April 2020 Issue Over 50 Years of Serving Ministry
From the interim Pastor’s Desk… Well, I never expected to give up Lent for Lent. Or for coronavirus. But here
we are. And we are giving up Holy Week and Easter too, it seems.
That doesn’t mean that any of us need to give up worship. We are trying to
work out online worship for our last Lent Wednesday services, for Maundy
Thursday and Good Friday, and for Sundays. If all goes well, the live version will be on our
new Facebook page St Timothy Sunday worship (exactly like that) or the link
https://www.facebook.com/St-Timothy-Sunday-worship-104034497899157/?hc_location=group
(If you can’t click on this, make sure it pastes with no spaces or page break)
And there are a lot of churches that are successfully streaming their services online, plus there
are many different services on radio and television.
The best thing you can do right now, in addition to staying home as much as possible to
practice “social distancing” (where do we come up with those terms?), is to find ways to check
on your neighbors and see if those who are elderly, ill, or homebound need anything from you.
But if you even think you might be sick, STAY AWAY!
I am planning to send out E-blasts on Monday and Friday to try to keep in touch and I hope
add a little perspective to what is going on, the likes of which only those who have lived
through wars probably have experienced.
Maybe this is the time when you can work on regular family devotions. Again, there are many,
many resources for you. God is not practicing “social distancing.”
And if you or somebody you know is experiencing financial hardship, we may be able to help.
For rent and similar things, the best course is to talk to the landlord first. The same for a bank
or mortgage company. But I’m sure we can help with groceries and other necessities. Give me
a call.
Be generous with tipping if you get take-out from a restaurant. And they really do need your
business now. Those nonprofit groups you support may be taking a real hit. And yes, St. Tim’s
needs to receive your offerings regularly until we can resume regular worship services.
Continue to pray for one another, to send cards to the homebound or call them on the phone,
and to look for ways to serve your neighbors. Remember that the day will come when we talk
about coronavirus the way we remember the Great Blizzard of 1994.

St. Timothy Prayer Concerns
Prayer Request Form Beginning in February, names on the Prayer List will be published for one
month in the announcement bulletin and then removed unless noted
otherwise. Further publication requires an additional request. This applies
both to members and non-members. We will continue to list those serving in
the military and home bound as usual. When you have a request, please fill
out a pink request form located at the entrance to the nave on either side.
You may put it in the “office” mailbox in the narthex, place on the secretary’s desk in the
office, or contact a member of the Congregational Care committee: Janet Reinbrecht, Gary
Larson, Glenn Bushey, Lorraine Conrad, Arlene Young, or Mary Wohler.
Please keep the following people in your prayers:
Praying for the members of St. Timothy…
Updated copies of the “Praying for the Members/Associate Members
of St. Timothy” are in the narthex. The Congregational Care
committee would like to encourage you to use the alphabetical listing
which is broken down into 31 individual days to make it convenient
to pray for the members/associate members during your daily
devotions throughout the month. If you would like to have a listing mailed to you electronically,
please email the secretary at [email protected] and she will send it to you.

Months long water main installation to begin on Carlisle Pike in Hampden
Township beginning February 23rd through June.
Pennsylvania American Water will install a new water main on the Carlisle Pike/Market
Street following the pictured map from Feb. 23 to June.
The company on Tuesday announced that it will install a new water main starting about
Sunday, with work continuing through June. Work will run from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday
nights through Friday mornings on Carlisle Pike and Market Street and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
on adjacent streets, the company said.
One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction during construction.
Final paving restoration is scheduled to be completed by PennDOT this fall, weather
permitting, according to the company.
The work will affect Carlisle Pike/Market Street in Hampden Township and Camp Hill from
the Route 581 bridge to Route 11/15, locally known as North 32nd Street.
During work hours, customers will be able to access businesses and side roads, though
drivers are urged to use alternate routes, provide extra time and use caution while driving
near a work zone, according to the company.
The company will notify customers in the event of an emergency water service interruption
and prior to transferring service to a new main.
During this work period, customers may see cloudy or discolored water. Those who have
discolored water should continue running water until it is clear, which should take a few
minutes, the company said.

Mission Congregation
Trinity Lutheran in
Warrenton, VA
During the Lenten
Season, it is customary to
look beyond the needs of our congregation to
help others within our CHURCH FAMILY.
This year the Worship Committee with the
approval of Church Council will use the Mid-
Week offering envelopes to support the
NALC Mission Congregation located in
Warrenton, VA.
This Mission Congregation was formed by a
small group of faithful Lutherans in July of
2011. Since that time, they have tripled in
size, growing to two Sunday Services, 75
members and an average Sunday attendance
of 64. They are now renting an existing
church in Warrenton.
Pastor Dennis DiMauro has been Trinity's
full-time pastor since 2014. He offers
biweekly services at seven area retirement
homes and serves as a volunteer chaplain at
the local hospital. He also leads a mid-week
bible study at a local grocery store, as well as
confirmation. first communion, new member
and adult Bible study classes at the church.
Pastor DiMauro was elected to the NALS
(North American Lutheran Seminary) Board
of Regents last year and he also serves on the
board of Lutherans for Life. Trinity has been
involved in numerous outreach efforts, such
as street fairs, Pub Theology, "Free Prayer" at
Panera, bereavement and cancer support
groups, Stations of the Cross through the
town streets, a Bible reading marathon, door
to door evangelism, car washes, and yard
sales. While God has blessed them in many
ways, they are still young and dependent
upon the generosity of other churches to keep
growing. Please consider using your mid-
week offering envelopes to donate to this
year’s Outreach project.
Beginning
January 1st
through April 30th
we will be
sponsoring
Trinity Lutheran
Church in Warrenton, Virginia as an
Outreach Mission Project. Trinity is a
NALC Mission Congregation that was
formed by a small group of faithful
Lutherans in July of 2011. Since then
they have tripled in size to a
membership of 75. They are now renting
an existing church in Warrenton. Pastor
Dennis Di Mauro has been Trinity's full-
time pastor since 2014.
Trinity has been involved in numerous
outreach efforts. While God has blessed
them in many ways, they are still young
and dependent upon the generosity of
other churches to keep growing.
We ask that you prayerfully consider
contributing to this Outreach project.
Your donations can be put into one of
the blue envelopes in the pew pockets
and marked as "Trinity Outreach" and
placed in the offering plate. For more
details, please see the letter from Trinity
posted on the Outreach bulletin board.
On behalf of my family and
myself, I offer my sincere
thanks for the love, support,
and prayers expressed by the
St. Timothy family on the
passing of my son, Chris. The outpouring of
sympathy expressed aloud and through words
and kind thoughts on cards has been
overwhelming and a source of comfort during
this time of bereavement. A most heartfelt
thank you. Peace and blessings to all.

Call Committee: Members and Friends of St Timothy,
Grace be to you and peace. On February 20,
Andrew Hamann announced his need and
desire to withdraw from further participation
on our Call Committee due to personal and
health-related reasons and has asked for
everyone’s understanding and prayers.
Andrew feels badly about not continuing on
but stated that he is physically just unable to
keep up the pace that is becoming more
demanding as time passes.
The Council and the Call Committee have
accepted Andrew’s resignation with regret.
His participation and contributions as a
valued member of this team is missed. The
Call Committee and Council wish to
recognize Andrew and thank him for his
dedication and commitment to St Timothy for
the many months he faithfully served us all.
Many thanks also to Laurie, Luke, and Lena
for giving of their personal family time
together so that Andrew could devote it to the
work of the Call Committee.
The Call Committee requested that Council
allow it to continue its work as a five-member
committee. There is no provision in the St
Timothy Constitution or in the bylaws of the
NALC to prohibit this. The Rev. David
McGettigan, Dean of the Atlantic Mission
District, and General Secretary of the NALC,
The Rev. Mark Chavez, both agreed with the
wisdom of moving forward with a committee
of five as being in the best interests of the
congregation and of the candidates involved.
In a special meeting on February 26, the
Council voted unanimously to accept the
request of the Call Committee allowing it to
continue its work with a committee of five
members.
Please keep the Hamann family and Call
Committee in your prayers, and also continue
to pray that the Holy Spirit will lead the Call
Committee to the candidate God has chosen
to be the next pastor of St. Timothy Lutheran
Church.
Respectfully,
Will Harmon
President of Council
Church Council Recognitions

bulletins and next month’s newsletter.
Council Vacancies: Julia Martinez and Marian
Lefevre were unanimously
elected to Council as interim
members until the next
meeting of the congregation
on May 17th. They will
temporarily fill vacancies resulting from 1)
the resignation of Tiffany Goble, and 2) an
unfilled, 3-year term resulting from the
election at the November congregational
meeting. Both women are eligible to be
elected by the congregation at the May 17th
meeting to serve the remainder of the two
vacant terms which expire on December 31,
2020 and December 31, 2022 respectively.
Vacation Bible School 2020 Rainforest Explorers is
scheduled for June 7th -
11th from 6:00-8:30pm.
“The rainforest is a wild
place. To make it
through this unknown world safely, kids need
a guide who can keep them on the right path.
Kids will learn how Jesus is our ultimate
guide in the rainforest and in life. He leads us
to the treasure of eternal life, and He’ll never
leave us!” We are looking for several
volunteers to help. If you are interested please
notify Deb Stein either by email at
[email protected], by phone at 717 571-
9313, or in person. Thanks for your prayerful
consideration.
HERSHEY PARK JOBS PROJECT
will be getting more
active as we move into
spring. We are looking
for people to give of
their time to work a shift in the Food and
Beverage areas at the park. Your wages
($6.00 per hour) will be donated by Hershey
Park to St. Timothy to help offset the budget
deficit. You also receive 1, 2, or 3 free
voucher(s) to Hershey Park. Please consider
this opportunity to help raise money for our
mission here at St. Timothy. If you are
interested, there will be a sign-up sheet in the
vestibule for anyone 18 years or older who
would like to help our church by
volunteering at Hershey Park.
If you have any questions please email
Chuck Irvin, Coordinator at:

Gift Cards for Sale The Fellowship committee will
be selling Weis Market gift
cards and Giant gift cards. Not
only are gift cards perfect for
birthdays, anniversaries, showers, or saying
"thanks" for a job well done, they can also be
purchased for your use when you shop at
Giant or Weis. St. Timothy receives five
percent (5%) of the sale for every card. The
Fellowship committee will be selling both
gift cards on the 1st and 3rd Sundays,
between services, in the vestibule. You may
also purchase the cards during the week from
the church office. Benefits the Discretionary
and Fellowship Funds.
Are you tired of
doing the same
outreach projects
month after month,
year after year? If
you are, consider coming on Sunday, April
19th to an Outreach meeting being held at
1:30 pm at the church. This time was chosen
so people from the late service will have time
to get something to eat prior to the meeting. If
worshippers from the 8:00 am service are
interested, they can join the group at 1:30 pm.
The focus of this meeting will be to think
about new ideas and projects that will be
developed and promoted by people who feel
the desire. A short review of the current
projects will be discussed to see if they are
still worth continuing. Please contact Linda
Townsend or Deb Stein if you have any
questions. Hope to see you on April 19th at
1:30 pm to bring new life to a very important
part of our ministry at St. Timothy.
Months Available for Altar Flowers There are still a few
weeks available for altar
flower sponsors for the
remainder of 2020. Each

LENTEN APPEAL FOR HEIFER INTERNATIONAL
Their mission is to work with communities to end hunger and
poverty and care for the earth. With gifts of livestock and training,
Heifer International helps families improve their nutrition and
generate income in sustainable ways. They refer to animals as
"living loans" because in exchange for their livestock and training,
families agree to give one of the animal's offspring to another family in need.
It's called “Passing on the Gift” – a cornerstone of Heifer International’s mission that
creates an ever-expanding network of hope and peace.
Since 1944, Heifer International, a community development organization, has worked with
people of all faiths to provide farm animals that help families around the world become self-
reliant for food and income and to pass on animals and training to others in their
communities.
Join with the children of this congregation to fill an Ark Bank with your loose change,
paper money, or a check. Any contribution will help us provide some animals for Heifer
International. Return you bank by Easter Sunday – April 12, 2020

An Evangelism thought…talking with your mouth full!
“My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor
all day long”
Psalm 71:8
Remember when you were a kid and you tried to talk before you swallowed all of the food in
your mouth? Your parents scolded you saying “Don’t talk with your mouth full!”
The opposite is true with our heavenly Father. He wants us to talk with our mouths full. He
fills our mouths with His Holy Word and His meal of Holy Communion. We speak His Word
back to Him in prayer and praise. We are spiritually nourished and strengthened as we receive
His supper. He fills us with Himself to grant us pardon and peace. He feeds us with spiritual
food of which we can never get enough!
And it’s our privilege, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to share His Good News with others who
don’t yet know Jesus as their Savior, so that they may feast with Him as well. We confess
Christ’s name. We share what we’ve tasted and continue to taste. Our Father’s food of
immortality! In other words, we are to go about each and every day talking with our mouths
full!
Calling All Graduates! St. Timothy would like to recognize all of our high school and
post-secondary graduates in the Sunday bulletin and monthly
newsletter, but we need to know who they are. If you know of
or are a 2020 high school or post-secondary graduate, please
fill in the form below and leave it in the offering plate, the
office mail slot or email the church office at [email protected] with the
information.

The Meaning of Liturgical Colors For the month of April, the colors of red and white will adorn the altar area.
Red is a color of power and strength. It is used during Holy Week
representing Christ’s blood spilled for us on the cross.
White This is the color of purity and divinity. The
theme for the “great fifty days” of Easter is supported
by the use of white. This color assists in the message
that “though your sins be scarlet, they shall be as white
as snow.” Christ’s resurrection from the grave is the
cause for our rejoicing. His purity before His Father becomes our purity.
White reinforces that message of joy.

Group is looking for 15 or more

drive. Hosting a blood drive is a
great way to show your organization cares

utilize between 275 - 300 units of blood and
products derived from blood. Hosting blood
drives or sponsoring the blood bank helps to
save and enhance the lives of these patients.
Every day someone in our community needs
blood, whether it is an accident victim,
newborn, or cancer patient. If you are 18
years of age or older, in good health, and
weigh at least 110 pounds, you are eligible.
It normally takes less than an hour of your
