Pastor’s Page
“Unexpected Friendliness ”
Many years ago, someone told me the true meaning of family could be defined as having some-one to love and having someone who loves you! As Pastor, I am often asked to describe my
congregation. Although there are many adjectives and statements I could use, I realized I repetitively find myself stating “We are a family”! The imagery of family may see very trivial and insignificant to some however, I’ve learned Family is by far one of the strongest institutions one can have in their lives, and the thing many people in the world crave the most.
Last month I received an email from one of our visitors. Although this was their first time visiting our ministry, it was not their first time in a church. They actually spend much time in congregational settings, yet following their visit they felt compelled to email me directly to report on their experience. They stated, “We had a wonderful time at FCC. All of the people were so friendly and that was unexpected with many of them being senior citizens...It was an honor to worship together with them…”.
This statement caused me to go into deep contemplation. I wondered how many other people in the world or right in this community choose to stay away from church because they anticipate encountering unfriendly individuals. My contemplation caused me to reflect on my own personal view of this congregation. I recall turning to my children and stating, “they are the friendliest church people I have ever met” following my first visit.
I have resolved that these are not isolated experiences. We are a genuinely friendly body of believers. The world’s full of people yearning to be in a welcoming environment where they are accepted and loved unconditionally. This month, lets all make an intentional effort to invite others into this space where they can find the family they desire. July 23rd we will be celebrating Family & Friends day, it’s a great opportunity for current, former, and future members to worship together!

Board Update from June 25, 2017
We opened with Prayer given by Pastor D.
Minutes from March 19th were approved.
Property update:
A few shingles were replaced due to high winds. We are looking at needing a new roof
coming sooner than we had expected.
Water in the Girl Scout room was due to the furnace and not the roof.
The exterior of the church needs to be painted
Volunteers are mowing the grass again this year….THANK YOU
Diaconate Update:
New responsibilities like reading scripture seems to be going well.
Communion trays need to be cleaned and put away better.
Elder Update:
Elders are encouraged to reach out to their flock in ways other than just phone calls.
A Shepherd’s list will be in the July Newsletter
Ministry Planning:
July 15 and July 29: will be “Evangelism Saturdays” We will be walking the community
around the church. Pastor D. will be organizing these dates. The idea of Prayer Partners
and or Prayer groups came up. Ministry Planning will be
exploring these ideas at their next meeting.
Aug 12: Community Day / Smore’s Fest. We will have the Blood Bank, a blue grass
band, GS and Cub Scouts and hopefully more. We are requesting that 5th Street be
blocked off so that we have adequate room for everything.
Sept. 17: is a tentative ordination and installation date for Pastor D. who is
actively working with the Region.
Sept. 17: Board meeting
Oct 7-9: is Family Camping, if anyone is interested see Diana
Nov. 19: Board meeting— budget and nominating main topics
Nov. 26: Congregational meeting to vote on budget and church board for 2018 We had great conversation about our future and what that means for all of us. “What are we
going to willfully change? “ What are we doing to actively grow? Great conversations that will be
continued WHILE we carry our existing plan of activities. We have added a lot of programs like
Sunday School and VBS already to work on church growth.
