RAIL & AIR PROFILE
Foldable upper corner interfaces enable rail and air transportability for the LHS.
RELIABLE DESIGN
PALFINGER puts great emphasis on reliability. This can be seen in many details of the design. For
example, where possible, pipes are used instead of hoses to increase speed, reduce oil heating and
therefore minimize the overall cost of ownership.
CRAYLER MVP – Multi-functional Versatile Platform
The PALFINGER CRAYLER MVP opens up a range of new possibilities in military logistics. Among the wide field of applications, the
CRAYLER MVP can be used as a forklift or even a towing device for trailers, generators or helicopters. The CRAYLER MVP can also be fit-
ted with a camera assisted grab for expanded un-manned operation.
The unique combination of air transportability (fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft), high payload-to-weight ratio, and off-road capability
enables efficient usage even in extreme situations.
The CRAYLER MVP is easy to operate by remote control. Separation of man and
machine enables operation in dangerous areas without putting the operator at risk.
The hydrostatic four wheel-drive system allows the CRAYLER MVP to load itself easily
onto any kind of carrier by using two ramps. Because of its compact dimensions the
CRAYLER MVP is suitable for Air- (HCU), Land- (carrier-vehicle or trailer) and sea transport
(ISO-container) or by using its own stackable transport box.

FMECA
Before a new series of cranes is released to the market, the engineering team and representatives of
all relevant departments at PALFINGER review its design at FMECA analysis workshops.
FIELD DATA ANALYSIS
PALFINGER deploys a worldwide system to monitor all kinds of maintenance activities. Any new series
is developed based on this data to assure an increase in reliability of the series.
FINITE ELEMENTS TECHNOLOGY
High-tech manufacturing. For years now all the loadbearing parts have been computer designed app-
lying finite elements technology to ensure an optimized weight-saving design.
STRESS TEST
Taking the design from the computer screen to the test hall, PALFINGER subjects its components to
extremely rigorous stresses in modern hydro-pulse testing facilities. These tests pinpoint areas of po-
tential failure before manufacturing and provide further confidence and lower cost of operation for
the customer.
VIBRATION TEST
To evaluate the mechanical impacts on electronics, PALFINGER subjects critical components to life-
cycle vibration tests.
CLIMATIC EXPOSURE TEST CABINET
Critical components (control spools and electronics) are tested in a climatic exposure test cabinet
which simulates rigorous environmental conditions.
FIELD TESTING
Before a new system gets approved, prototypes undergo extensive field testing and operation.

KTL – Cathodic Dip Painting
16
PALFINGER‘s KTL priming system is a cataphoresic-dip painting procedure which provides automotive quality undercoating (exceeds
CARC requirements). This procedure passes salt spray tests of longer than 1000 hours.
The sophisticated surface primer is applied in 16 steps. Starting by blasting the metal with wire shot, the layers of scale present on hot-
rolled sheet and plate and the impurities caused by welding are completely removed. The parts are then degreased in two baths, rinsed
twice and evenly activated. This is followed by an application of zinc phosphate. After two further rinses, the surfaces are then passi-
vated and the parts are rinsed once again with ultra-clean water in a quality of below 20µs/cm.
Not until each of these steps has been completed can the electrostatic KTL coating process take place in which the part is completely im-
mersed in the paint. The part becomes the negative pole, while anodes in the immersion bath give the coating a positive charge. This
makes it possible to achieve an even coating thickness and at the same time ensures that the paint completely covers the part. The
coating thickness can be adjusted in the range of +/- 1-2µ (typical primer thickness 25-30µm.) Excess paint is washed off with two further
steps in an ultra-filtration bath and then the paint is baked on in an oven at a temperature of 115°C for 1-2 hours. The result is a hard-
wearing, flexible surface coating.
Topcoat is then applied by a paint robot according to manufacturer’s instruction. In case a special type of top coat is required, the paint
will be applied manually by skilled personnel.
