Why are we here (at this topic)?

• Preaching – Usually the function of the pastor that has the

greatest impact on the most number of people– Grace Lutheran is in the process of calling

(choosing) a new pastor who will preach– Christians should be able to tell good preaching

from bad preaching (such as the noble Bereans)• Good: we’ll talk about that in a few moments• Bad: contradicts God’s word, not centered on Jesus

Matthew 20:25-28 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Warning (Tears)Acts 20:19 I served the Lord with great humility and with tears and in the midst of severe testing by the plots of my Jewish opponents.28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. 29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. 30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. 31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.July 12, 2015

Faith in Jesus Christ

Galatians 3:26 For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.

Hebrews 11:1, 6 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Galatians 3:11 (also Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:17 and Hebrews 10:38)Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.”July 12, 2015
