Pastor’s Ponderings
Now is the time to stand up and say I WILL. Could
you be the answer to the problems you see? Every day
we are faced with the needs of those around us.
Emotional. Physical. Spiritual. What are we to do
about it? Are these problems for our pastor to
address or is there also a way for the church
member to make an impact that will last?....
You can do it. Now is the time to just
stand up and say you will!
-Thom S. Rainer
Dear Family of HOPE, I would like to inform all of you of exciting and faith enriching opportunities coming to HOPE in the next couple of months. Beginning August 14th I will be preaching a sermon series based on the book “I Will” by Thom S. Rainer. During those four weeks I will be speaking on a number of spiritual topics taking us from what it means to be a disciple of Jesus inside the church to what is means to be a disciple outside of the church. My hope is to encourage us to become outwardly focused Christians. In September we will have the privilege to welcome Dan Clites (LCMC Coordinator of New Ministry Development) to HOPE. He will meet with the HOPE council and leaders on Fri-day, Sept. 9th. On Saturday, Sept. 10th, I would like to encourage all members of HOPE to a congregation wide encouragement and training session led by Dan. On Sunday, Sept. 11th, Dan will speak at our 9:30am Worship Service and will lead an adult forum of question and answer during our Discipleship Hour. We will then begin a number of small group meetings that all adult members of HOPE are strongly encouraged to attend. It will be a four-week commitment and study on the topics we will have been looking at in August and September. More details will come later in the month regarding the small groups dates and times. As your pastor and fellow brother in Christ, my hope and prayer is that we continue to grow and mature in our faith as followers and disciples of Jesus Christ and that we take advan-tage of every opportunity that arises to grow deeper in our faith. In His Service, Pastor Scott

The HOPE Choir which previously practiced weekly and sang twice or more a month will now be singing once a month and have some flexibility in their practice schedule creating the opportunity for members of HOPE to provide special music throughout the year. Please contact Karen Mikkelson. Another area of participation is in the area of Worship Assistants. Perhaps you would like to contribute to the delivery of the prayers of the people by writing and reading the prayers or writing prayers that others would read. Or maybe you would like to help with the distribution of Holy Communion as the tray person or the presenter of the host. Please see Rich. Chairperson: Rich Demien W

Two of our biggest Evangelism events are at hand. VBS August 8-12 , “Following Jesus into the Light” and our Block Party Friday, August 12. Please support and pray for these opportunities to meet our neighbors and spread the love of God. As noted in Connections Magazine, John Bradosky writes, “Every act of love, every expression of encouragement and every word that proclaims the Gospel of Jesus Christ makes a difference.” Say “I WILL” to making a difference! BETHECHURCH in our community. Our next meeting will be Monday, August 15 at 7pm. A representative from a local sign company will bring information and suggestions for a permanent sign for HOPE.

Let’s remember to keep all of our students and teachers in our prayers as
they begin a new school year!
The book “The Shack” made me think about how God comes to us where we are and wants us to listen to Him, even if we aren’t ready for Him. It touched me in many ways regarding my own past, my own free will and how God has been there for
me even when I felt undeserving. He has taught me how to be in relationships and show love. My favorite part of living in WA was the mountains and camping, so this book also took me back to those foothills in my mind.—Michelle. “The Shack” is now in our library for you to read. If you have a book to donate to our library, please contact Michelle Willner or Linda Sachs.

Present: George Black, Mark Cassens, Brian Happel, Phylis Hofmeister, Linda Sachs, and Skyler Wiegmann Meeting called to order at 6:35pm. The meeting opened with a review of the introduction to the book “I Will”, by Thom Rainer. Mark provided this book to all council members for review and study. Over the next couple months, council will be discussing how to apply the nine traits of an outwardly focused Christian. Financial Report: Cash flow was very positive with $16,945.55 coming in from building pledges. We made a $10,000 payment on our note, reducing the balance to $67,000. Funds are available to make an additional $10,000 payment this month. Regular Offering was $7,410 and expenses were $6,087.01. The financial report was approved as submitted. Council approved the additional payment of $10,000 toward the note. Ministry Team: The Property Committee suggested that a signature line be added to the Church Usage Policy form. A signature will be required for all church usage. Old Business: The worship and music committee will begin the search to hire a pianist in the coming months. New Business: Mark has purposed an initiative to create small groups within our congregation. Next meeting scheduled for Monday, July 18th at 6:30pm at church. Adjourned with Prayer at 8:07pm.
