The season of Advent is here. Hallelujah! Let us prepare and make way for the Lord. The word Advent is derived from the Latin word adventus, which means “coming.” Advent is a time of waiting. Preparing. Remembering. As we prepare the way for the Lord, let us pray: Loving God, create in us a fountain of joy. Stir in us a spirit that is ready to dance, kindle in us the fire of gladness, set loose in us songs of praise, for You are the One who comes with healing and blessing. Amen Parents, please make sure that your students are getting enough rest. In our busyness, sleep is often cut (for ourselves as well). It is suggested that children ages 3-5 get at least 10 hours of sleep, children 6-12 get at least 9 hours of sleep, and teenagers get at least 8 hours of sleep a night. Scientists report that getting appropriate amounts of sleep improves attention, behavior, learning, memory, emotional regulation, and physical and mental health. All of these are needed to be successful in school. This is one way you can partner with us in your child’s learning. Please see below for information about upcoming events:

● The Secret Santa Shop ends this Friday, December 6. Your child can make their
final purchases between the hours of 8:00am & 10:00am.
● St. Peter will be participating in the Christmas parade this year on Saturday,
December 7th. See the newsletter and Class DoJo for information. I encourage
you to have your child attend this very fun event! Please use this link to

● We will be having a school mass on Monday, December 9th at 8:15 on the Feast
of the Immaculate Conception. Please join us on this holy day of obligation.

PreK-1st: Sheep
2nd-3rd: Angels
4th-5th: biblical town’s people (saints costumes)
Middle school: nice red shirt and black pants
Actors: dress to their assigned parts
● The Advent Program is Wednesday, December 11th at 6:00pm. We will also
have a video to show you. After closing remarks, you may pick your student up
from their homeroom.

This year's ADVENT program is just around the corner! Please plan to attend as grades PreK-8th present, Wednes-day, December 11th. Schedule 5:15pm—Parents please drop off your student(s) by the
red tile doors. PreK-5th grade students report to home-room, Middle School report to Library
5:15pm—Church Doors will open 6:00pm—SHOWTIME! *Very important...students will need to be picked up and signed out from their classrooms after the show. Students should come dressed as listed below. PreK-1st Grade: Sheep
2nd-3rd Grade: Angels
4th5th Grade: Biblical towns people (saints cos-tumes)
Middle School: Nice red shirt and black pants
Actors: Dress to their assigned parts
If your child will be riding/walking in the St. Peter Catholic School (SPCS) float this Saturday, December 7th during the DeLand Christ-mas parade, please read the important information below. The parade will start at 5:30 p.m. on December 7th. The SPCS float and volunteers will be there as early as 4:30 p.m. Your child must arrive at our float, #108 by 5:00 p.m. to participate. Our float will be located on Woodland Blvd/17-92 between W Stetson and W Plym-outh Ave. (see attached map). Woodland Blvd will be blocked off starting at 4:15 p.m. for set-up. You will need to take Florida Avenue and turn east on W Stetson to find temporary parking and walk your child to the float. You might want to get there before 5:00 p.m. as I'm sure parking will be hard to find. What to wear? Our theme is the Nativity Story. Please dress your child in the costume they will be wearing at the school Advent pro-gram on Dec. 11th. It may be cool Saturday night so please check the weather beforehand and dress your child accordingly. PreK, Kindergarten, & 1st grade: Sheep 2nd - 3rd: Angels 4th - 5th: Biblical town's people or saints costume Middle School: school polo shirts with jeans (school jacket may be worn if cold) Actors (Mary, Joseph, & the 3 Wisemen) We will bring these cos-tumes to the parade Volunteers: a red spirit shirt or red Christmas shirt with Santa hats, Christmas headband, or light-up necklace The children in Pre-K through 5th grade will be riding on the float. Middle schoolers will be walking behind the float. It is a DeLand Pa-rade rule that anyone riding in floats or cars/trucks may not throw candy. We will have the Middle schoolers pass out candy to the pa-rade-goers. Please consider donating a bag or bags of candy before Friday, December 6 and dropping it off in the school office. After the parade, please pick your child back up at St. Peter Catholic School around 8:00 p.m. The float with your child will head straight to the school once we reach the finish line. We will also send an update on ClassDojo when we've arrived back at the school. All parents are required to do 30 hours of volunteer work every year. In order to start, you must be finger-printed through the Diocese. To begin the fingerprint process, go to the diocesan website: www.orlandodiocese.org Then go to the Safe Environment Link provided to watch the Safe Environment Video and take the test at the end of the video. You must then register online on the link provided: www.Fieldprintflorida.com to make an appointment to get your fingerprints done at one of the locations listed. When asked for your Fieldprint Code, please make sure to use the correct one for St. Peter School Volunteers:

New fingerprinting costs—Volunteers: $44.00; Employees/Clergy: $51.25 Extra fee— there is a rescheduling/missed appointment fee of $12.50 that Fieldprint charges. Prayer is a wonderful way to help cut away from distractions of the season and open your heart to prepare for the joy and hope of Christ's birth. Here is a sample prayer to use during the season to focus your heart and mind for the birth of Jesus Christ. This Advent, Lord, come to the manger of my heart. Fill me with Your presence from the very start. As I prepare for the holidays and gifts to be given, Remind me of the gift You gave when You sent Your Son from Heaven. The first Christmas gift, it was the greatest gift ever. You came as a baby born in a manger. Wrapped like the gifts I find under my tree, Waiting to be opened, to reveal Your love to me. Restore to me the wonder that came with Jesus' birth, When He left the riches of Heaven and wrapped Himself in rags of earth. Immanuel, God with us, Your presence came that night. And angels announced, "Into your darkness, God brings His Light." "Do not be afraid," they said, to shepherds in the field. Speak to my heart today, Lord, and help me to yield.
