WE AC E INS ULTEDSince The Merciad is the pap er of a wom en's col lege,

W e a re insul t ed by the rad io , the m ovies. Ye t hav ewe ever s topped to cons ider tha t the wr i t e r s o f the ne twork women ' s p rograms or " soap operas" mus t th inkus em otional "sops " and intel lectual m idge ts? If theydid not bel ieve this , surely they would not give us suchinane "m ush ." A nd they a re "p re t ty " bad .

I t is not necessary to point out the "awful ly sad"misrepresentat ion of us given by the self ish, sophist icated clothes-horses of thescreen? If we, i f a l l women, were l ike those ofthe mo vies, th e w orld would b e filledwith ev ery kind of neurot ic and m aniac. ^

Less obvious is the insul ti hurledpat us by thewom an ' s magaz ine . W hat r igh t have the ed i to rs ofMademoisel le , Vogue to brand us as beings who have nointerest in l i fe beyond! the c lo thes we wear, the cosmet ics we l ike? And^yet that is the only grounds onwhich they appea l to us .

We a re insu l t ed byAmerican ^entertainment, sa lesorganizat ions on every hand. W e are dragged downevery ime the "Amer ican woman" i s por t rayed in public, appea led to in p r iva te . ?

W e are insul ted and, for the mos t part , unfair ly.Unfor tuna te ly in be ing womanly we d i s l ike o rgan iz ingaga ins t the " lad ies " in the pub l ic eye . W e a re con ten t tol ive our l ives pr ivately while ourcounterparts l ive the i r spub'icly for all to see and be convinced.
