ethnicity• Father: contemptuous and cold• Mother: dutiful and obedient to husband• Engaged four times; never married• Worked at an insurance company; hated
his job• Wrote at night; tortured by writing
process• Contracted tuberculosis; died in Vienna,
Austria in 1924
