Note from the AuthorDuring my time studying in the Holy Land, I became fascinated by the techniques that have been used to memorize Scripture over the ages. I learned that at the 1,700-year-old Eastern Orthodox monastery of Mar Saba, monks with little contact with the outside world or modern conveniences tell of young boys who routinely memorize 150 psalms.

In a study in the 1917 edition of the Psychological Review, a group of Jewish mnemonists (people highly skilled in feats of memory) demonstrated how they memorized to the point of knowing the placement of words on each of the 5,000 pages that contained the 12 books of the Babylonian Talmud. Witnesses described a challenge using a pin put through the Scripture to a specific page and place to test the mnemonists memory.

A pin would be placed on a word, let us say, the fourth word in line eight; the memory sharp would then be asked what word is in the same spot on page thirty-eight or page fifty or any other page; the pin would be pressed through the volume until it reached page thirty eight or page fifty or any other page designated; the memory sharp would then mention the word and it was found invariably correct. He had visualized in his brain the whole Talmud; in other words, the pages of the Talmud were photographed on his brain. It was one of the most stupendous feats of memory I have ever witnessed and there was no fake about it.1

I hope you enjoy your experiences in memorizing Scripture — and that you find The Memorization Study Bible a powerful resource for your efforts.

Memorization Matters!“I know of no other single practice in the Christian life more rewarding, practically speaking, than memorizing Scripture. That’s right. No other single discipline is more useful and rewarding than this. No other single exercise pays greater spiritual dividends! Your prayer life will be strengthened. Your witnessing will be sharper and much more effective. Your attitudes and outlook will begin to change. Your mind will become alert and observant. Your confidence and assurance will be enhanced. Your faith will be solidified.” — Charles R. Swindoll1

“Begin reading, studying and memorizing Scripture as never before. . . . Read it, assimilate it, feed on it; let it be your staff and strength. It is quick and powerful. It is the bulwark of the soul. . . . Store these Scriptures away so that if your Bible is ever taken from you, you will have the Word of God written on the tablet of your heart.” — the late Rev. Billy Graham2

“When we memorize Scripture, we make that connection between the Bible, our mind, and our heart more constant, more deep, and more transforming. I’ll venture this: Realistically, nothing can replace it. Nothing can replace Bible memory in doing what it was designed to do — forging a connection between the word, the head, and the heart.” — John Piper3

“Scripture memorization, which has been an incalculable blessing in my own Christian life, is almost a lost art these days . . . the musical phrasing in the King James makes it easier to memorize than the more ponderous English of the modern versions.” — Dr. Henry Morris4

“Gather the riches of God’s promises. Nobody can take away from you those texts from the Bible which you have learned by heart.” — Corrie Ten Boom5

A Word of Encouragement

This memory edition of the Bible had its origin in my increasing conviction (from many years of memorizing the Scriptures as a student, lecturer, and now professor) that all of the many excellent and useful editions of the Scriptures left much to be desired in regard to fostering memorization of the Word of God.

I have endeavored to share my own technique of memorization on the pages of this New Testament study Bible with the purpose of facilitating memorization through the power of format combined with an original technique of using the number of words in each verse to aid in memorization. This method has helped me to memorize 20 complete books of the Bible to date.

The Memorization Method 1. When utilizing this book, the memorizer is advised to deal with one

verse at a time.

2. Write out the entire verse longhand in the same format this book uses and speak it while you write it. That way your mind, eye, hand, mouth, and ear are all working together in unison.

a. While writing the verse in the provided format, you may notice that there are no more than eight words per line, called an eye’s glance by ancient memorizers. This essential brevity of each line allows you to retain the short series of words in your short-term memory.

b. The number of words are indicated in each line’s right-hand column. These numbers function as a temporary memory crutch as you repeatedly write out each line of your verse. Once you have memorized the verse, you won’t need the reminder of numbered words in each phrase.

c. Each line or phrase is arranged to start with a conjunction if possible. To neatly line up the ands, buts, etc. gives a sense of uniformity to the verse and makes it easier to memorize.

3. Write each verse over and over until you have it completely memorized. Speaking the verse aloud is the number one aid from antiquity and today for memory retention. You must orally repeat the memorized Word aloud over and over again to settle it deep into your heart.

4. Once you have memorized a verse, use the same technique to learn the next one. This book includes some suggested “starting points” in the appendices.

Why It Can Make a DifferenceBe encouraged friends; this is not always easy, but you can do it! Using this technique of memorization has enabled me to hide God’s Word in my heart, to know God intimately through His Word, to share His Word with others, and to live a victorious Christian life.

Due to my research, I believe many people have ceased to recognize one of the main purposes for which Scripture has been given to mankind. That purpose is given in Joshua 1:8: “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

The Soldier of God in Ephesians 6 has but one spiritual weapon listed: “the Sword of the Spirit which is the [spoken] Word of God.” But can you use this sword if you are unfamiliar with it? Though it may be unpleasant to dwell on such truths — that most Christians do not hide God’s Word in their heart — and if Christians wonder why they are so overcome on the battlefield of life, they might consider taking a sword with them next time.

The journey we will take through this Memorization Study Bible will clearly emphasize the necessity of memorizing the Bible. For thousands of years the memorized Word has been the faithful companion of man and has helped him lay the foundations for spiritual progress.

The Process

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

The Memorization Study Bible is uniquely designed to help you learn Scripture — either specific verses, chapters, or even entire books of the Bible:

1 Choose a verse.2 Read the verse out loud . . .3 . . . as you write it on paper.4 Repeat this process until you have the verse memorized.5 Choose your next verse!

26 And they were astonished out of measure, 7saying among themselves, 3Who then can be saved? 527 And Jesus looking upon them saith, 6With men it is impossible, 5but not with God: 4for with God all things are possible. 728 Then Peter began to say unto him, 7Lo, 1we have left all, 4and have followed thee. 429 And Jesus answered 3and said, 2Verily I say unto you, 5There is no man that hath left house, 8or brethren, 2or sisters, 2or father, 2or mother, 2or wife, 2or children, 2or lands, 2for my sake, 3and the gospel’s, 330 But he shall receive 4an hundred 100fold 1now in this time, 4

Simple Science of Memorization —You Can Do This!

1. When your brain makes a memory, it makes two copies — one is for now and the other for later — short-term and long-term memories. The short-term memory is made in the hippocampus; long-term memory is in the cortex.1

2. Memories need to be encoded, and it starts with paying attention to what you want to remember. Then a complex series of signals are formed from our senses — sight, sound, smell, and touch. These are all associated with the memory encoded.2

3. Our short-term memory, also called our working memory,3 can only remember around seven things at a time.4 In psychology, it is known as The Magical Number Seven, Plus or Minus Two. My memorization technique’s limit of 8 words per line of verse falls within that formula.

4. Leverage your sight and sound in making a lasting memory.5 Retaining words better by saying them aloud has been called the production effect by researchers.6

5. Repetition in writing also helps with memory retention.7

MATTHEW Matthew emphasizes how Jesus fulfills Old Testament prophecies:

28 chapters & 1,071 verses Uses over 130 references to the Old Testament

Written by the Apostle Matthew for Jewish readers

Only Gospel book to include the phrase “that which was spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled”

Probably written between a.d. 50–70.

Refers to Jesus as the “Son of David” far more than the other Gospels

Unknown where written When we set ourselves apart from sin

One of the 3 synoptic Gospels

Matthew was a tax collector.

He is sometimes referred to as Levi in other Gospels.

Includes the Sermon on the Mount and the Beatitudes

“The subject of this book, and indeed of all the writings of the New Testament, is the Gospel. The Greek word signifies a joyful message, good news, glad tidings of good things; such as Christ was anointed to preach, the Angels brought to the shepherds, and the Evangelists, Apostles, and Ministers of Christ published to the world.”John Gill, “Introduction to Matthew,” The Scofield Reference Bible (Amazon Digital Services, 2012), n.p.

“[W]hatever the pretences of tradition may be, it is not sufficient to preserve things with any certainty, as appears by experience. For, whereas Christ said and did many memorable things, which were not written (John 20:30; 21:25), tradition has not preserved any one of them to us, but all is lost except what was written; that therefore is what we must abide by; and blessed by God that we have it to abide by; it is the sure word of history.”Matthew Henry, Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible, Vol. V, “Matthew — Introduction,” on the importance of

the Gospels, Bible Gateway, https://www.biblegateway.com/resources/matthew-henry/Matthew, accessed April 2, 2018.

“The prominent character of Christ in Matthew is that of the covenanted King, David’s ‘righteous Branch’ [Jeremiah 23:5; 33:15].”

saying, 1Joseph, 1thou son of David, 4fear not to take unto thee 6Mary thy wife: 3for that which is conceived in her 7is of the Holy Ghost. 521And she shall bring forth a son, 7and thou shalt call his name JESUS: 7for he shall save his people 6from their sins. 322Now all this was done, 5that it might be fulfilled 5which was spoken of the Lord 6by the prophet, 3saying, 123Behold, 1a virgin shall be with child, 6and shall bring forth a son, 6and they shall call his name Emmanuel, 7which being interpreted is, 4God with us. 324Then Joseph being raised from sleep 6did as the angel of the Lord 7had bidden him, 3and took unto him his wife: 625And knew her not 4till she had brought forth her firstborn son: 8and he called his name JESUS. 6

21Now when Jesus was born 5in Bethlehem of Judaea 4in the days of Herod the king, 7

behold, 1there came wise men from the east 7to Jerusalem, 22Saying, 1Where is he that is born 6King of the Jews? 4for we have seen his star 6in the east, 3and are come to worship him. 63When Herod the king 4had heard these things, 4he was troubled, 3and all Jerusalem with him. 54And when he had gathered 5all the chief priests 4and scribes of the people together, 6he demanded of them 4

where Christ should be born. 55And they said unto him, 5In Bethlehem of Judaea: 4for thus it is written by the prophet, 86And thou Bethlehem, 3in the land of Judah, 5art not the least 4among the princes of Judah: 5for out of thee shall come a Governor, 8that shall rule my people Israel. 67Then Herod, 2when he had privily called the wise men, 8inquired of them diligently 4what time the star appeared. 58And he sent them to Bethlehem, 6and said, 2Go 1and search diligently for the young child; 7and when ye have found him, 6bring me word again, 4that I may come 4and worship him also. 49When they had heard the king, 6they departed; 2and, 1lo, 1the star, 2which they saw in the east, 6went before them, 3till it came 3and stood over where the young child was. 810When they saw the star, 5they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 611And when they were come into the house, 8they saw the young child 5with Mary his mother, 4and fell down, 3and worshipped him: 3and when they had opened their treasures, 7they presented unto him gifts; 5gold, 1and frankincense, 2and myrrh. 212And being warned of God in a dream 8that they should not return to Herod, 7they departed into their own country another way. 813And when they were departed, 5behold, 1

the angel of the Lord 5appeareth to Joseph in a dream, 6saying, 1Arise, 1and take the young child 5and his mother, 3and flee into Egypt, 4and be thou there 4until I bring thee word: 5for Herod will seek the young child 7to destroy him. 314When he arose, 3he took the young child 5and his mother by night, 5and departed into Egypt: 415And was there until the death of Herod: 8that it might be fulfilled 5which was spoken of the Lord 6by the prophet, 3saying, 1Out of Egypt have I called my son. 816Then Herod, 2when he saw that he was mocked 7of the wise men, 4was exceeding wroth, 3and sent forth, 3and slew all the children 5that were in Bethlehem, 4and in all the coasts thereof, 6from two years old 4and under, 2according to the time 4which he had diligently inquired 5of the wise men. 417Then was fulfilled that which was spoken 7by Jeremy the prophet, 4saying, 118In Rama was there a voice heard, 7lamentation, 1and weeping, 2and great mourning, 3Rachel weeping for her children, 5and would not be comforted, 5because they are not. 419But when Herod was dead, 5behold, 1an angel of the Lord 5appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, 820Saying, 1Arise, 1

and take the young child 5and his mother, 3and go into the land of Israel: 7for they are dead 4which sought the young child’s life. 621And he arose, 3and took the young child 5and his mother, 3and came into the land of Israel. 722But when he heard 4that Archelaus did reign in Judaea 6in the room of his father Herod, 7he was afraid to go thither: 6notwithstanding, 1being warned of God in a dream, 7he turned aside into the parts of Galilee: 823And he came 3and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: 7that it might be fulfilled 5which was spoken by the prophets, 6He shall be called a Nazarene. 6

31In those days came John the Baptist, 7preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, 62And saying, 2

Repent ye: 2for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 83For this is he 4that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, 8saying, 1The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 8Prepare ye the way of the Lord, 7make his paths straight. 44And the same John 4had his raiment of camel’s hair, 6and a leathern girdle about his loins; 7and his meat was locusts 5and wild honey. 35Then went out to him Jerusalem, 6and all Judaea, 3and all the region round about Jordan, 76And were baptized of him in Jordan, 7confessing their sins. 37But when he saw many of the Pharisees 8and Sadducees come to his baptism, 6he said unto them, 4O generation of vipers, 4who hath warned you to flee 6from the wrath to come? 5

8Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: 79And think not to say within yourselves, 7We have Abraham to our father: 6for I say unto you, 5that God is able of these stones 7to raise up children unto Abraham. 610And now also 3the axe is laid unto 5the root of the trees: 5therefore 1every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit 8is hewn down, 3and cast into the fire. 511I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: 8but he that cometh after me 6is mightier than I, 4whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: 8he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, 8and with fire: 312Whose fan is in his hand, 6and he will throughly purge his floor, 7and gather his wheat into the garner; 7but he will burn up the chaff 7with unquenchable fire. 313Then cometh Jesus from Galilee 5to Jordan unto John, 4to be baptized of him. 514But John forbad him, 4saying, 1I have need to be baptized of thee, 8and comest thou to me? 515And Jesus answering said unto him, 6Suffer it to be so now: 6for thus it becometh us 5to fulfill all righteousness. 4Then he suffered him. 416And Jesus, 2when he was baptized, 4went up straightway out of the water: 7and, 1lo, 1the heavens were opened unto him, 6and he saw the Spirit of God 7descending like a dove, 4and lighting upon him: 417And lo a voice from heaven, 6saying, 1

This is my beloved Son, 5in whom I am well pleased. 6

41Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit 8into the wilderness 3to be tempted of the devil. 6

2And when he had fasted 5forty 40days 1and 1forty 40nights, 1he was afterward an hungred. 53And when the tempter came to him, 7he said, 2If thou be the Son of God, 7command that these stones be made bread. 74But he answered 3and said, 2It is written, 3Man shall not live by bread alone, 7but by every word that proceedeth 6out of the mouth of God. 65Then the devil taketh him up 6into the holy city, 4and setteth him on a pinnacle 6of the temple, 36And saith unto him, 4If thou be the Son of God, 7cast thyself down: 3for it is written, 4He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: 8and in their hands 4they shall bear thee up, 5lest at any time 4thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by

bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the

mouth of God.

7Jesus said unto him, 4It is written again, 4Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 88Again, 1the devil taketh him up 5into an exceeding high mountain, 5and sheweth him 3all the kingdoms of the world, 6and the glory of them; 59And saith unto him, 4All these things will I give thee, 7if thou wilt fall down 5and worship me. 310Then saith Jesus unto him, 5Get thee hence, 3Satan: 1for it is written, 4Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, 7and him only shalt thou serve. 611Then the devil leaveth him, 5and, 1behold, 1angels came 2and ministered unto him. 412Now when Jesus had heard 5that John was cast into prison, 6he departed into Galilee; 413And leaving Nazareth, 3he came 2and dwelt in Capernaum, 4which is upon the sea coast, 6in the borders of Zabulon 5and Nephthalim: 214That it might be fulfilled 5which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, 7saying, 115The land of Zabulon, 4and the land of Nephthalim, 5by the way of the sea, 6beyond Jordan, 2 Galilee of the Gentiles; 416The people which sat in darkness 6saw great light; 3and to them which sat in the region 8and shadow of death light is sprung up. 817From that time Jesus began to preach, 7and to say, 3Repent: 1for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 818And Jesus, 2

walking by the sea of Galilee, 6saw two brethren, 3Simon called Peter, 3and Andrew his brother, 4casting a net into the sea: 6for they were fishers. 419And he saith unto them, 5Follow me, 2and I will make you fishers of men. 820And they straightway left their nets, 6and followed him. 321And going on from thence, 5he saw other two brethren, 5James the son of Zebedee, 5and John his brother, 4in a ship with Zebedee their father, 7mending their nets; 3and he called them. 422And they immediately left the ship 6and their father, 3and followed him. 323And Jesus went about all Galilee, 6teaching in their synagogues, 4and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, 7and healing all manner of sickness 6and all manner of disease among the people. 824And his fame went throughout all Syria: 7and they brought unto him all sick people 8that were taken with divers diseases 6and torments, 2and those which were possessed with devils, 7and those which were lunatick, 5and those that had the palsy; 6and he healed them. 425And there followed him 4great multitudes of people from Galilee, 6and from Decapolis, 3and from Jerusalem, 3and from Judaea, 3and from beyond Jordan. 4

51And seeing the multitudes, 4he went up into a mountain: 6and when he was set, 5

his disciples came unto him: 52And he opened his mouth, 5and taught them, 3saying, 13Blessed are the poor in spirit: 6for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 7

4Blessed are they that mourn: 5for they shall be comforted. 55Blessed are the meek: 4for they shall inherit the earth. 66Blessed are they which do hunger 6and thirst after righteousness: 4for they shall be filled. 57Blessed are the merciful: 4for they shall obtain mercy. 58Blessed are the pure in heart: 6for they shall see God. 59Blessed are the peacemakers: 4for they shall be called 5the children of God. 410Blessed are they which are persecuted 6for righteousness’ sake: 3for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 711Blessed are ye, 3when men shall revile you, 5and persecute you, 3and shall say all manner of evil 7against you falsely, 3for my sake. 312Rejoice, 1and be exceeding glad: 4for great is your reward in heaven: 7for so persecuted they the prophets 6which were before you. 413Ye are the salt of the earth: 7but if the salt have lost his savour, 8wherewith shall it be salted? 5it is thenceforth good for nothing, 6but to be cast out, 5and to be trodden under foot of men. 814Ye are the light of the world. 7A city that is set on an hill 8cannot be hid. 3

15Neither do men light a candle, 6and put it under a bushel, 6but on a candlestick; 4and it giveth light unto all 6that are in the house. 516Let your light so shine before men, 7that they may see your good works, 7and glorify your Father which is in heaven. 817Think not that I am come 6to destroy the law, 4or the prophets: 3I am not come to destroy, 6but to fulfill. 318For verily I say unto you, 6Till heaven 2and earth pass, 3one jot or one tittle 5shall in no wise pass from the law, 8till all be fulfilled. 419Whosoever therefore 2shall break one of these least commandments, 7and shall teach men so, 5he shall be called the least 6in the kingdom of heaven: 5but whosoever shall do 4and teach them, 3the same shall be called great 6in the kingdom of heaven. 520For I say unto you, 5That except your righteousness 4shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes 7and Pharisees, 2ye shall in no case 5enter into the kingdom of heaven. 621Ye have heard that it was said 7by them of old time, 5Thou shalt not kill; 4and whosoever shall kill 4shall be in danger of the judgment: 722But I say unto you, 5That whosoever is angry with his brother 7without a cause 3shall be in danger of the judgment: 7and whosoever shall say to his brother, 7Raca, 1shall be in danger of the council: 7but whosoever shall say, 4Thou fool, 2shall be in danger of hell fire. 723Therefore 1

if thou bring thy gift to the altar, 8and there rememberest that thy brother 6hath ought against thee; 424Leave there thy gift before the altar, 7and go thy way; 4first be reconciled to thy brother, 6and then come and offer thy gift. 725Agree with thine adversary quickly, 5whiles thou art in the way with him; 8lest at any time 4the adversary deliver thee to the judge, 7and the judge deliver thee to the officer, 8and thou be cast into prison. 626Verily I say unto thee, 5Thou shalt by no means come out thence, 8till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing. 727Ye have heard that it was said 7by them of old time, 5Thou shalt not commit adultery: 528But I say unto you, 5That whosoever looketh on a woman 6to lust after her 4hath committed adultery with her 5already in his heart. 429And if thy right eye offend thee, 7pluck it out, 3and cast it from thee: 5for it is profitable for thee 6that one of thy members should perish, 7and not that thy whole body 6should be cast into hell. 530And if thy right hand offend thee, 7cut if off, 3and cast it from thee: 5for it is profitable for thee 6that one of thy members should perish, 7and not that thy whole body 6should be cast into hell. 531It hath been said, 4Whosoever shall put away his wife, 6let him give her a writing of divorcement: 832But I say unto you, 5That whosoever shall put away his wife, 7saving for the cause of fornication, 6causeth her to commit adultery: 5and whosoever shall marry her 5that is divorced committeth adultery. 533Again, 1ye have heard that it hath been said 8by them of old time, 5

Thou shalt not forswear thyself, 5but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: 834But I say unto you, 5Swear not at all; 4neither by heaven; 3for it is God’s throne: 535Nor by the earth; 4for it is his footstool: 5neither by Jerusalem; 3for it is the city 5of the great King. 436Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, 7because thou canst not make 5one hair white or black. 537But let your communication be, 5Yea, 1yea; 1Nay, 1nay: 1for whatsoever is more than these 6cometh of evil. 338Ye have heard that it hath been said, 8An eye for an eye, 5and a tooth for a tooth: 639But I say unto you, 5That ye resist not evil: 5but whosoever shall smite thee 5on thy right cheek, 4turn to him the other also. 640And if any man 4will sue thee at the law, 6and take away thy coat, 5let him have thy cloke also. 641And whosoever shall compel thee 5to go a mile, 4go with him twain. 442Give to him that asketh thee, 6

Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that

would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

and from him that would borrow of thee 8turn not thou away. 443Ye have heard that it hath been said, 8Thou shalt love thy neighbour, 5and hate thine enemy. 444But I say unto you, 5Love your enemies, 3bless them that curse you, 5do good to them that hate you, 7and pray for them which despitefully use you, 8and persecute you; 345That ye may be 4the children of your Father 5which is in heaven: 4for he maketh his sun to rise 7on the evil 3and on the good, 4and sendeth rain on the just 6and on the unjust. 446For if ye love them which love you, 8what reward have ye? 4do not even the publicans the same? 747And if ye salute your brethren only, 7what do ye more than others? 6do not even the publicans so? 648Be ye therefore perfect, 4even as your Father 4which is in heaven is perfect. 6

61Take heed that ye do not 6your alms before men, 4to be seen of them: 5

otherwise ye have no reward 5of your Father which is in heaven. 72Therefore 1when thou doest thine alms, 5do not sound a trumpet before thee, 7as the hypocrites do in the synagogues 7and in the streets, 4that they may have glory of men. 7Verily I say unto you, 5They have their reward. 43But when thou doest alms, 5let not thy left hand 5know what thy right hand doeth: 64That thine alms may be in secret: 7and thy Father which seeth in secret 7himself shall reward thee openly. 55And when thou prayest, 4thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: 8

for they love to pray 5standing in the synagogues 4and in the corners of the streets, 7that they may be seen of men. 7Verily I say unto you, 5They have their reward. 46But thou, 2when thou prayest, 3enter into thy closet, 4and when thou hast shut thy door, 7pray to thy Father which is in secret; 8and thy Father which seeth in secret 7shall reward thee openly. 47But when ye pray, 4use not vain repetitions, 4as the heathen do: 4for they think that they shall be heard 8for their much speaking. 48Be not ye therefore 4like unto them: 3for your Father knoweth 4what things ye have need of, 6before ye ask him. 49After this manner therefore pray ye: 6Our Father which art in heaven, 6Hallowed be thy name. 410Thy kingdom come. 3Thy will be done in earth, 6as it is in heaven. 511Give us this day our daily bread. 712And forgive us our debts, 5as we forgive our debtors. 513And lead us not into temptation, 6but deliver us from evil: 5For thine is the kingdom, 5and the power, 3and the glory, 3forever. 1Amen. 114For if ye forgive men their trespasses, 7your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 715But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, 8neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. 716Moreover 1when ye fast, 3be not, 2as the hypocrites, 3of a sad countenance: 4for they disfigure their faces, 5

that they may appear unto men to fast. 8Verily I say unto you, 5They have their reward. 417But thou, 2when thou fastest, 3anoint thine head, 3and wash thy face; 418That thou appear not unto men to fast, 8but unto thy Father which is in secret: 8and thy Father, 3which seeth in secret, 4shall reward thee openly. 419Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, 8where moth 2and rust doth corrupt, 4and where thieves break through 5and steal: 220But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, 8where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, 7and where thieves 3do not break through nor steal: 621For where your treasure is, 5there will your heart be also. 622The light of the body is the eye: 8if therefore thine eye be single, 6thy whole body shall be full of light. 823But if thine eye be evil, 6thy whole body shall be full of darkness. 8If therefore the light 4that is in thee be darkness, 6how great is that darkness! 524No man can serve two masters: 6for either he will hate the one, 7and love the other; 4or else he will hold to the one, 8and despise the other. 4Ye cannot serve God 4and mammon. 225Therefore 1I say unto you, 4Take no thought for your life, 6what ye shall eat, 4or what ye shall drink; 5nor yet for your body, 5what ye shall put on. 5Is not the life more than meat, 7and the body than raiment? 526Behold 1

the fowls of the air: 5for they sow not, 4neither do they reap, 4nor gather into barns; 4yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. 6Are ye not much better than they? 727Which of you by taking thought 6can add one cubit unto his stature? 728And why take ye thought for raiment? 7Consider the lilies of the field, 6how they grow; 3they toil not, 3neither do they spin: 429And yet I say unto you, 6That even Solomon in all his glory 7was not arrayed like one of these. 730Wherefore, 1if God so clothe 4the grass of the field, 5which today is, 3and tomorrow is cast into the oven, 7shall he not much more clothe you, 7O ye of little faith? 531Therefore 1take no thought, 3saying, 1What shall we eat? 4or, 1What shall we drink? 4or, 1Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 532(For after all these things 5do the Gentiles seek:) 4for your heavenly Father knoweth 5that ye have need of all these things. 833But seek ye first the kingdom of God, 8and his righteousness; 3

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness: and all these things shall be

added unto you.

and all these things 4shall be added unto you. 534Take therefore 2no thought for the morrow: 5for the morrow shall take thought 6for the things of itself. 5Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. 8

71Judge not, 2that ye be not judged. 52For with what judgment ye judge, 6

ye shall be judged: 4and with what measure ye mete, 6it shall be measured to you again. 73And why beholdest thou the mote 6that is in thy brother’s eye, 6but considerest not the beam 5that is in thine own eye? 64Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, 8Let me pull out the mote 6out of thine eye; 4and, 1behold, 1a beam is in thine own eye? 75Thou hypocrite, 2first cast out the beam 5out of thine own eye; 5and then shalt thou see clearly 6to cast out the mote 5out of thy brother’s eye. 56Give not that which is holy 6unto the dogs, 3neither cast ye your pearls before swine, 7lest they trample them under their feet, 7and turn again 3and rend you. 37Ask, 1and it shall be given you; 6seek, 1and ye shall find; 4knock, 1and it shall be opened unto you: 78For every one that asketh receiveth; 6and he that seeketh findeth; 5and to him that knocketh 5it shall be opened. 49Or what man is there of you, 7whom if his son ask bread, 6will he give him a stone? 610Or if he ask a fish, 6

will he give him a serpent? 611If ye then, 3being evil, 2know how to give good gifts 6unto your children, 3how much more shall your Father 6which is in heaven 4give good things to them that ask him? 812Therefore 1all things whatsoever ye would 5that men should do to you, 6do ye even so to them: 6for this is the law 5and the prophets. 313Enter ye in at the strait gate: 7for wide is the gate, 5and broad is the way, 5that leadeth to destruction, 4and many there be which go in thereat: 814Because strait is the gate, 5and narrow is the way, 5which leadeth unto life, 4and few there be that find it. 715Beware of false prophets, 4which come to you in sheep’s clothing, 7but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 616Ye shall know them by their fruits. 7Do men gather grapes of thorns, 6or figs of thistles? 417Even so every good tree 5bringeth forth good fruit; 4but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 818A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, 8neither can a corrupt tree 5bring forth good fruit. 419Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit 8is hewn down, 3and cast into the fire. 520Wherefore 1by their fruits ye shall know them. 721Not everyone that saith unto me, 6Lord, 1Lord, 1shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; 7but he that doeth 4the will of my Father 5which is in heaven. 422Many will say to me in that day, 8Lord, 1

Lord, 1have we not prophesied in thy name? 7and in thy name have cast out devils? 8and in thy name done many wonderful works? 823And then will I profess unto them, 7I never knew you: 4depart from me, 3ye that work iniquity. 424Therefore 1whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, 6and doeth them, 3I will liken him unto a wise man, 8which built his house upon a rock: 725And the rain descended, 4and the floods came, 4and the winds blew, 4and beat upon that house; 5and it fell not: 4for it was founded upon a rock. 726And every one that heareth 5these sayings of mine, 4and doeth them not, 4shall be likened unto a foolish man, 7which built his house upon the sand: 727And the rain descended, 4and the floods came, 4and the winds blew, 4and beat upon that house; 5and it fell: 3and great was the fall of it. 728And it came to pass, 5when Jesus had ended these sayings, 6the people were astonished at his doctrine: 729For he taught them as one having authority, 8and not as the scribes. 5

81When he was come down from the mountain, 8great multitudes followed him. 4

2And, 1behold, 1there came a leper 4and worshipped him, 3saying, 1Lord, 1if thou wilt, 3thou canst make me clean. 53And Jesus put forth his hand, 6and touched him, 3

saying, 1I will; 2be thou clean. 3And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 64And Jesus saith unto him, 5See thou tell no man; 5but go thy way, 4shew thyself to the priest, 5and offer the gift that Moses commanded, 7for a testimony unto them. 55And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, 7there came unto him a centurion, 6beseeching him, 26And saying, 2Lord, 1my servant lieth at home 5sick of the palsy, 4grievously tormented. 27And Jesus saith unto him, 5I will come 3and heal him. 38The centurion answered 3and said, 2Lord, 1I am not worthy 4that thou shouldest come under my roof: 7but speak the word only, 5and my servant shall be healed. 69For I am a man under authority, 7having soldiers under me: 4and I say to this man, 6Go, 1and he goeth; 3and to another, 3Come, 1and he cometh; 3and to my servant, 4Do this, 2and he doeth it. 410When Jesus heard it, 4he marvelled, 2and said to them that followed, 6Verily I say unto you, 5I have not found so great faith, 7no, 1not in Israel. 311And I say unto you, 5That many shall come from the east 7and west, 2

and shall sit down with Abraham, 6and Isaac, 2and Jacob, 2in the kingdom of heaven. 512But the children of the kingdom 6shall be cast out into outer darkness: 7there shall be weeping 4and gnashing of teeth. 413And Jesus said unto the centurion, 6Go thy way; 3and as thou hast believed, 5so be it done unto thee. 6And his servant was healed 5in the selfsame hour. 414And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, 8he saw his wife’s mother laid, 6and sick of a fever. 515And he touched her hand, 5and the fever left her: 5and she arose, 3and ministered unto them. 416When the even was come, 5they brought unto him many 5that were possessed with devils: 5and he cast out the spirits 6with his word, 3and healed all that were sick: 617That it might be fulfilled 5which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, 7saying, 1Himself took our infirmities, 4and bare our sicknesses. 418Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, 8he gave commandment 3to depart unto the other side. 619And a certain scribe came, 5and said unto him, 4Master, 1I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. 720And Jesus saith unto him, 5The foxes have holes, 4and the birds of the air have nests; 8but the Son of man 5hath not where to lay his head. 721And another of his disciples said unto him, 8Lord, 1suffer me first to go 5

and bury my father. 422But Jesus said unto him, 5Follow me; 2and let the dead bury their dead. 723And when he was entered into a ship, 8his disciples followed him. 424And, 1behold, 1there arose a great tempest in the sea, 8insomuch that the ship 4was covered with the waves: 5but he was asleep. 425And his disciples came to him, 6and awoke him, 3saying, 1Lord, 1save us: 2we perish. 226And he saith unto them, 5Why are ye fearful, 4O ye of little faith? 5Then he arose, 3and rebuked the winds 4and the sea; 3and there was a great calm. 627But the men marvelled, 4saying, 1What manner of man is this, 6that even the winds 4and the sea obey him! 528And when he was come 5to the other side 4into the country of the Gergesenes, 6there met him two possessed with devils, 7coming out of the tombs, 5exceeding fierce, 2so that no man 4might pass by that way. 529And, 1behold, 1they cried out, 3saying, 1What have we to do with thee, 7Jesus, 1thou Son of God? 4art thou come hither 4to torment us before the time? 630And there was a good way 6off from them an herd 5of many swine feeding. 4

31So the devils besought him, 5saying, 1If thou cast us out, 5suffer us to go away 5into the herd of swine. 532And he said unto them, 5Go. 1And when they were come out, 6they went into the herd of swine: 7and, 1behold, 1the whole herd of swine ran violently down 8a steep place into the sea, 6and perished in the waters. 533And they that kept them fled, 6and went their ways into the city, 7and told everything, 3and what was befallen 4to the possessed of the devils. 634And, 1behold, 1the whole city came out to meet Jesus: 8and when they saw him, 5they besought him 3that he would depart out of their coasts. 8

91And he entered into a ship, 6and passed over, 3and came into his own city. 6

2And, 1behold, 1they brought to him 4a man sick of the palsy, 6lying on a bed: 4and Jesus seeing their faith 5said unto the sick of the palsy; 7Son, 1be of good cheer; 4thy sins be forgiven thee. 53And, 1behold, 1certain of the scribes said within themselves, 7This man blasphemeth. 34And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, 6Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? 75For whether is easier, 4to say, 2Thy sins be forgiven thee; 5or to say, 3Arise, 1

and walk? 26But that ye may know 5that the Son of man 5hath power on earth to forgive sins, 7(then saith he 3to the sick of the palsy,) 6Arise, 1take up thy bed, 4and go unto thine house. 57And he arose, 3and departed to his house. 58But when the multitudes saw it, 6they marvelled, 2and glorified God, 3which had given such power unto men. 79And as Jesus passed forth from thence, 7he saw a man, 4named Matthew, 2sitting at the receipt of custom: 6and he saith unto him, 5Follow me. 2And he arose, 3and followed him. 310And it came to pass, 5as Jesus sat at meat in the house, 8behold, 1many publicans 2and sinners came 3and sat down with him 5and his disciples. 311And when the Pharisees saw it, 6they said unto his disciples, 5Why eateth your Master with publicans 6and sinners? 212But when Jesus heard that, 5he said unto them, 4They that be whole need not a physician, 8but they that are sick. 513But go ye 3and learn what that meaneth, 5I will have mercy, 4and not sacrifice: 3for I am not come 5to call the righteous, 4but sinners to repentance. 414Then came to him the disciples of John, 8saying, 1Why do we 3and the Pharisees fast oft, 5but thy disciples fast not? 5

15And Jesus said unto them, 5Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, 7as long as the bridegroom is with them? 8but the days will come, 5when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, 8and then shall they fast. 516No man putteth a piece of new cloth 8unto an old garment, 4for that which is put in 6to fill it up taketh from the garment, 8and the rent is made worse. 617Neither do men put new wine 6into old bottles: 3else the bottles break, 4and the wine runneth out, 5and the bottles perish: 4but they put new wine into new bottles, 8and both are preserved. 418While he spake these things unto them, 7behold, 1there came a certain ruler, 5and worshipped him, 3saying, 1My daughter is even now dead: 6but come 2and lay thy hand upon her, 6and she shall live. 419And Jesus arose, 3and followed him, 3and so did his disciples. 520And, 1behold, 1a woman, 2which was diseased 3with an issue of blood 5twelve 12years, 1came behind him, 3and touched the hem of his garment: 721For she said within herself, 5If I may but touch his garment, 7I shall be whole. 422But Jesus turned him about, 5and when he saw her, 5he said, 2Daughter, 1be of good comfort; 4thy faith hath made thee whole. 6And the woman was made whole 6

from that hour. 323And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house, 8and saw the minstrels 4and the people making a noise, 524He said unto them, 4Give place: 2for the maid is not dead, 6but sleepeth. 2And they laughed him to scorn. 625But when the people were put forth, 7he went in, 3and took her by the hand, 6and the maid arose. 426And the fame hereof went abroad 6into all that land. 427And when Jesus departed thence, 5two blind men followed him, 5crying, 1and saying, 2Thou Son of David, 4have mercy on us. 428And when he was come into the house, 8the blind men came to him: 6and Jesus saith unto them, 5Believe ye that I am able 6to do this? 3They said unto him, 4Yea, 1Lord. 129Then touched he their eyes, 5saying, 1According to your faith be it unto you. 830And their eyes were opened; 5and Jesus straitly charged them, 5saying, 1See that no man know it. 6

Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your

faith be it unto you.

31But they, 2when they were departed, 4spread abroad his fame in all that country. 832As they went out, 4behold, 1they brought to him a dumb man 7possessed with a devil. 433And when the devil was cast out, 7the dumb spake: 3and the multitudes marvelled, 4saying, 1It was never so seen in Israel. 734But the Pharisees said, 4He casteth out devils 4through the prince of the devils. 635And Jesus went about all the cities 7and villages, 2teaching in their synagogues, 4and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, 7and healing every sickness 4and every disease among the people. 636But when he saw the multitudes, 6he was moved with compassion on them, 7because they fainted, 3and were scattered abroad, 4as sheep having no shepherd. 537Then saith he unto his disciples, 6The harvest truly is plenteous, 5but the labourers are few; 538Pray ye therefore 3the Lord of the harvest, 5that he will send forth labourers 6into his harvest. 3

101And when he had called unto him his 8twelve 12

disciples, 1he gave them power against unclean spirits, 7to cast them out, 4and to heal all manner of sickness 7and all manner of disease. 52Now the names of the 5twelve 1apostles are these; 3The first, 2Simon, 1who is called Peter, 4and Andrew his brother; 4James the son of Zebedee, 5

and John his brother; 43Philip, 1and Bartholomew; 2Thomas, 1and Matthew the publican; 4James the son of Alphaeus, 5and Lebbaeus, 2whose surname was Thaddaeus; 44Simon the Canaanite, 3and Judas Iscariot, 3who also betrayed him. 45These 1twelve 12Jesus sent forth, 3and commanded them, 3saying, 1Go not into the way of the Gentiles, 8and into any city of the Samaritans 7enter ye not: 36But go rather to the lost sheep 7of the house of Israel. 57And as ye go, 4preach, 1saying, 1The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 78Heal the sick, 3cleanse the lepers, 3raise the dead, 3cast out devils: 3freely ye have received, 4freely give. 29Provide neither gold, 3nor silver, 2nor brass in your purses, 510Nor scrip for your journey, 5neither two coats, 3neither shoes, 2nor yet staves: 3for the workman is worthy of his meat. 811And into whatsoever city 4or town ye shall enter, 5inquire who in it is worthy; 6and there abide till ye go thence. 712And when ye come into an house, 7salute it. 213And if the house be worthy, 6let your peace come upon it: 6but if it be not worthy, 6let your peace return to you. 614And whosoever shall not receive you, 6

nor hear your words, 4when ye depart 3out of that house or city, 6shake off the dust of your feet. 715Verily I say unto you, 5It shall be more tolerable 5for the land of Sodom 5and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, 7than for that city. 416Behold, 1I send you forth as sheep 6in the midst of wolves: 5be ye therefore wise as serpents, 6and harmless as doves. 417But beware of men: 4for they will deliver you up 6to the councils, 3and they will scourge you in their synagogues; 818And ye shall be brought before governors 7and kings for my sake, 5for a testimony against them 5and the Gentiles. 319But when they deliver you up, 6take no thought 3how or what ye shall speak: 6for it shall be given you 6in that same hour what ye shall speak. 820For it is not ye that speak, 7but the Spirit of your Father 6which speaketh in you. 421And the brother 3shall deliver up the brother to death, 7and the father the child: 5and the children 3shall rise up against their parents, 6and cause them to be put to death. 822And ye shall be hated of all men 8for my name’s sake: 4but he that endureth to the end 7shall be saved. 323But when they persecute you in this city, 8flee ye into another: 4for verily I say unto you, 6Ye shall not have gone 5over the cities of Israel, 5till the Son of man be come. 724The disciple is not above his master, 7nor the servant above his lord. 625It is enough for the disciple 6that he be as his master, 6

and the servant as his lord. 6If they have called 4the master of the house Beelzebub, 6how much more 3shall they call them of his household? 726Fear them not therefore: 4for there is nothing covered, 5that shall not be revealed; 5and hid, 2that shall not be known. 527What I tell you in darkness, 6that speak ye in light: 5and what ye hear in the ear, 7that preach ye upon the housetops. 628And fear not them which kill the body, 8but are not able to kill the soul: 8but rather fear him 4which is able to destroy both soul 7and body in hell. 429Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? 8and one of them 4shall not fall on the ground 6without your Father. 330But the very hairs of your head 7are all numbered. 331Fear ye not therefore, 4ye are of more value than many sparrows. 832Whosoever therefore 2shall confess me before men, 5him will I confess also before my Father 8which is in heaven. 433But whosoever shall deny me before men, 7him will I also deny before my Father 8which is in heaven. 434Think not that I am come 6to send peace on earth: 5I came not to send peace, 6but a sword. 335For I am come to set a man 8at variance against his father, 5and the daughter against her mother, 6and the daughter in law 5against her mother in law. 536And a man’s foes 4shall be they of his own household. 737He that loveth father 4or mother more than me 5is not worthy of me: 5and he that loveth son 5or daughter more than me 5

is not worthy of me. 538And he that taketh not his cross, 7and followeth after me, 4is not worthy of me. 539He that findeth his life shall lose it: 8and he that loseth his life 6for my sake shall find it. 640He that receiveth you receiveth me, 6and he that receiveth me 5receiveth him that sent me. 541He that receiveth a prophet 5in the name of a prophet 6shall receive a prophet’s reward; 5and he that receiveth a righteous man 7in the name of a righteous man 7shall receive a righteous man’s reward. 642And whosoever shall give to drink 6unto one of these little ones 6a cup of cold water 5only in the name of a disciple, 7verily I say unto you, 5he shall in no wise lose his reward. 8

111And it came to pass, 5when Jesus had made an end 6of commanding his 3

twelve 12disciples, 1he departed thence to teach 5and to preach in their cities. 62Now when John had heard in the prison 8the works of Christ, 4he sent two of his disciples, 63And said unto him, 4Art thou he that should come, 6or do we look for another? 64Jesus answered 2and said unto them, 4Go 1and shew John again those things 6which ye do hear 4and see: 25The blind receive their sight, 5and the lame walk, 4the lepers are cleansed, 4and the deaf hear, 4the dead are raised up, 5and the poor 3have the gospel preached to them. 66And blessed is he, 4

whosoever shall not be offended in me. 77And as they departed, 4Jesus began to say 4unto the multitudes concerning John, 5What went ye out 4into the wilderness to see? 5A reed shaken with the wind? 68But what went ye out for to see? 8A man clothed in soft raiment? 6behold, 1they that wear soft clothing 5are in kings’ houses. 49But what went ye out for to see? 8A prophet? 2yea, 1I say unto you, 4and more than a prophet. 510For this is he, 4of whom it is written, 5Behold, 1I send my messenger before thy face, 7which shall prepare thy way before thee. 711Verily I say unto you, 5Among them that are born of women 7there hath not risen 4a greater than John the Baptist: 6notwithstanding 1he that is least 4in the kingdom of heaven 5is greater than he. 412And from the days of John the Baptist 8until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, 8and the violent take it by force. 713For all the prophets 4and the law prophesied until John. 614And if ye will receive it, 6this is Elias, 3which was for to come. 515He that hath ears to hear, 6let him hear. 316But whereunto shall I liken this generation? 7It is like unto children 5sitting in the markets, 4and calling unto their fellows, 517And saying, 2We have piped unto you, 5and ye have not danced; 5we have mourned unto you, 5

and ye have not lamented. 518For John came neither eating nor drinking, 7and they say, 3He hath a devil. 419The Son of man came eating 6and drinking, 2and they say, 3Behold 1a man gluttonous, 3and a winebibber, 3a friend of publicans 4and sinners. 2But wisdom is justified of her children. 720Then began he to upbraid the cities 7wherein most of his mighty works were done, 8because they repented not: 421Woe unto thee, 3Chorazin! 1woe unto thee, 3Bethsaida! 1for if the mighty works, 5which were done in you, 5had been done in Tyre 5and Sidon, 2they would have repented 4long ago in sackcloth 4and ashes. 222But I say unto you, 5It shall be more tolerable for Tyre 7and Sidon at the day of judgment, 7than for you. 323And thou, 2Capernaum, 1which art exalted unto heaven, 5shalt be brought down to hell: 6for if the mighty works, 5which have been done in thee, 6had been done in Sodom, 5it would have remained until this day. 724But I say unto you, 5That it shall be more tolerable 6for the land of Sodom 5in the day of judgment, 5than for thee. 325At that time Jesus answered 5and said, 2I thank thee, 3O Father, 2Lord of heaven 3

and earth, 2because thou hast hid these things 6from the wise 3and prudent, 2and hast revealed them unto babes. 626Even so, 2Father: 1for so it seemed good in thy sight. 827All things are delivered 4unto me of my Father: 5and no man knoweth the Son, 6but the Father; 3neither knoweth any man the Father, 6save the Son, 3and he to whomsoever 4the Son will reveal him. 528Come unto me, 3all ye that labour 4and are heavy laden, 4and I will give you rest. 629Take my yoke upon you, 5and learn of me; 4for I am meek 4and lowly in heart: 4and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 830For my yoke is easy, 5and my burden is light. 5

121At that time 3Jesus went on the sabbath day 6through the corn; 3

and his disciples were an hungred, 6and began to pluck the ears of corn, 8and to eat. 32But when the Pharisees saw it, 6they said unto him, 4

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy

laden, and I will give you rest.

Behold, 1thy disciples do that 4which is not lawful to do 6upon the sabbath day. 43But he said unto them, 5Have ye not read what David did, 7when he was an hungred, 5and they that were with him; 64How he entered into the house of God, 8and did eat the shewbread, 5which was not lawful for him to eat, 8neither for them which were with him, 7but only for the priests? 55Or have ye not read in the law, 8how that on the sabbath days 6the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, 8and are blameless? 36But I say unto you, 5That in this place 4is one greater than the temple. 67But if ye had known what this meaneth, 8I will have mercy, 4and not sacrifice, 3ye would not have condemned the guiltless. 78For the Son of man is Lord 7even of the sabbath day. 59And when he was departed thence, 5he went into their synagogue: 510And, 1behold, 1there was a man 4which had his hand withered. 5And they asked him, 4saying, 1Is it lawful to heal 5on the sabbath days? 4that they might accuse him. 511And he said unto them, 5What man shall there be among you, 7that shall have one sheep, 5and if it fall into a pit 7on the sabbath day, 4will he not lay hold on it, 7and lift it out? 412How much then 3is a man better than a sheep? 7Wherefore 1it is lawful to do well 6on the sabbath days. 413Then saith he to the man, 6

Stretch forth thine hand. 4And he stretched it forth; 5and it was restored whole, 5like as the other. 414Then the Pharisees went out, 5and held a council against him, 6how they might destroy him. 515But when Jesus knew it, 5he withdrew himself from thence: 5and great multitudes followed him, 5and he healed them all; 516And charged them 3that they should not make him known: 717That it might be fulfilled 5which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, 7saying, 118Behold 1my servant, 2whom I have chosen; 4my beloved, 2in whom my soul is well pleased: 7I will put my spirit upon him, 7and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles. 819He shall not strive, 4nor cry; 2neither shall any man 4hear his voice in the streets. 620A bruised reed shall he not break, 7and smoking flax shall he not quench, 7till he send forth judgment unto victory. 721And in his name shall the Gentiles trust. 822Then was brought unto him 5one possessed with a devil, 5blind, 1and dumb: 2and he healed him, 4insomuch that the blind 4and dumb both spake 4and saw. 223And all the people were amazed, 6and said, 2Is not this the son of David? 724But when the Pharisees heard it, 6they said, 2This fellow doth not cast out devils, 7but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. 825And Jesus knew their thoughts, 5and said unto them, 4Every kingdom divided against itself 5is brought to desolation; 4

and every city or house 5divided against itself shall not stand: 626And if Satan cast out Satan, 6he is divided against himself; 5how shall then his kingdom stand? 627And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, 8by whom do your children cast them out? 7therefore 1they shall be your judges. 528But if I cast out devils 6by the Spirit of God, 5then the kingdom of God 5is come unto you. 429Or else how can one enter into 7a strong man’s house, 4and spoil his goods, 4except he first bind the strong man? 7and then he will spoil his house. 730He that is not with me 6is against me; 3and he that gathereth not with me 7scattereth abroad. 231Wherefore 1I say unto you, 4All manner of sin 4and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: 7but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost 7shall not be forgiven unto men. 632And whosoever speaketh a word 5against the Son of man, 5it shall be forgiven him: 5but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, 7it shall not be forgiven him, 6neither in this world, 4neither in the world to come. 633Either make the tree good, 5and his fruit good; 4or else make the tree corrupt, 6and his fruit corrupt: 4for the tree is known by his fruit. 834O generation of vipers, 4how can ye, 3being evil, 2speak good things? 3for out of the abundance of the heart 8the mouth speaketh. 335A good man 3out of the good treasure of the heart 8bringeth forth good things: 4

and an evil man 4out of the evil treasure 5bringeth forth evil things. 436But I say unto you, 5That every idle word that men shall speak, 8they shall give account thereof 5in the day of judgment. 537For by thy words thou shalt be justified, 8and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. 838Then certain of the scribes 5and of the Pharisees answered, 5saying, 1Master, 1we would see a sign from thee. 739But he answered 3and said unto them, 4An evil 2and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; 7and there shall no sign 5be given to it, 4but the sign of the prophet Jonas: 740For as Jonas was three days 6and three nights in the whale’s belly; 7so shall the Son of man 6be three days 3and three nights 3in the heart of the earth. 641The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment 8with this generation, 3and shall condemn it: 4because they repented 3at the preaching of Jonas; 5and, 1behold, 1a greater than Jonas is here. 642The queen of the south 5shall rise up in the judgment 6with this generation, 3and shall condemn it: 4for she came from 4the uttermost parts of the earth 6to hear the wisdom of Solomon; 6and, 1behold, 1a greater than Solomon is here. 643When the unclean spirit 4is gone out of a man, 6he walketh through dry places, 5seeking rest, 2

and findeth none. 344Then he saith, 3I will return into my house 6from whence I came out; 5and when he is come, 5he findeth it empty, 4swept, 1and garnished. 245Then goeth he, 3and taketh with himself seven other spirits 7more wicked than himself, 4and they enter in 4and dwell there: 3and the last state of that man 7is worse than the first. 5Even so shall it be 5also unto this wicked generation. 546While he yet talked to the people, 7behold, 1his mother 2and his brethren stood without, 5desiring to speak with him. 547Then one said unto him, 5Behold, 1thy mother 2and thy brethren stand without, 5desiring to speak with thee. 548But he answered 3and said unto him that told him, 7Who is my mother? 4and who are my brethren? 549And he stretched forth his hand 6toward his disciples, 3and said, 2Behold 1my mother 2and my brethren! 350For whosoever shall do 4the will of my Father 5which is in heaven, 4the same is my brother, 5and sister, 2and mother. 2

131The same day 3went Jesus out of the house, 6and sat by the sea side. 6

2And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, 8so that he went into a ship, 7

and sat; 2and the whole multitude stood on the shore. 83And he spake many things 5unto them in parables, 4saying, 1Behold, 1a sower went forth to sow; 64And when he sowed, 4some seeds fell by the way side, 7and the fowls came 4and devoured them up: 45Some fell upon stony places, 5where they had not much earth: 6and forthwith they sprung up, 5because they had no deepness of earth: 76And when the sun was up, 6they were scorched; 3and because they had no root, 6they withered away. 37And some fell among thorns; 5and the thorns sprung up, 5and choked them: 38But other fell into good ground, 6and brought forth fruit, 4some 1an hundred 100fold, 1some 1sixty 60fold, 1some 1thirty 30fold. 19Who hath ears to hear, 5let him hear. 310And the disciples came, 4and said unto him, 4Why speakest thou unto them in parables? 711He answered 2and said unto them, 4Because it is given unto you 6to know the mysteries 4of the kingdom of heaven, 5but to them it is not given. 712For whosoever hath, 3to him shall be given, 5and he shall have more abundance: 6but whosoever hath not, 4from him shall be taken away 6even that he hath. 4

13Therefore 1speak I to them in parables: 6because they seeing see not; 5and hearing they hear not, 5neither do they understand. 414And in them is fulfilled 5the prophecy of Esaias, 4which saith, 2By hearing ye shall hear, 5and shall not understand; 4and seeing ye shall see, 5and shall not perceive: 415For this people’s heart is waxed gross, 7and their ears are dull of hearing, 7and their eyes they have closed; 6lest at any time 4they should see with their eyes, 6and hear with their ears, 5and should understand with their heart, 6and should be converted, 4and I should heal them. 516But blessed are your eyes, 5for they see: 3and your ears, 3for they hear. 317For verily I say unto you, 6That many prophets 3and righteous men have desired 5to see those things which ye see, 7and have not seen them; 5and to hear those things which ye hear, 8and have not heard them. 518Hear ye therefore 3the parable of the sower. 519When any one heareth 4the word of the kingdom, 5and understandeth it not, 4then cometh the wicked one, 5and catcheth away 3that which was sown in his heart. 7This is he which received seed 6by the way side. 420But he that received the seed 6into stony places, 3the same is he that heareth the word, 8and anon with joy receiveth it; 621Yet hath he not root in himself, 7but dureth for a while: 5for when tribulation or persecution ariseth 6because of the word, 4

by 1and by he is offended. 522He also that received seed 5among the thorns 3is he that heareth the word; 6and the care of this world, 6and the deceitfulness of riches, 5choke the word, 3and he becometh unfruitful. 423But he that received seed 5into the good ground 4is he that heareth the word, 6and understandeth it; 3which also beareth fruit, 4and bringeth forth, 3some 1an hundred 100fold, 1some 1sixty, 60some 1thirty. 3024Another parable put he forth unto them, 7saying, 1The kingdom of heaven 4is likened unto a man 5which sowed good seed in his field: 725But while men slept, 4his enemy came 3and sowed tares among the wheat, 6and went his way. 426But when the blade was sprung up, 7and brought forth fruit, 4then appeared the tares also. 527So the servants of the householder came 7and said unto him, 4Sir, 1didst not thou sow good seed 6in thy field? 3from whence then hath it tares? 628He said unto them, 4An enemy hath done this. 5The servants said unto him, 5Wilt thou then that we go 6and gather them up? 429But he said, 3Nay; 1lest while ye gather up the tares, 7ye root up also the wheat with them. 830Let both grow together until the harvest: 7

and in the time of harvest 6I will say to the reapers, 6Gather ye together first the tares, 6and bind them in bundles to burn them: 8but gather the wheat into my barn. 731Another parable put he forth unto them, 7saying, 1The kingdom of heaven 4is like to a grain of mustard seed, 8which a man took, 4and sowed in his field: 532Which indeed is the least of all seeds: 8but when it is grown, 5it is the greatest among herbs, 6and becometh a tree, 4so that the birds of the air come 8and lodge in the branches thereof. 633Another parable spake he unto them; 6The kingdom of heaven 4is like unto leaven, 4which a woman took, 4and hid in three measures of meal, 7till the whole was leavened. 534All these things 3spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; 7and without a parable 4spake he not unto them: 535That it might be fulfilled 5which was spoken by the prophet, 6saying, 1I will open my mouth in parables; 7I will utter things 4which have been kept secret 5from the foundation of the world. 636Then Jesus sent the multitude away, 6and went into the house: 5and his disciples came unto him, 6saying, 1Declare unto us 3the parable of the tares of the field. 837He answered 2and said unto them, 4He that soweth the good seed 6is the Son of man; 538The field is the world; 5the good seed 3are the children of the kingdom; 6but the tares 3are the children of the wicked one; 739The enemy that sowed them is the devil; 8

the harvest is the end of the world; 8and the reapers are the angels. 640As therefore 2the tares are gathered 4and burned in the fire; 5so shall it be 4in the end of this world. 641The Son of man 4shall send forth his angels, 5and they shall gather out of his kingdom 8all things that offend, 4and them which do iniquity; 542And shall cast them 4into a furnace of fire: 5there shall be wailing 4and gnashing of teeth. 443Then shall the righteous shine forth 6as the sun 3in the kingdom of their Father. 6Who hath ears to hear, 5let him hear. 344Again, 1the kingdom of heaven 4is like unto treasure hid in a field; 8the which when a man hath found, 7he hideth, 2and for joy thereof goeth 5and selleth all that he hath, 6and buyeth that field. 445Again, 1the kingdom of heaven 4is like unto a merchant man, 6seeking goodly pearls: 346Who, 1when he had found 4one pearl of great price, 5went 1and sold all that he had, 6and bought it. 347Again, 1the kingdom of heaven 4is like unto a net, 5that was cast into the sea, 6and gathered of every kind: 548Which, 1when it was full, 4they drew to shore, 4and sat down, 3and gathered the good into vessels, 6but cast the bad away. 5

49So shall it be 4at the end of the world: 6the angels shall come forth, 5and sever the wicked from among the just, 850And shall cast them 4into the furnace of fire: 5there shall be wailing 4and gnashing of teeth. 451Jesus saith unto them, 4Have ye understood all these things? 6They say unto him, 4Yea, 1Lord. 152Then said he unto them, 5Therefore 1every scribe which is instructed 5unto the kingdom of heaven 5is like unto a man 5that is an householder, 4which bringeth forth out of his treasure 7things new 2and old. 253And it came to pass, 5that when Jesus had finished these parables, 7he departed thence. 354And when he was come into 6his own country, 3he taught them in their synagogue, 6insomuch that they were astonished, 5and said, 2Whence hath this man this wisdom, 6and these mighty works? 455Is not this the carpenter’s son? 6is not his mother called Mary? 6and his brethren, 3James, 1and Joses, 2and Simon, 2and Judas? 256And his sisters, 3are they not all with us? 6Whence then hath this man all these things? 857And they were offended in him. 6But Jesus said unto them, 5A prophet is not without honour, 6save in his own country, 5and in his own house. 558And he did not many mighty works there 8because of their unbelief. 4

141At that time Herod the tetrarch 6heard of the fame of Jesus, 62And said unto his servants, 5

This is John the Baptist; 5he is risen from the dead; 6and therefore 2mighty works do shew forth themselves in him. 83For Herod had laid hold on John, 7and bound him, 3and put him in prison for Herodias’ sake, 8his brother Philip’s wife. 44For John said unto him, 5It is not lawful for thee 6to have her. 35And when he would have 5put him to death, 4he feared the multitude, 4because they counted him as a prophet. 76But when Herod’s birthday was kept, 6the daughter of Herodias danced before them, 7and pleased Herod. 37Whereupon he promised with an oath 6to give her whatsoever she would ask. 78And she, 2being before instructed of her mother, 6said, 1Give me here John Baptist’s head 6in a charger. 39And the king was sorry: 5nevertheless 1for the oath’s sake, 4and them which sat with him at meat, 8he commanded it to be given her. 810And he sent, 3and beheaded John in the prison. 611And his head was brought in a charger, 8and given to the damsel: 5and she brought it to her mother. 712And his disciples came, 4and took up the body, 5and buried it, 3and went 2and told Jesus. 313When Jesus heard of it, 5he departed thence by ship 5into a desert place apart: 5and when the people had heard thereof, 7they followed him on foot 5out of the cities. 4

14And Jesus went forth, 4and saw a great multitude, 5and was moved with compassion toward them, 7and he healed their sick. 515And when it was evening, 5his disciples came to him, 5saying, 1This is a desert place, 5and the time is now past; 6send the multitude away, 4that they may go into the villages, 7and buy themselves victuals. 416But Jesus said unto them, 5They need not depart; 4give ye them to eat. 517And they say unto him, 5We have here but five loaves, 6and two fishes. 318He said, 2Bring them hither to me. 519And he commanded the multitude 5to sit down on the grass, 6and took the five loaves, 5and the two fishes, 4and looking up to heaven, 5he blessed, 2and brake, 2and gave the loaves to his disciples, 7and the disciples to the multitude. 620And they did all eat, 5and were filled: 3and they took up of the fragments 7that remained 2twelve 12baskets full. 221And they that had eaten were about 7five thousand 5000men, 1beside women 2and children. 222And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples 6to get into a ship, 5and to go before him 5unto the other side, 4while he sent the multitudes away. 623And when he had sent the multitudes away, 8he went up into a mountain 6apart to pray: 3

and when the evening was come, 6he was there alone. 424But the ship was now 5in the midst of the sea, 6tossed with waves: 3for the wind was contrary. 525And in the fourth watch of the night 8Jesus went unto them, 4walking on the sea. 426And when the disciples saw him 6walking on the sea, 4they were troubled, 3saying, 1It is a spirit; 4and they cried out for fear. 627But straightway Jesus spake unto them, 6saying, 1Be of good cheer; 4it is I; 3be not afraid. 328And Peter answered him 4and said, 2Lord, 1if it be thou, 4bid me come unto thee on the water. 829And he said, 3Come. 1And when Peter was come down 6out of the ship, 4he walked on the water, 5to go to Jesus. 430But when he saw the wind boisterous, 7he was afraid; 3and beginning to sink, 4he cried, 2saying, 1Lord, 1save me. 231And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, 7and caught him, 3and said unto him, 4O thou of little faith, 5wherefore didst thou doubt? 432And when they were come into the ship, 8the wind ceased. 333Then they that were in the ship came 8and worshipped him, 3saying, 1Of a truth thou art 5

the Son of God. 434And when they were gone over, 6they came into the land of Gennesaret. 735And when the men of that place 7had knowledge of him, 4they sent out into all that country 7round about, 2and brought unto him all that were diseased; 836And besought him 3that they might only touch 5the hem of his garment: 5and as many as touched 5were made perfectly whole. 4

151Then came to Jesus scribes 5and Pharisees, 2which were of Jerusalem, 4

saying, 12Why do thy disciples 4transgress the tradition of the elders? 6for they wash not their hands 6when they eat bread. 43But he answered 3and said unto them, 4Why do ye also transgress 5the commandment of God by your tradition? 74For God commanded, 3saying, 1Honour thy father 3and mother: 2and, 1He that curseth father or mother, 6let him die the death. 55But ye say, 3Whosoever shall say to his father 6or his mother, 3It is a gift, 4by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; 86And honour not his father 5or his mother, 3he shall be free. 4Thus have ye made the commandment of God 8of none effect by your tradition. 67Ye hypocrites, 2well did Esaias prophesy of you, 6saying, 18This people draweth nigh unto me 6with their mouth, 3

and honoureth me with their lips; 6but their heart is far from me. 79But in vain they do worship me, 7teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. 710And he called the multitude, 5and said unto them, 4Hear, 1and understand: 211Not that which goeth into the mouth 7defileth a man; 3but that which cometh out of the mouth, 8this defileth a man. 412Then came his disciples, 4and said unto him, 4Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, 7after they heard this saying? 513But he answered 3and said, 2Every plant, 2which my heavenly Father hath not planted, 7shall be rooted up. 414Let them alone: 3they be blind leaders of the blind. 7And if the blind lead the blind, 7both shall fall into the ditch. 615Then answered Peter 3and said unto him, 4Declare unto us this parable. 516And Jesus said, 3Are ye also yet without understanding? 617Do not ye yet understand, 5that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth 7goeth into the belly, 4and is cast out into the draught? 718But those things which proceed 5out of the mouth 4come forth from the heart; 5and they defile the man. 519For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, 8murders, 1adulteries, 1fornications, 1thefts, 1false witness, 2blasphemies: 120These are the things which defile a man: 8

but to eat with unwashen hands 6defileth not a man. 421Then Jesus went thence, 4and departed into the coasts of Tyre 7and Sidon. 222And, 1behold, 1a woman of Canaan 4came out of the same coasts, 6and cried unto him, 4saying, 1Have mercy on me, 4O Lord, 2thou Son of David; 4my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. 823But he answered her not a word. 7And his disciples came 4and besought him, 3saying, 1Send her away; 3for she crieth after us. 524But he answered 3and said, 2I am not sent 4but unto the lost sheep 5of the house of Israel. 525Then came she 3and worshipped him, 3saying, 1Lord, 1help me. 226But he answered 3and said, 2It is not meet 4to take the children’s bread, 5and to cast it to dogs. 627And she said, 3Truth, 1Lord: 1yet the dogs eat of the crumbs 7which fall from their masters’ table. 628Then Jesus answered 3and said unto her, 4O woman, 2great is thy faith: 4be it unto thee even as thou wilt. 8And her daughter was made whole 6from that very hour. 429And Jesus departed from thence, 5

and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; 8and went up into a mountain, 6and sat down there. 430And great multitudes came unto him, 6having with them those that were lame, 7blind, 1dumb, 1maimed, 1and many others, 3and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; 7and he healed them: 431Insomuch that the multitude wondered, 5when they saw the dumb to speak, 7the maimed to be whole, 5the lame to walk, 4and the blind to see: 5and they glorified the God of Israel. 732Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, 7and said, 2I have compassion on the multitude, 6because they continue with me now three days, 8and have nothing to eat: 5and I will not send them away fasting, 8lest they faint in the way. 633And his disciples say unto him, 6Whence should we have so much bread 7in the wilderness, 3as to fill so great a multitude? 734And Jesus saith unto them, 5How many loaves have ye? 5And they said, 3Seven, 7and a few little fishes. 535And he commanded the multitude 5to sit down on the ground. 636And he took the seven loaves 6and the fishes, 3and gave thanks, 3and brake them, 3and gave to his disciples, 5and the disciples to the multitude. 637And they did all eat, 5and were filled: 3and they took up of the broken meat 8that was left seven baskets full. 638And they that did eat were 6four thousand 4000men, 1

beside women 2and children. 239And he sent away the multitude, 6and took ship, 3and came into the coasts of Magdala, 7

161The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, 7and tempting desired him 4

that he would shew them 5a sign from heaven. 42He answered 2and said unto them, 4When it is evening, 4ye say, 2It will be fair weather: 5for the sky is red. 53And in the morning, 4It will be foul weather today: 6for the sky is red 5and lowring. 2O ye hypocrites, 3ye can discern the face of the sky; 8but can ye not discern 5the signs of the times? 54A wicked 2and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; 7and there shall no sign 5be given unto it, 4but the sign of the prophet Jonas. 7And he left them, 4and departed. 25And when his disciples 4were come to the other side, 6they had forgotten to take bread. 66Then Jesus said unto them, 5Take heed 2and beware 2of the leaven 3of the Pharisees 3and of the Sadducees. 47And they reasoned among themselves, 5saying, 1It is because we have taken no bread. 88Which when Jesus perceived, 4he said unto them, 4O ye of little faith, 5why reason ye among yourselves, 5because ye have brought no bread? 69Do ye not yet understand, 5

neither remember the five loaves of the 7five thousand, 5000and how many baskets ye took up? 710Neither the seven loaves of the 6four thousand, 4000and how many baskets ye took up? 711How is it that ye do not understand 8that I spake it 4not to you concerning bread, 5that ye should beware 4of the leaven 3of the Pharisees 3and of the Sadducees? 412Then understood they 3how that he bade them not beware 7of the leaven of bread, 5but of the doctrine 4of the Pharisees 3and of the Sadducees. 413When Jesus came into the coasts 6of Caesarea Philippi, 3he asked his disciples, 4saying, 1Whom do men say 4that I the Son of man am? 714And they said, 3Some say that thou art John the Baptist: 8some, 1Elias; 1and others, 2Jeremias, 1or one of the prophets. 515He saith unto them, 4But whom say ye that I am? 716And Simon Peter answered 4and said, 2Thou art the Christ, 4the Son of the living God. 617And Jesus answered 3and said unto him, 4Blessed art thou, 3Simon Barjona: 1for flesh 2and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, 8but my Father which is in heaven. 718And I say also unto thee, 6That thou art Peter, 4and upon this rock 4I will build my church; 5and the gates of hell 5

shall not prevail against it. 519And I will give unto thee 6the keys of the kingdom of heaven: 7and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth 7shall be bound in heaven: 5and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth 7shall be loosed in heaven. 520Then charged he his disciples 5that they should tell no man 6that he was Jesus the Christ. 621From that time forth 4began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, 7how that he must go unto Jerusalem, 7and suffer many things of the elders 7and chief priests 3and scribes, 2and be killed, 3and be raised again the third day. 722Then Peter took him, 4and began to rebuke him, 5saying, 1Be it far from thee, 5Lord: 1this shall not be unto thee. 623But he turned, 3and said unto Peter, 4Get thee behind me, 4Satan: 1thou art an offence unto me: 6for thou savourest not 4the things that be of God, 6but those that be of men. 624Then said Jesus unto his disciples, 6If any man will come after me, 7let him deny himself, 4and take up his cross, 5and follow me. 325For whosoever will save his life 6shall lose it: 3and whosoever will lose his life 6for my sake shall find it. 626For what is a man profited, 6if he shall gain the whole world, 7and lose his own soul? 5or what shall a man give 6in exchange for his soul? 527For the Son of man 5shall come in the glory of his Father 8with his angels; 3and then he shall reward every man 7

according to his works. 428Verily I say unto you, 5There be some standing here, 5which shall not taste of death, 6till they see the Son of man 7coming in his kingdom. 4

171And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, 7James, 1

and John his brother, 4and bringeth them up 4into an high mountain apart, 52And was transfigured before them: 5and his face did shine as the sun, 8and his raiment was white as the light. 83And, 1behold, 1there appeared unto them Moses 5and Elias talking with him. 54Then answered Peter, 3and said unto Jesus, 4Lord, 1it is good for us to be here: 8if thou wilt, 3let us make here three tabernacles; 6one for thee, 3and one for Moses, 4and one for Elias. 45While he yet spake, 4behold, 1a bright cloud overshadowed them: 5and behold 2a voice out of the cloud, 6which said, 2This is my beloved Son, 5in whom I am well pleased; 6hear ye him. 36And when the disciples heard it, 6they fell on their face, 5and were sore afraid. 47And Jesus came 3and touched them, 3and said, 2Arise, 1and be not afraid. 48And when they had lifted up their eyes, 8they saw no man, 4save Jesus only. 3

9And as they came down from the mountain, 8Jesus charged them, 3saying, 1Tell the vision to no man, 6until the Son of man 5be risen again from the dead. 610And his disciples asked him, 5saying, 1Why then say the scribes 5that Elias must first come? 511And Jesus answered 3and said unto them, 4Elias truly shall first come, 5and restore all things. 412But I say unto you, 5That Elias is come already, 5and they knew him not, 5but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. 8Likewise shall also the Son of man 7suffer of them. 313Then the disciples understood 4that he spake unto them 5of John the Baptist. 414And when they were come to the multitude, 8there came to him a certain man, 7kneeling down to him, 4and saying, 215Lord, 1have mercy on my son: 5for he is lunatick, 4and sore vexed: 3for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, 7and oft into the water. 516And I brought him to thy disciples, 7and they could not cure him. 617Then Jesus answered 3and said, 2O faithless 2and perverse generation, 3how long shall I be with you? 7how long shall I suffer you? 6bring him hither to me. 518And Jesus rebuked the devil; 5and he departed out of him: 6and the child was cured 5from that very hour. 419Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, 7

and said, 2Why could not we cast him out? 720And Jesus said unto them, 5Because of your unbelief: 4for verily I say unto you, 6If ye have faith 4as a grain of mustard seed, 6ye shall say unto this mountain, 6Remove hence to yonder place; 5and it shall remove; 4and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 721Howbeit this kind goeth not out 6but by prayer 3and fasting. 222And while they abode in Galilee, 6Jesus said unto them, 4The Son of man shall be betrayed 7into the hands of men: 523And they shall kill him, 5and the third day 4he shall be raised again. 5And they were exceeding sorry. 524And when they were come to Capernaum, 7they that received tribute money 5came to Peter, 3and said, 2Doth not your master pay tribute? 625He saith, 2Yes. 1And when he was come into the house, 8Jesus prevented him, 3saying, 1What thinkest thou, 3Simon? 1of whom do the kings of the earth 8take custom or tribute? 4of their own children, 4or of strangers? 326Peter saith unto him, 4Of strangers. 2Jesus saith unto him, 4Then are the children free. 527Notwithstanding, 1lest we should offend them, 5go thou to the sea, 5and cast an hook, 4and take up the fish 5that first cometh up; 4and when thou hast opened his mouth, 7

thou shalt find a piece of money: 7that take, 2and give unto them for me 6and thee. 2

181At the same time 4came the disciples unto Jesus, 5saying, 1

Who is the greatest 4in the kingdom of heaven? 52And Jesus called a little child unto him, 8and set him in the midst of them, 83And said, 2Verily I say unto you, 5Except ye be converted, 4and become as little children, 5ye shall not enter into 5the kingdom of heaven. 44Whosoever therefore 2shall humble himself as this little child, 7the same is greatest 4in the kingdom of heaven. 55And whoso shall receive one such little child 8in my name receiveth me. 56But whoso shall offend 4one of these little ones 5which believe in me, 4it were better for him 5that a millstone were hanged about his neck, 8and that he were drowned 5in the depth of the sea. 67Woe unto the world because of offences! 7for it must needs be that offences come; 8but woe to that man 5by whom the offence cometh! 58Wherefore 1if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, 8cut them off, 3and cast them from thee: 5it is better for thee 5to enter into life halt or maimed, 7rather than having two hands or two feet 8to be cast into everlasting fire. 69And if thine eye offend thee, 6pluck it out, 3and cast it from thee: 5it is better for thee 5to enter into life with one eye, 7rather than having two eyes 5

to be cast into hell fire. 610Take heed that ye despise not 6one of these little ones; 5for I say unto you, 5That in heaven their angels 5do always behold the face 5of my Father which is in heaven. 711For the Son of man is come 7to save that which was lost. 612How think ye? 3if a man have 4an hundred 100sheep, 1and one of them be gone astray, 7doth he not leave the 5ninety and nine, 99and goeth into the mountains, 5and seeketh that which is gone astray? 713And if so be that he find it, 8verily I say unto you, 5he rejoiceth more of that sheep, 6than of the 3ninety and nine 99which went not astray. 414Even so 2it is not the will of your Father 8which is in heaven, 4that one of these little ones should perish. 815Moreover 1if thy brother shall trespass against thee, 7go 1and tell him his fault between thee 7and him alone: 3if he shall hear thee, 5thou hast gained thy brother. 516But if he will not hear thee, 7then take with thee one or two more, 8that in the mouth 4of two or three witnesses 5every word may be established. 517And if he shall neglect to hear them, 8tell it unto the church: 5but if he neglect to hear the church, 8let him be unto thee 5as an heathen man 4and a publican. 318Verily I say unto you, 5Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth 6shall be bound in heaven: 5and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth 7

shall be loosed in heaven. 519Again I say unto you, 5That if two of you 5shall agree on earth as touching anything 7that they shall ask, 4it shall be done for them 6of my Father which is in heaven. 720For where two or three 5are gathered together in my name, 6there am I in the midst of them. 821Then came Peter to him, 5and said, 2Lord, 1how oft shall my brother sin against me, 8and I forgive him? 4till seven times? 322Jesus saith unto him, 4I say not unto thee, 5Until seven times: 3but, 1Until seventy times seven. 423Therefore 1is the kingdom of heaven 5likened unto a certain king, 5which would take account of his servants. 724And when he had begun to reckon, 7one was brought unto him, 5which owed him 3ten thousand 10000talents. 125But forasmuch 2as he had not to pay, 6his lord commanded him to be sold, 7and his wife, 3and children, 3and all that he had, 5and payment to be made. 526The servant therefore 3fell down, 2and worshipped him, 3saying, 1Lord, 1have patience with me, 4and I will pay thee all. 627Then the lord of that servant 6was moved with compassion, 4and loosed him, 3and forgave him the debt. 528But the same servant went out, 6and found one of his fellow servants, 7

which owed him 3an hundred 100pence: 1and he laid hands on him, 6and took him by the throat, 6saying, 1Pay me that thou owest. 529And his fellow servant 4fell down at his feet, 5and besought him, 3saying, 1Have patience with me, 4and I will pay thee all. 630And he would not: 4but went 2and cast him into prison, 5till he should pay the debt. 631So when his fellow servants 5saw what was done, 4they were very sorry, 4and came 2and told unto their lord 5all that was done. 432Then his lord, 3after that he had called him, 6said unto him, 3O thou wicked servant, 4I forgave thee all that debt, 6because thou desiredst me: 433Shouldest not thou also 4have had compassion on thy fellow servant, 7even as I had pity on thee? 734And his lord was wroth, 5and delivered him to the tormentors, 6till he should pay 4all that was due unto him. 635So likewise shall my heavenly Father 6do also unto you, 4if ye from your hearts 5forgive not every one his brother their trespasses. 8

191And it came to pass, 5that when Jesus had finished these sayings, 7

he departed from Galilee, 4and came into the coasts of Judaea 7beyond Jordan; 22And great multitudes followed him; 5and he healed them there. 5

3The Pharisees also came unto him, 6tempting him, 2and saying unto him, 4Is it lawful for a man 6to put away his wife for every cause? 84And he answered 3and said unto them, 4Have ye not read, 4that he which made them at the beginning 8made them male 3and female, 25And said, 2For this cause shall a man leave father 8and mother, 2and shall cleave to his wife: 6and they twain shall be one flesh? 76Wherefore 1they are no more twain, 5but one flesh. 3What therefore 2God hath joined together, 4let not man put asunder. 57They say unto him, 4Why did Moses then command 5to give a writing of divorcement, 6and to put her away? 58He saith unto them, 4Moses because of the hardness of your hearts 8suffered you to put away your wives: 7but from the beginning it was not so. 89And I say unto you, 5Whosoever shall put away his wife, 6except it be for fornication, 5and shall marry another, 4committeth adultery: 2and whoso marrieth her which is put away 8doth commit adultery. 310His disciples say unto him, 5If the case of the man 6be so with his wife, 5it is not good to marry. 611But he said unto them, 5All men cannot receive this saying, 6save they to whom it is given. 712For there are some eunuchs, 5which were so born from their mother’s womb: 8and there are some eunuchs, 5which were made eunuchs of men: 6and there be eunuchs, 4

which have made themselves eunuchs 5for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. 6He that is able to receive it, 7let him receive it. 413Then were there brought unto him little children, 8that he should put his hands on them, 8and pray: 2and the disciples rebuked them. 514But Jesus said, 3Suffer little children, 3and forbid them not, 4to come unto me: 4for of such is the kingdom of heaven. 815And he laid his hands on them, 7and departed thence. 316And, 1behold, 1one came 2and said unto him, 4Good Master, 2what good thing shall I do, 6that I may have eternal life? 617And he said unto him, 5Why callest thou me good? 5there is none good but one, 6that is, 2God: 1but if thou wilt enter into life, 7keep the commandments. 318He saith unto him, 4Which? 1Jesus said, 2Thou shalt do no murder, 5Thou shalt not commit adultery, 5Thou shalt not steal, 4Thou shalt not bear false witness, 619Honour thy father 3and thy mother: 3and, 1Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 720The young man saith unto him, 6All these things have I kept 6from my youth up: 4what lack I yet? 421Jesus said unto him, 4If thou wilt be perfect, 5go 1and sell that thou hast, 5and give to the poor, 5

and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: 7and come 2and follow me. 322But when the young man heard that saying, 8he went away sorrowful: 4for he had great possessions. 523Then said Jesus unto his disciples, 6Verily I say unto you, 5That a rich man shall hardly enter into 8the kingdom of heaven. 424And again I say unto you, 6It is easier for a camel 6to go through the eye of a needle, 8than for a rich man 5to enter into the kingdom of God. 725When his disciples heard it, 5they were exceedingly amazed, 4saying, 1Who then can be saved? 526But Jesus beheld them, 4and said unto them, 4With men this is impossible; 5but with God all things are possible. 727Then answered Peter 3and said unto him, 4Behold, 1we have forsaken all, 4and followed thee; 3what shall we have therefore? 528And Jesus said unto them, 5Verily I say unto you, 5That ye which have followed me, 6in the regeneration 3when the Son of man 5shall sit in the throne of his glory, 8ye also shall sit upon 5

twelve 12thrones, 1judging the 2twelve 12tribes of Israel. 329And every one that hath forsaken houses, 7or brethren, 2or sisters, 2or father, 2or mother, 2or wife, 2or children, 2or lands, 2for my name’s sake, 4shall receive 2an hundred 100fold, 1and shall inherit everlasting life. 530But many that are first shall be last; 8and the last shall be first. 6

201For the kingdom of heaven 5is like unto a man 5that is an householder, 4

which went out early in the morning 7to hire labourers into his vineyard. 62And when he had agreed with the labourers 8for a penny a day, 5he sent them into his vineyard. 63And he went out about the third hour, 8and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 84And said unto them; 4Go ye also into the vineyard, 6and whatsoever is right I will give you. 8And they went their way. 55Again he went out about the sixth 7and ninth hour, 3and did likewise. 36And about the 3eleventh 11hour he went out, 4and found others standing idle, 5and saith unto them, 4Why stand ye here all the day idle? 87They say unto him, 4Because no man hath hired us. 6He saith unto them, 4

But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Go ye also into the vineyard; 6and whatsoever is right, 4that shall ye receive. 48So when even was come, 5the lord of the vineyard 5saith unto his steward, 4Call the labourers, 3and give them their hire, 5beginning from the last unto the first. 79And when they came 4that were hired about the 5eleventh 11hour, 1they received every man a penny. 610But when the first came, 5they supposed that they should have received more; 8and they likewise received every man a penny. 811And when they had received it, 6they murmured against 3the good man of the house, 612Saying, 1These last have wrought but one hour, 7and thou hast made them equal unto us, 8which have borne the burden 5and heat of the day. 513But he answered one of them, 6and said, 2Friend, 1I do thee no wrong: 5didst not thou agree with me 6for a penny? 314Take that thine is, 4and go thy way: 4I will give unto this last, 6even as unto thee. 415Is it not lawful for me 6to do what I will with mine own? 8Is thine eye evil, 4because I am good? 416So the last shall be first, 6and the first last: 4for many be called, 4but few chosen. 317And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the 8twelve 12disciples 1apart in the way, 4and said unto them, 4

18Behold, 1we go up to Jerusalem; 5and the Son of man 5shall be betrayed unto the chief priests 7and unto the scribes, 4and they shall condemn him to death, 719And shall deliver him 4to the Gentiles to mock, 5and to scourge, 3and to crucify him: 4and the third day he shall rise again. 820Then came to him 4the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, 8worshipping him, 2and desiring a certain thing of him. 721And he said unto her, 5What wilt thou? 3She saith unto him, 4Grant that these my two sons may sit, 8the one on thy right hand, 6and the other on the left, 6in thy kingdom. 322But Jesus answered 3and said, 2Ye know not what ye ask. 6Are ye able to drink of the cup 8that I shall drink of, 5and to be baptized with the baptism 7that I am baptized with? 5They say unto him, 4We are able. 323And he saith unto them, 5Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, 7and be baptized with the baptism 6that I am baptized with: 5but to sit on my right hand, 7and on my left, 4is not mine to give, 5but it shall be given to them 7for whom it is prepared of my Father. 824And when the ten heard it, 6they were moved with indignation 5against the two brethren. 425But Jesus called them unto him, 6and said, 2Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles 8exercise dominion over them, 4and they that are great 5exercise authority upon them. 4

26But it shall not be so among you: 8but whosoever will be great among you, 7let him be your minister; 527And whosoever will be chief among you, 7let him be your servant: 528Even as the Son of man 6came not to be ministered unto, 6but to minister, 3and to give his life 5a ransom for many. 429And as they departed from Jericho, 6a great multitude followed him. 530And, 1behold, 1two blind men sitting 4by the way side, 4when they heard that Jesus passed by, 7cried out, 2saying, 1Have mercy on us, 4O Lord, 2thou Son of David. 431And the multitude rebuked them, 5because they should hold their peace: 6but they cried the more, 5saying, 1Have mercy on us, 4O Lord, 2thou Son of David. 432And Jesus stood still, 4and called them, 3and said, 2What will ye 3that I shall do unto you? 633They say unto him, 4Lord, 1that our eyes may be opened. 634So Jesus had compassion on them, 6and touched their eyes: 4and immediately their eyes received sight, 6and they followed him. 4

211And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, 7and were come to Bethphage, 5

unto the mount of Olives, 5then sent Jesus two disciples, 52Saying unto them, 3Go into the village over against you, 7and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, 8

and a colt with her: 5loose them, 2and bring them unto me. 53And if any man say ought unto you, 8ye shall say, 3The Lord hath need of them; 6and straightway he will send them. 64All this was done, 4that it might be fulfilled 5which was spoken by the prophet, 6saying, 15Tell ye the daughter of Sion, 6Behold, 1thy King cometh unto thee, 5meek, 1and sitting upon an ass, 5and a colt the foal of an ass. 86And the disciples went, 4and did as Jesus commanded them, 67And brought the ass, 4and the colt, 3and put on them their clothes, 6and they set him thereon. 58And a very great multitude 5spread their garments in the way; 6others cut down branches from the trees, 7and strawed them in the way. 69And the multitudes that went before, 6and that followed, 3cried, 1saying, 1Hosanna to the Son of David: 6Blessed is he that cometh 5in the name of the Lord; 6Hosanna in the highest. 410And when he was come into Jerusalem, 7all the city was moved, 5saying, 1Who is this? 311And the multitude said, 4This is Jesus the prophet 5of Nazareth of Galilee. 412And Jesus went into the temple of God, 8and cast out all them that sold 7and bought in the temple, 5and overthrew the tables of the money changers, 8and the seats of them that sold doves, 813And said unto them, 4It is written, 3

My house shall be called 5the house of prayer; 4but ye have made it 5a den of thieves. 414And the blind 3and the lame came to him 6in the temple; 3and he healed them. 415And when the chief priests 5and scribes saw the wonderful things 6that he did, 3and the children crying in the temple, 7and saying, 2Hosanna to the Son of David; 6they were sore displeased, 416And said unto him, 4Hearest thou what these say? 5And Jesus saith unto them, 5Yea; 1have ye never read, 4Out of the mouth of babes 6and sucklings thou hast perfected praise? 617And he left them, 4and went out of the city into Bethany; 8and he lodged there. 418Now in the morning 4as he returned into the city, 6he hungered. 219And when he saw 4a fig tree in the way, 6he came to it, 4and found nothing thereon, 4but leaves only, 3and said unto it, 4Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward forever. 8And presently the fig tree withered away. 720And when the disciples saw it, 6they marvelled, 2saying, 1How soon is the fig tree withered away! 821Jesus answered 2and said unto them, 4Verily I say unto you, 5If ye have faith, 4and doubt not, 3ye shall not only do this 6which is done to the fig tree, 7but also if ye shall say 6unto this mountain, 3

Be thou removed, 3and be thou cast into the sea; 7it shall be done. 422And all things, 3whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, 6believing, 1ye shall receive. 323And when he was come into the temple, 8the chief priests 3and the elders of the people 6came unto him as he was teaching, 7and said, 2By what authority doest thou these things? 7and who gave thee this authority? 624And Jesus answered 3and said unto them, 4I also will ask you one thing, 7which if ye tell me, 5I in like wise will tell you 7by what authority I do these things. 725The baptism of John, 4whence was it? 3from heaven, 2or of men? 3And they reasoned with themselves, 5saying, 1If we shall say, 4From heaven; 2he will say unto us, 5Why did ye not then believe him? 726But if we shall say, 5Of men; 2we fear the people; 4for all hold John as a prophet. 727And they answered Jesus, 4and said, 2We cannot tell. 3And he said unto them, 5Neither tell I you 4by what authority I do these things. 728But what think ye? 4A certain man had two sons; 6and he came to the first, 6and said, 2Son, 1go work today in my vineyard. 629He answered 2and said, 2I will not: 3but afterward he repented, 4

and went. 230And he came to the second, 6and said likewise. 3And he answered 3and said, 2I go, 2sir: 1and went not. 331Whether of them twain 4did the will of his father? 6They say unto him, 4The first. 2Jesus saith unto them, 4Verily I say unto you, 5That the publicans 3and the harlots 3go into the kingdom of God before you. 832For John came unto you 5in the way of righteousness, 5and ye believed him not: 5but the publicans 3and the harlots believed him: 5and ye, 2when ye had seen it, 5repented not afterward, 3that ye might believe him. 533Hear another parable: 3There was a certain householder, 5which planted a vineyard, 4and hedged it round about, 5and digged a winepress in it, 6and built a tower, 4and let it out to husbandmen, 6and went into a far country: 634And when the time 4of the fruit drew near, 5he sent his servants to the husbandmen, 7that they might receive the fruits of it. 835And the husbandmen took his servants, 6and beat one, 3and killed another, 3and stoned another. 336Again, 1he sent other servants more than the first: 8and they did unto them likewise. 637But last of all 4he sent unto them his son, 6saying, 1They will reverence my son. 538But when the husbandmen saw the son, 7

they said among themselves, 4This is the heir; 4come, 1let us kill him, 4and let us seize on his inheritance. 739And they caught him, 4and cast him out of the vineyard, 7and slew him. 340When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, 8what will he do unto those husbandmen? 741They say unto him, 4He will miserably destroy those wicked men, 7and will let out his vineyard 6unto other husbandmen, 3which shall render him 4the fruits in their seasons. 542Jesus saith unto them, 4Did ye never read in the scriptures, 7The stone which the builders rejected, 6the same is become 4the head of the corner: 5this is the Lord’s doing, 5and it is marvellous in our eyes? 743Therefore 1say I unto you, 4The kingdom of God 4shall be taken from you, 5and given to a nation 5bringing forth the fruits thereof. 544And whosoever shall fall on this stone 7shall be broken: 3but on whomsoever it shall fall, 6it will grind him to powder. 645And when the chief priests 5and Pharisees had heard his parables, 6they perceived that he spake of them. 746But when they sought 4to lay hands on him, 5they feared the multitude, 4because they took him for a prophet. 7

221And Jesus answered 3and spake unto them again by parables, 7

and said, 22The kingdom of heaven 4is like unto a certain king, 6which made a marriage for his son, 73And sent forth his servants 5

to call them that were bidden 6to the wedding: 3and they would not come. 54Again, 1he sent forth other servants, 5saying, 1Tell them which are bidden, 5Behold, 1I have prepared my dinner: 5my oxen 2and my fatlings are killed, 5and all things are ready: 5come unto the marriage. 45But they made light of it, 6and went their ways, 4one to his farm, 4another to his merchandise: 46And the remnant took his servants, 6and entreated them spitefully, 4and slew them. 37But when the king heard thereof, 6he was wroth: 3and he sent forth his armies, 6and destroyed those murderers, 4and burned up their city. 58Then saith he to his servants, 6The wedding is ready, 4but they which were bidden were not worthy. 89Go ye therefore 3into the highways, 3and as many as ye shall find, 7bid to the marriage. 410So those servants went out into the highways, 8and gathered together 3all as many as they found, 6both bad 2and good: 2and the wedding was furnished with guests. 711And when the king 4came in to see the guests, 6he saw there a man 5which had not on a wedding garment: 712And he saith unto him, 5Friend, 1how camest thou in hither 5not having a wedding garment? 5And he was speechless. 413Then said the king to the servants, 7Bind him hand 3

and foot, 2and take him away, 4and cast him into outer darkness; 6there shall be weeping 4and gnashing of teeth. 414For many are called, 4but few are chosen. 415Then went the Pharisees, 4and took counsel 3how they might entangle him in his talk. 816And they sent out unto him 6their disciples with the Herodians, 5saying, 1Master, 1we know that thou art true, 6and teachest the way of God in truth, 8neither carest thou for any man: 6for thou regardest not the person of men. 817Tell us therefore, 3What thinkest thou? 3Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, 8or not? 218But Jesus perceived their wickedness, 5and said, 2Why tempt ye me, 4ye hypocrites? 219Shew me the tribute money. 5And they brought unto him a penny. 720And he saith unto them, 5Whose is this image 4and superscription? 221They say unto him, 4Caesar’s. 1Then saith he unto them, 5Render therefore 2unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; 7and unto God the things that are God’s. 822When they had heard these words, 6they marvelled, 2and left him, 3and went their way. 423The same day came to him the Sadducees, 8which say that there is no resurrection, 7and asked him, 324Saying, 1Master, 1Moses said, 2If a man die, 4having no children, 3

his brother shall marry his wife, 6and raise up seed unto his brother. 725Now there were with us seven brethren: 7and the first, 3when he had married a wife, 6deceased, 1and, 1having no issue, 3left his wife unto his brother: 626Likewise the second also, 4and the third, 3unto the seventh. 327And last of all the woman died also. 828Therefore 1in the resurrection 3whose wife shall she be of the seven? 8for they all had her. 529Jesus answered 2and said unto them, 4Ye do err, 3not knowing the scriptures, 4nor the power of God. 530For in the resurrection they neither marry, 7nor are given in marriage, 5but are as 3the angels of God in heaven. 631But as touching the resurrection of the dead, 8have ye not read 4that which was spoken unto you by God, 8saying, 132I am the God of Abraham, 6and the God of Isaac, 5and the God of Jacob? 5God is not the God of the dead, 8but of the living. 4

33And when the multitude heard this, 6they were astonished at his doctrine. 634But when the Pharisees had heard 6that he had put the Sadducees to silence, 8they were gathered together. 435Then one of them, 4which was a lawyer, 4asked him a question, 4tempting him, 2and saying, 236Master, 1which is the great commandment in the law? 837Jesus said unto him, 4Thou shalt love the Lord thy God 7with all thy heart, 4and with all thy soul, 5and with all thy mind. 538This is the first 4and great commandment. 339And the second is like unto it, 7Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 740On these two commandments hang all the law 8and the prophets. 341While the Pharisees were gathered together, 6Jesus asked them, 342Saying, 1What think ye of Christ? 5whose son is he? 4They say unto him, 4The Son of David. 443He saith unto them, 4How then doth David in spirit 6call him Lord, 3saying, 144The LORD said unto my Lord, 6Sit thou on my right hand, 6till I make thine enemies thy footstool? 745If David then call him Lord, 6how is he his son? 546And no man 3was able to answer him a word, 7neither durst any man 4from that day forth 4ask him any more questions. 5

231Then spake Jesus to the multitude, 6and to his disciples, 4

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God

with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

2Saying, 1The scribes 2and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat: 73All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, 7that observe 2and do; 2but do not ye after their works: 7for they say, 3and do not. 34For they bind heavy burdens 5and grievous to be borne, 5and lay them on men’s shoulders; 6but they themselves will not move them 7with one of their fingers. 55But all their works they do 6for to be seen of men: 6they make broad their phylacteries, 5and enlarge the borders of their garments, 76And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, 7and the chief seats in the synagogues, 77And greetings in the markets, 5and to be called of men, 6Rabbi, 1Rabbi. 18But be not ye called Rabbi: 6for one is your Master, 5even Christ; 2and all ye are brethren. 59And call no man your father 6upon the earth: 3for one is your Father, 5which is in heaven. 410Neither be ye called masters: 5for one is your Master, 5even Christ. 211But he that is greatest among you 7shall be your servant. 412And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; 8and he that shall humble himself 6shall be exalted. 313But woe unto you, 4scribes 1and Pharisees, 2hypocrites! 1for ye shut up 4the kingdom of heaven against men: 6for ye neither go in yourselves, 6neither suffer ye them 4

that are entering to go in. 614Woe unto you, 3scribes 1and Pharisees, 2hypocrites! 1for ye devour widows’ houses, 5and for a pretence make long prayer: 7therefore 1ye shall receive the greater damnation. 615Woe unto you, 3scribes 1and Pharisees, 2hypocrites! 1for ye compass sea 4and land to make one proselyte, 6and when he is made, 5ye make him twofold more 5the child of hell than yourselves. 616Woe unto you, 3ye blind guides, 3which say, 2Whosoever shall swear by the temple, 6it is nothing; 3but whosoever shall swear 4by the gold of the temple, 6he is a debtor! 417Ye fools 2and blind: 2for whether is greater, 4the gold, 2or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? 718And, 1Whosoever shall swear by the altar, 6it is nothing; 3but whosoever sweareth by the gift 6that is upon it, 4he is guilty. 319Ye fools 2and blind: 2for whether is greater, 4the gift, 2or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? 720Whoso therefore 2shall swear by the altar, 5sweareth by it, 3and by all things thereon. 521And whoso shall swear by the temple, 7sweareth by it, 3and by him that dwelleth therein. 622And he that shall swear by heaven, 7

sweareth by the throne of God, 6and by him that sitteth thereon. 623Woe unto you, 3scribes 1and Pharisees, 2hypocrites! 1for ye pay tithe of mint 6and anise 2and cummin, 2and have omitted the weightier matters 6of the law, 3judgment, 1mercy, 1and faith: 2these ought ye to have done, 6and not to leave the other undone. 724Ye blind guides, 3which strain at a gnat, 5and swallow a camel. 425Woe unto you, 3scribes 1and Pharisees, 2hypocrites! 1for ye make clean 4the outside of the cup 5and of the platter, 4but within they are full of extortion 7and excess. 226Thou blind Pharisee, 3cleanse first that which is within the cup 8and platter, 2that the outside of them 5may be clean also. 427Woe unto you, 3scribes 1and Pharisees, 2hypocrites! 1for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, 7which indeed appear beautiful outward, 5but are within full of dead men’s bones, 8and of all uncleanness. 428Even so ye also 4outwardly appear righteous unto men, 5but within ye are full of hypocrisy 7and iniquity. 229Woe unto you, 3scribes 1and Pharisees, 2hypocrites! 1because ye build the tombs of the prophets, 8

and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous, 730And say, 2If we had been 4in the days of our fathers, 6we would not have been partakers with them 8in the blood of the prophets. 631Wherefore 1ye be witnesses unto yourselves, 5that ye are the children of them 7which killed the prophets. 432Fill ye up then 4the measure of your fathers. 533Ye serpents, 2ye generation of vipers, 4how can ye escape the damnation of hell? 834Wherefore, 1behold, 1I send unto you prophets, 5and wise men, 3and scribes: 2and some of them ye shall kill 7and crucify; 2and some of them 4shall ye scourge in your synagogues, 6and persecute them from city to city: 735That upon you may come 5all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, 8from the blood of righteous Abel 6unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, 8whom ye slew between the temple 6and the altar. 336Verily I say unto you, 5All these things shall come upon this generation. 837O Jerusalem, 2Jerusalem, 1thou that killest the prophets, 5and stonest them which are sent unto thee, 8how often would I have gathered 6thy children together, 3even as a hen gathereth her chickens 7under her wings, 3and ye would not! 438Behold, 1your house is left unto you desolate. 739For I say unto you, 5Ye shall not see me henceforth, 6till ye shall say, 4Blessed is he that cometh 5in the name of the Lord. 6

241And Jesus went out, 4and departed from the temple: 5and his disciples came to him 6

for to shew him 4the buildings of the temple. 52And Jesus said unto them, 5See ye not all these things? 6verily I say unto you, 5There shall not be left here 6one stone upon another, 4that shall not be thrown down. 63And as he sat 4upon the mount of Olives, 5the disciples came unto him privately, 6saying, 1Tell us, 2when shall these things be? 5and what shall be 4the sign of thy coming, 5and of the end of the world? 74And Jesus answered 3and said unto them, 4Take heed that no man deceive you. 75For many shall come in my name, 7saying, 1I am Christ; 3and shall deceive many. 46And ye shall hear of wars 6and rumours of wars: 4see that ye be not troubled: 6for all these things must come to pass, 8but the end is not yet. 67For nation shall rise against nation, 6and kingdom against kingdom: 4and there shall be famines, 5and pestilences, 2and earthquakes, 2in divers places. 38All these are the beginning of sorrows. 79Then shall they deliver you up 6to be afflicted, 3and shall kill you: 4and ye shall be hated of all nations 8for my name’s sake. 410And then shall many be offended, 6and shall betray one another, 5and shall hate one another. 511And many false prophets shall rise, 6and shall deceive many. 412And because iniquity shall abound, 5

the love of many shall wax cold. 713But he that shall endure unto the end, 8the same shall be saved. 514And this gospel of the kingdom 6shall be preached in all the world 7for a witness unto all nations; 6and then shall the end come. 615When ye therefore 3shall see the abomination of desolation, 6spoken of by Daniel the prophet, 6stand in the holy place, 5(whoso readeth, let him understand:) 516Then let them which be in Judaea 7flee into the mountains: 417Let him which is on the housetop 7not come down to take anything 6out of his house: 418Neither let him which is in the field 8return back to take his clothes. 619And woe unto them 4that are with child, 4and to them that give suck 6in those days! 320But pray ye that your flight 6be not in the winter, 5neither on the sabbath day: 521For then shall be great tribulation, 6such as was not since 5the beginning of the world to this time, 8no, 1nor ever shall be. 422And except those days should be shortened, 7there should no flesh be saved: 6but for the elect’s sake 5those days shall be shortened. 523Then if any man shall say unto you, 8Lo, 1here is Christ, 3or there; 2believe it not. 324For there shall arise false Christs, 6and false prophets, 3and shall shew great signs 5and wonders; 2insomuch that, 2if it were possible, 4they shall deceive the very elect. 625Behold, 1I have told you before. 526Wherefore 1

if they shall say unto you, 6Behold, 1he is in the desert; 5go not forth: 3behold, 1he is in the secret chambers; 6believe it not. 327For as the lightning 4cometh out of the east, 5and shineth even unto the west; 6so shall also the coming 5of the Son of man be. 628For wheresoever the carcase is, 5there will the eagles be gathered together. 729Immediately after the tribulation of those days 7shall the sun be darkened, 5and the moon shall not give her light, 8and the stars shall fall from heaven, 7and the powers of the heavens 6shall be shaken: 330And then shall appear the sign 6of the Son of man in heaven: 7and then shall all the tribes 6of the earth mourn, 4and they shall see the Son of man 8coming in the clouds of heaven with power 8and great glory. 331And he shall send his angels 6with a great sound of a trumpet, 7and they shall gather together his elect 7from the four winds, 4from one end of heaven to the other. 832Now learn a parable of the fig tree; 8When his branch is yet tender, 6and putteth forth leaves, 4ye know that summer is nigh: 633So likewise ye, 3when ye shall see all these things, 7know that it is near, 5even at the doors. 434Verily I say unto you, 5This generation shall not pass, 5till all these things be fulfilled. 635Heaven 1and earth shall pass away, 5but my words shall not pass away. 736But of that day 4and hour knoweth no man, 5no, 1

not the angels of heaven, 5but my Father only. 437But as the days of Noe were, 7so shall also 3the coming of the Son of man be. 838For as in the days 5that were before the flood they were eating 8and drinking, 2marrying 1and giving in marriage, 4until the day that Noe 5entered into the ark, 439And knew not until the flood came, 7and took them all away; 5so shall also 3the coming of the Son of man be. 840Then shall two be in the field; 7the one shall be taken, 5and the other left. 441Two women shall be grinding at the mill; 8the one shall be taken, 5and the other left. 442Watch therefore: 2for ye know not what hour 6your Lord doth come. 443But know this, 3that if the good man of the house 8had known in what watch 5the thief would come, 4he would have watched, 4and would not have suffered his house 7to be broken up. 444Therefore 1be ye also ready: 4for in such an hour 5as ye think not 4the Son of man cometh. 545Who then is a faithful 5and wise servant, 3whom his lord hath made ruler 6over his household, 3to give them meat in due season? 746Blessed is that servant, 4whom his lord when he cometh 6shall find so doing. 447Verily I say unto you, 5That he shall make him ruler 6over all his goods. 448But 1and if that evil servant 5

shall say in his heart, 5My lord delayeth his coming; 549And shall begin to smite his fellow servants, 8and to eat 3and drink with the drunken; 550The lord of that servant 5shall come in a day 5when he looketh not for him, 6and in an hour 4that he is not aware of, 651And shall cut him asunder, 5and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: 8there shall be weeping 4and gnashing of teeth. 4

251Then shall the kingdom of heaven 6be likened unto ten virgins, 5which took their lamps, 4

and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 72And five of them were wise, 6and five were foolish. 43They that were foolish took their lamps, 7and took no oil with them: 64But the wise took oil in their vessels 8with their lamps. 35While the bridegroom tarried, 4they all slumbered 3and slept. 26And at midnight there was a cry made, 8Behold, 1the bridegroom cometh; 3go ye out to meet him. 67Then all those virgins arose, 5and trimmed their lamps. 48And the foolish said unto the wise, 7Give us of your oil; 5for our lamps are gone out. 69But the wise answered, 4saying, 1Not so; 2lest there be not enough for us 7and you: 2but go ye rather to them that sell, 7and buy for yourselves. 510And while they went to buy, 6the bridegroom came; 3and they that were ready 5went in with him to the marriage: 7

and the door was shut. 511Afterward 1came also the other virgins, 5saying, 1Lord, 1Lord, 1open to us. 312But he answered 3and said, 2Verily I say unto you, 5I know you not. 413Watch therefore, 2for ye know neither the day 6nor the hour 3wherein the Son of man cometh. 614For the kingdom of heaven 5is as a man travelling 5into a far country, 4who called his own servants, 5and delivered unto them his goods. 615And unto one he gave five talents, 7to another two, 3and to another one; 4to every man according to his several ability; 8and straightway took his journey. 516Then he that had received 5the five talents went 4and traded with the same, 5and made them other five talents. 617And likewise he that had received two, 7he also gained other two. 518But he that had received one went 7and digged in the earth, 5and hid his lord’s money. 519After a long time 4the lord of those servants cometh, 6and reckoneth with them. 420And so he that had received 6five talents came 3and brought other five talents, 5saying, 1Lord, 1thou deliveredst unto me five talents: 6behold, 1I have gained beside them five talents more. 821His lord said unto him, 5Well done, 2thou good 2and faithful servant: 3thou hast been faithful over a few things, 8

I will make thee ruler over many things: 8enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 822He also that had received two talents came 8and said, 2Lord, 1thou deliveredst unto me two talents: 6behold, 1I have gained two other talents beside them. 823His lord said unto him, 5Well done, 2good 1and faithful servant; 3thou hast been faithful over a few things, 8I will make thee ruler over many things: 8enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 824Then he which had received 5the one talent came 4and said, 2Lord, 1I knew thee that thou 5art an hard man, 4reaping where thou hast not sown, 6and gathering where thou hast not strawed: 725And I was afraid, 4and went 2and hid thy talent in the earth: 7lo, 1there thou hast that is thine. 626His lord answered 3and said unto him, 4Thou wicked 2and slothful servant, 3thou knewest that I reap 5where I sowed not, 4and gather where I have not strawed: 727Thou oughtest therefore 3to have put my money to the exchangers, 8and then at my coming 5I should have received mine own with usury. 828Take therefore 2the talent from him, 4and give it unto him 5which hath ten talents. 429For unto every one that hath 6shall be given, 3and he shall have abundance: 5but from him that hath not 6shall be taken away 4even that which he hath. 5

30And cast ye the unprofitable servant 6into outer darkness: 3there shall be weeping 4and gnashing of teeth. 431When the Son of man 5shall come in his glory, 5and all the holy angels with him, 7then shall he sit 4upon the throne of his glory: 632And before him shall be gathered all nations: 8and he shall separate them one from another, 8as a shepherd divideth his sheep 6from the goats: 333And he shall set the sheep 6on his right hand, 4but the goats on the left. 634Then shall the King say unto them 7on his right hand, 4Come, 1ye blessed of my Father, 5inherit the kingdom prepared for you 6from the foundation of the world: 635For I was an hungred, 5and ye gave me meat: 5I was thirsty, 3and ye gave me drink: 5I was a stranger, 4and ye took me in: 536Naked, 1and ye clothed me: 4I was sick, 3and ye visited me: 4I was in prison, 4and ye came unto me. 537Then shall the righteous answer him, 6saying, 1Lord, 1when saw we thee an hungred, 6and fed thee? 3or thirsty, 2and gave thee drink? 438When saw we thee a stranger, 6and took thee in? 4or naked, 2and clothed thee? 339Or when saw we thee sick, 6or in prison, 3and came unto thee? 440And the King shall answer 5

and say unto them, 4Verily I say unto you, 5Inasmuch as ye have done it 6unto one of the least of these 7my brethren, 2ye have done it unto me. 641Then shall he say also unto them 7on the left hand, 4Depart from me, 3ye cursed, 2into everlasting fire, 3prepared for the devil 4and his angels: 342For I was an hungred, 5and ye gave me no meat: 6I was thirsty, 3and ye gave me no drink: 643I was a stranger, 4and ye took me not in: 6naked, 1and ye clothed me not: 5sick, 1and in prison, 3and ye visited me not. 544Then shall they also answer him, 6saying, 1Lord, 1when saw we thee an hungred, 6or athirst, 2or a stranger, 3or naked, 2or sick, 2or in prison, 3and did not minister unto thee? 645Then shall he answer them, 5saying, 1Verily I say unto you, 5Inasmuch as ye did it not 6to one of the least of these, 7ye did it not to me. 646And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: 8but the righteous into life eternal. 6

261And it came to pass, 5when Jesus had finished all these sayings, 7

he said unto his disciples, 52Ye know that after two days 6is the feast of the passover, 6

and the Son of man 5is betrayed to be crucified. 53Then assembled together the chief priests, 6and the scribes, 3and the elders of the people, 6unto the palace of the high priest, 7who was called Caiaphas, 44And consulted 2that they might take Jesus by subtilty, 7and kill him. 35But they said, 3Not on the feast day, 5lest there be an uproar among the people. 86Now when Jesus was in Bethany, 6in the house of Simon the leper, 77There came unto him a woman 6having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, 8and poured it on his head, 6as he sat at meat. 58But when his disciples saw it, 6they had indignation, 3saying, 1To what purpose is this waste? 69For this ointment 3might have been sold for much, 6and given to the poor. 510When Jesus understood it, 4he said unto them, 4Why trouble ye the woman? 5for she hath wrought 4a good work upon me. 511For ye have the poor always with you; 8but me ye have not always. 612For in that she hath poured this ointment 8on my body, 3she did it for my burial. 613Verily I say unto you, 5Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached 6in the whole world, 4there shall also this, 4that this woman hath done, 5be told for a memorial of her. 714Then one of the 4twelve, 12called Judas Iscariot, 3went unto the chief priests, 515And said unto them, 4What will ye give me, 5

and I will deliver him unto you? 7And they covenanted with him for 6thirty 30pieces of silver. 316And from that time 4he sought opportunity to betray him. 617Now the first day 4of the feast 3of unleavened bread 3the disciples came to Jesus, 5saying unto him, 3Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee 8to eat the passover? 418And he said, 3Go into the city to such a man, 8and say unto him, 4The Master saith, 3My time is at hand; 5I will keep the passover at thy house 8with my disciples. 319And the disciples 3did as Jesus had appointed them; 6and they made ready the passover. 620Now when the even was come, 6he sat down with the 5twelve. 1221And as they did eat, 5he said, 2Verily I say unto you, 5that one of you shall betray me. 722And they were exceeding sorrowful, 5and began every one of them 6to say unto him, 4Lord, 1is it I? 323And he answered 3and said, 2He that dippeth his hand with me 7in the dish, 3the same shall betray me. 524The Son of man goeth 5as it is written of him: 6but woe unto that man 5by whom the Son of man is betrayed! 8it had been good for that man 7if he had not been born. 625Then Judas, 2which betrayed him, 3answered 1and said, 2

Master, 1is it I? 3He said unto him, 4Thou hast said. 326And as they were eating, 5Jesus took bread, 3and blessed it, 3and brake it, 3and gave it to the disciples, 6and said, 2Take, 1eat; 1this is my body. 427And he took the cup, 5and gave thanks, 3and gave it to them, 5saying, 1Drink ye all of it; 528For this is my blood 5of the new testament, 4which is shed for many 5for the remission of sins. 529But I say unto you, 5I will not drink henceforth 5of this fruit 3of the vine, 3until that day when I drink it new 8with you in my Father’s kingdom. 630And when they had sung an hymn, 7they went out into the mount of Olives. 831Then saith Jesus unto them, 5All ye shall be offended 5because of me this night: 5for it is written, 4I will smite the shepherd, 5and the sheep of the flock 6shall be scattered abroad. 432But after I am risen again, 6I will go before you into Galilee. 733Peter answered 2and said unto him, 4Though all men shall be offended 6because of thee, 3yet will I never be offended. 634Jesus said unto him, 4Verily I say unto thee, 5That this night, 3before the cock crow, 4thou shalt deny me thrice. 535Peter said unto him, 4

Though I should die with thee, 6yet will I not deny thee. 6Likewise also said all the disciples. 636Then cometh Jesus with them 5unto a place called Gethsemane, 5and saith unto the disciples, 5Sit ye here, 3while I go 3and pray yonder. 337And he took with him Peter 6and the two sons of Zebedee, 6and began to be sorrowful 5and very heavy. 338Then saith he unto them, 5My soul is exceeding sorrowful, 5even unto death: 3tarry ye here, 3and watch with me. 439And he went a little further, 6and fell on his face, 5and prayed, 2saying, 1O my Father, 3if it be possible, 4let this cup pass from me: 6nevertheless 1not as I will, 4but as thou wilt. 440And he cometh unto the disciples, 6and findeth them asleep, 4and saith unto Peter, 4What, 1could ye not watch with me one hour? 841Watch 1and pray, 2that ye enter not into temptation: 6the spirit indeed is willing, 5but the flesh is weak. 542He went away again the second time, 7and prayed, 2saying, 1O my Father, 3if this cup 3may not pass away from me, 6except I drink it, 4thy will be done. 443And he came 3and found them asleep again: 5for their eyes were heavy. 544And he left them, 4

and went away again, 4and prayed the third time, 5saying the same words. 445Then cometh he to his disciples, 6and saith unto them, 4Sleep on now, 3and take your rest: 4behold, 1the hour is at hand, 5and the Son of man is betrayed 7into the hands of sinners. 546Rise, 1let us be going: 4behold, 1he is at hand that doth betray me. 847And while he yet spake, 5lo, 1Judas, 1one of the 3twelve, 12came, 1and with him a great multitude with swords 8and staves, 2from the chief priests 4and elders of the people. 548Now he that betrayed him 5gave them a sign, 4saying, 1Whomsoever I shall kiss, 4that same is he: 4hold him fast. 349And forthwith he came to Jesus, 6and said, 2Hail, 1master; 1and kissed him. 350And Jesus said unto him, 5Friend, 1wherefore art thou come? 4Then came they, 3and laid hands on Jesus, 5and took him. 351And, 1behold, 1one of them which were with Jesus 7stretched out his hand, 4and drew his sword, 4and struck a servant of the high priest’s, 8and smote off his ear. 552Then said Jesus unto him, 5

Put up again thy sword into his place: 8for all they that take the sword 7shall perish with the sword. 553Thinkest thou that I cannot now 6pray to my Father, 4and he shall presently give me more than 8twelve 12legions of angels? 354But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, 8that thus it must be? 555In that same hour 4said Jesus to the multitudes, 5Are ye come out 4as against a thief with swords 6and staves for to take me? 6I sat daily with you teaching 6in the temple, 3and ye laid no hold on me. 756But all this was done, 5that the scriptures of the prophets 6might be fulfilled. 3Then all the disciples forsook him, 6and fled. 257And they that had laid hold on Jesus 8led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, 8where the scribes 3and the elders were assembled. 558But Peter followed him afar off 6unto the high priest’s palace, 5and went in, 3and sat with the servants, 5to see the end. 459Now the chief priests, 4and elders, 2and all the council, 4sought false witness against Jesus, 5to put him to death; 560But found none: 3yea, 1though many false witnesses came, 5yet found they none. 4At the last came two false witnesses, 761And said, 2This fellow said, 3I am able to destroy 5the temple of God, 4and to build it in three days. 762And the high priest arose, 5and said unto him, 4

Answerest thou nothing? 3what is it which these witness against thee? 863But Jesus held his peace. 5And the high priest answered 5and said unto him, 4I adjure thee by the living God, 7that thou tell us 4whether thou be the Christ, 5the Son of God. 464Jesus saith unto him, 4Thou hast said: 3nevertheless 1I say unto you, 4Hereafter shall ye see 4the Son of man sitting 5on the right hand of power, 6and coming in the clouds of heaven. 765Then the high priest rent his clothes, 7saying, 1He hath spoken blasphemy; 4what further need have we of witnesses? 7behold, 1now ye have heard his blasphemy. 666What think ye? 3They answered 2and said, 2He is guilty of death. 567Then did they spit in his face, 7and buffeted him; 3and others smote him 4with the palms of their hands, 668Saying, 1Prophesy unto us, 3thou Christ, 2Who is he that smote thee? 669Now Peter sat without in the palace: 7and a damsel came unto him, 6saying, 1Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. 770But he denied before them all, 6saying, 1I know not what thou sayest. 671And when he was gone out 6into the porch, 3another maid saw him, 4and said unto them that were there, 7This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. 872And again he denied with an oath, 7I do not know the man. 673And after a while came unto him 7

they that stood by, 4and said to Peter, 4Surely thou also art one of them; 7for thy speech bewrayeth thee. 574Then began he to curse 5and to swear, 3saying, 1I know not the man. 5And immediately the cock crew. 575And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, 7which said unto him, 4Before the cock crow, 4thou shalt deny me thrice. 5And he went out, 4and wept bitterly. 3

271When the morning was come, 5all the chief priests 4and elders of the people 5

took counsel against Jesus 4to put him to death: 52And when they had bound him, 6they led him away, 4and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor. 83Then Judas, 2which had betrayed him, 4when he saw that he was condemned, 7repented himself, 2and brought again the 4thirty 30pieces of silver to the chief priests 7and elders, 24Saying, 1I have sinned in that I have betrayed 8the innocent blood. 3And they said, 3What is that to us? 5see thou to that. 45And he cast down the pieces of silver 8in the temple, 3and departed, 2and went 2and hanged himself. 36And the chief priests took the silver pieces, 8and said, 2It is not lawful 4for to put them into the treasury, 7because it is the price of blood. 77And they took counsel, 4

and bought with them the potter’s field, 7to bury strangers in. 48Wherefore 1that field was called, 4The field of blood, 4unto this day. 39Then was fulfilled 3that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, 8saying, 1And they took the 4thirty 30pieces of silver, 3the price of him that was valued, 7whom they of the children of Israel 7did value; 210And gave them for the potter’s field, 7as the Lord appointed me. 511And Jesus stood before the governor: 6and the governor asked him, 5saying, 1Art thou the King of the Jews? 7And Jesus said unto him, 5Thou sayest. 212And when he was accused 5of the chief priests 4and elders, 2he answered nothing. 313Then said Pilate unto him, 5Hearest thou not how many things 6they witness against thee? 414And he answered him to never a word; 8insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly. 615Now at that feast 4the governor was wont to release 6unto the people a prisoner, 5whom they would. 316And they had then a notable prisoner, 7called Barabbas. 217Therefore 1when they were gathered together, 5Pilate said unto them, 4Whom will ye that I release unto you? 8Barabbas, 1or Jesus which is called Christ? 618For he knew that for envy 6they had delivered him. 419When he was set down 5on the judgment seat, 4his wife sent unto him, 5saying, 1

MATTHEW - 64 -

Have thou nothing to do 5with that just man: 4for I have suffered many things this day 8in a dream because of him. 620But the chief priests 4and elders persuaded the multitude 5that they should ask Barabbas, 5and destroy Jesus. 321The governor answered 3and said unto them, 4Whether of the twain 4will ye that I release unto you? 7They said, 2Barabbas. 122Pilate saith unto them, 4What shall I do then 5with Jesus which is called Christ? 6They all say unto him, 5Let him be crucified. 423And the governor said, 4Why, 1what evil hath he done? 5But they cried out the more, 6saying, 1Let him be crucified. 424When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, 8but that rather a tumult was made, 7he took water, 3and washed his hands before the multitude, 7saying, 1I am innocent 3of the blood 3of this just person: 4see ye to it. 425Then answered all the people, 5and said, 2His blood be on us, 5and on our children. 426Then released he Barabbas unto them: 6and when he had scourged Jesus, 6he delivered him to be crucified. 627Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus 8into the common hall, 4and gathered unto him 4the whole band of soldiers. 528And they stripped him, 4and put on him a scarlet robe. 729And when they had platted 5

a crown of thorns, 4they put it upon his head, 6and a reed in his right hand: 7and they bowed the knee before him, 7and mocked him, 3saying, 1Hail, 1King of the Jews! 430And they spit upon him, 5and took the reed, 4and smote him on the head. 631And after that they had mocked him, 7they took the robe off from him, 7and put his own raiment on him, 7and led him away to crucify him. 732And as they came out, 5they found a man of Cyrene, 6Simon by name: 3him they compelled to bear his cross. 733And when they were come 5unto a place called Golgotha, 5that is to say, 4a place of a skull, 534They gave him vinegar to drink 6mingled with gall: 3and when he had tasted thereof, 6he would not drink. 435And they crucified him, 4and parted his garments, 4casting lots: 2that it might be fulfilled 5which was spoken by the prophet, 6They parted my garments among them, 6and upon my vesture did they cast lots. 836And sitting down they watched him there; 737And set up over his head 6his accusation written, 3THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. 838Then were there two thieves crucified with him, 8one on the right hand, 5and another on the left. 539And they that passed by reviled him, 7wagging their heads, 340And saying, 2Thou that destroyest the temple, 5and buildest it in three days, 6save thyself. 2If thou be the Son of God, 7

come down from the cross. 541Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, 7with the scribes 3and elders, 2said, 142He saved others; 3himself he cannot save. 4If he be the King of Israel, 7let him now come down from the cross, 8and we will believe him. 543He trusted in God; 4let him deliver him now, 5if he will have him: 5for he said, 3I am the Son of God. 644The thieves also, 3which were crucified with him, 5cast the same in his teeth. 645Now from the sixth hour 5there was darkness over all the land 7unto the ninth hour. 446And about the ninth hour 5Jesus cried with a loud voice, 6saying, 1Eli, 1Eli, 1lama sabachthani? 2that is to say, 4My God, 2my God, 2why hast thou forsaken me? 547Some of them that stood there, 6when they heard that, 4said, 1This man calleth for Elias. 548And straightway one of them ran, 6and took a spunge, 4and filled it with vinegar, 5and put it on a reed, 6and gave him to drink. 549The rest said, 3Let be, 2let us see whether Elias 5will come to save him. 550Jesus, 1when he had cried again 5with a loud voice, 4yielded up the ghost. 451And, 1

behold, 1the veil of the temple 5was rent in twain 4from the top to the bottom; 6and the earth did quake, 5and the rocks rent; 452And the graves were opened; 5and many bodies of the saints 6which slept arose, 353And came out of the graves 6after his resurrection, 3and went into the holy city, 6and appeared unto many. 454Now when the centurion, 4and they that were with him, 6watching Jesus, 2saw the earthquake, 3and those things that were done, 6they feared greatly, 3saying, 1Truly this was the Son of God. 755And many women were there beholding afar off, 8which followed Jesus from Galilee, 5ministering unto him: 356Among which was Mary Magdalene, 5and Mary the mother of James 6and Joses, 2and the mother of Zebedee’s children. 657When the even was come, 5there came a rich man of Arimathaea, 7named Joseph, 2who also himself was Jesus’ disciple: 658He went to Pilate, 4and begged the body of Jesus. 6Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. 859And when Joseph had taken the body, 7he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 860And laid it in his own new tomb, 8which he had hewn out in the rock: 8and he rolled a great stone 6to the door of the sepulchre, 6and departed. 261And there was Mary Magdalene, 5and the other Mary, 4sitting over against the sepulchre. 562Now the next day, 4that followed the day of the preparation, 7the chief priests 3

and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, 663Saying, 1Sir, 1we remember that that deceiver said, 6while he was yet alive, 5After three days I will rise again. 764Command therefore 2that the sepulchre be made sure 6until the third day, 4lest his disciples come by night, 6and steal him away, 4and say unto the people, 5He is risen from the dead: 6so the last error 4shall be worse than the first. 665Pilate said unto them, 4Ye have a watch: 4go your way, 3make it as sure as ye can. 766So they went, 3and made the sepulchre sure, 5sealing the stone, 3and setting a watch. 4

281In the end of the sabbath, 6as it began to dawn 5toward the first day of the week, 7

came Mary Magdalene 3and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. 82And, 1behold, 1there was a great earthquake: 5for the angel of the Lord 6descended from heaven, 3and came 2and rolled back the stone from the door, 8and sat upon it. 43His countenance was like lightning, 5and his raiment white as snow: 64And for fear of him 5the keepers did shake, 4and became as dead men. 55And the angel answered 4and said unto the women, 5Fear not ye: 3for I know that ye seek Jesus, 7which was crucified. 36He is not here: 4for he is risen, 4as he said. 3

Come, 1see the place where the Lord lay. 77And go quickly, 3and tell his disciples 4that he is risen from the dead; 7and, 1behold, 1he goeth before you into Galilee; 6there shall ye see him: 5lo, 1I have told you. 48And they departed quickly 4from the sepulchre with fear 5and great joy; 3and did run to bring his disciples word. 89And as they went to tell his disciples, 8behold, 1Jesus met them, 3saying, 1All hail. 2And they came 3and held him by the feet, 6and worshipped him. 310Then said Jesus unto them, 5Be not afraid: 3go tell my brethren 4that they go into Galilee, 5and there shall they see me. 611Now when they were going, 5behold, 1some of the watch came into the city, 8and shewed unto the chief priests 6all the things that were done. 612And when they were assembled with the elders, 8and had taken counsel, 4they gave large money unto the soldiers, 713Saying, 1Say ye, 2His disciples came by night, 5and stole him away while we slept. 714And if this come to the governor’s ears, 8we will persuade him, 4and secure you. 315So they took the money, 5and did as they were taught: 6and this saying is commonly reported 6among the Jews until this day. 616Then the 2eleven 11

disciples went away into Galilee, 5into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 817And when they saw him, 5they worshipped him: 3but some doubted. 318And Jesus came 3and spake unto them, 4saying, 1All power is given unto me in heaven 8and in earth. 319Go ye therefore, 3

and teach all nations, 4baptizing them in the name of the Father, 8and of the Son, 4and of the Holy Ghost: 520Teaching them to observe all things 6whatsoever I have commanded you: 5and, 1lo, 1I am with you alway, 5even unto the end of the world. 7Amen. 1
