantine control, and was then subdued by the Lombards and governed by the duchies of Spoleto and Benevento.

From the 8th century, Charlemagne and his descendants ruled the Marsica region. Celano was elected Caput Marsorum (capital city of the Marsica region), governed by the Berardi family. From around the year 1140, it was captured by the Normans, who annexed it to the Kingdom of Sicily. Fearing that Marsica was becoming too powerful, in the year 1223 Emperor Frederick II ordered his army to destroy the castles of the region. Celano suffered a long siege, which ended with its defeat and total destruction and the exile of its entire male population to Sicily and Malta.

After the intercession of the Pope Honorius III, Emperor Frederick II authorized the inhabitants to return from exile. The new city was rebuilt three years after its destruction, about one kilometer from the ancient city. Celano re-flourished and was once again governed by the Berardi family.

After a series of struggles between the Angevins and Aragonese, in the 15th century the family of Berardi was dethroned by the family of the Pope Pius II of Pienza, allied to the Aragonese, who governed the city and its county. Celano was incorporated into the Kingdom of Naples till 1860. In the year 1591, the Piccolomini family sold the County of Celano to Camilla Peretti, sister of Pope Sixtus V. The city was at times also governed by the Savelli and Sforza families. From the year 1860, Celano belonged to the Kingdom of Italy.

Main sights

The square Piccolomini Castle, with round towers at the corners, was erected in its present form on the top of the San Vittorino Hill. Its construction was commissioned by Count Pietro Berardi around the year 1392, and was finished around 1451. In 1463, it was adapted by the order of Antonio Piccolomini. On January 13, 1915, the castle got seriously damaged. The restoration began 25 years later, in 1940, but was interrupted because of the Second World War and was resumed only in 1955, with completion in 1960. Today, the castle hosts the Museum of Sacred Art of the Marsica. The beautiful castle is easily recognizable driving on the highway Rome - Pescara. Celano is home to three churches with 13th century facades in the style of those of L'Aquila.

Our staff also includes some experienced tour guides, who can help you find out more about our local and national pieces of art, our special places like castles, medieval towns, museums, natural parks, and medieval churches. They will drive you through tradition and modernity and help you experience Italy at its fullest.

Language Course

From our experience we can certainly say that learning the language of the place in which you will be leaving, will it be a month or more than that, it’s crucial in order to understand the culture, fit in the new environment, facilitate the exchange with colleagues and boss at work, make friends, experience the mobility at its fullest potential. Therefore, AMFI offers customized courses in Italian with mother tongue teachers, who are specialized in teaching Italian as a second language.

These courses consist of: • 20 hours per week; • Classes of 3-10 students; • Daily verification tests; • Final Test and Certification.

The courses are often completed by complementary activities which also aimed at developing participants’ social skills in the Italian context, such as: guided visits, events of any kind, dinners, excursions and more.
