With m ore than half of the1973-1974 basketball season com pleted

the time has come for the M ercy-hurs tCollege'basketball team tobegin their run for Kansas City. The Lakers thwarted in theirbid{or an unprecedented e ighthstraight victory by Steubenvillenow|come|to the point whereevery victory is ofutmost.-importance, I

The Barons dealt Mercyhurst a55-54 overtime loss last Saturdayon their* home floor, Down bytwelve points at one tim e* the'Hurst fought back and for a fewmom ents held a two point lead inthe overtime session. The Lakersnow showan 8-5 Uon loss slate.2

Ten games remain onthisseason's slate. The game againstShaw College has officially beencancelled, so the best the Lakers

can do is18-5. Th is will definitelyget them a spot inNAIA postseason District 18 fplay offs. However, the pressure will be onin each of these contests. Theycannotafford morethan one loss.y As Ifsee MM 17-6 record couldget us into the play offs. The biggame of course, will be Edinboro. They will be ranked number onein the districtno matter if we bea tthem on not.Alvictory againstEdinboro vould almost insureMercyhurst of receiving a bid, providingwe don't get dumped byWalsh,FLock jHave iv Benrend, etc. Twcmore losses and schoolsout ; waitftill next year..Even ifwe lose to Edinborowe are takingour chances since both Fredoniaand Point Park own victories overus . They are both in the District

and currently have better recordsthan the 'Hurst. There are other

schools still in contention for apost-season NAIA - b e r t h .Clarion State,Geneva,Frostburgand Waynesburg all have veryrespec tab le r eco rds .jManypeople will tell you that there aremore goodbasketbal l !teams inthe District this year than in anyprevious one. i The competitionwill be very difficult? for|Mer-cyhurst and it will be an uphillbattle all the wayto Kansas City.

    ODDS'N ENDSThe Miami Dolphins certainly

proved they are the best footballteam in the world. They made amockery of Super Bowl VIII bvpounding Minnesota 14-7.I feelthey are threateningt the oldPacker and Brown teams fortheir claim as the best football

team in.history,fWithout anymajor*, shake-ups, the Dolphinscould conceivable w in Super BowlIX and X.

The basketball team will playhost to HWalshCollege tomorrownight at Tech Memorial. TheCavaliers are currently 7-10 forthe season. The Lakers will attempt to rebound from their lossto Steubenville and get on theright roadto K.C.
