Hammer PlantMy Brothers, as we are in our season of change and are

installing the last of our new Lodge Officers. May I ask each of youto consider where you want your Lodge to go. I am not asking youlook ahead a year or even five years. Today’sOfficers need to establish the direction ofmarch for your lodge into the far future. Dis-cuss with each other the direction, objectives, and what is important to your Lodge’s future.Ask yourselves what you would like to see atyour Lodge if you came back in fifty years. Ifyou would like to see a healthy Lodge support-ing the community by embodying MasonicValues, some interesting elements go into thatpicture. What are those things? Ask yourBrothers what it would take to get there. Restassured, everything you specify will requiresome sort of a change of direction. Member-ship will certainly be a topic that will come up.What will the numbers of Brothers in yourLodge be in fifty years and what action must you do now to movethe needle to get those numbers where they will need to be? Gettinggood new Brothers into our ranks now will be one area for change.Keeping the Brothers we have is another. Bringing back some Broth-ers we may have lost should be a priority. Try this. You will be sur-prised how productive it can be. How will we facilitate the passingof our beloved Fraternity forward to succeeding generations withinfamilies? Preserving our past traditions while moving into a muchdifferent future will probably be an area for discussion. Communityinvolvement may be discussed. The process of turning over thereigns to a new generation of Masons should be a consideration. You may talk about your Lodge building and the life cycle costs tomaintain it for the next fifty years. You may want to discuss the stateof your funds. There will be changes that we may only imagine andcertainly cannot forecast. Educational research is considering if therewill be new ways to learn more efficiently than we ever have. Howmight that impact our ritual work? If we are open to new thoughtsand honest in these discussions, they all will most likely necessitatea change of direction. Make no mistake, change may be painful justlike aging and growth cause growing pains, but we get through them.

Our Brother, Rick Coles, is Professor and Chair of Exercise atRipon College. He is also the Offense Coach for the Ripon CollegeFootball Team and a Masonic leader. When he coaches the youngmen on the football field, he stresses that when they have to changedirection when running on the field they do what he calls a “hammerplant” with their foot. This is to emphasize that the greater the forceyou use to plant your foot, the greater the force you can push off ofthat foot to change directions more quickly. The hammer plant alsoprevents slips, falls, injuries, and blown assignments.

My Brothers, I submit to you as our new Lodge leadership, weall need to adopt a version of the “hammer plant” for our Lodges. As we move into our new terms of office, we need to symbolicallyplant our foot down firmly and with great force. We need to look toour newest and young Masons and get them involved in the line andshare with them leadership of our Lodges. They need to start oncommittees. Get the experience of solving lodge challenges. Theyneed to learn the ritual work and about the content of our gentleCraft. The younger they are when they do this, the better. We needto help them and guide them to think big thoughts.

We need to honestly look at the brotherhood we practice withinour own ranks and get ourselves on a firm footing. I am not so sim-ple to believe that every Brother in Wisconsin is ready to join handsand sing Girl Scout campfire songs. Brothers do disagree. I knowthere are differences of opinion and personal style. Often that comesout of the passion our Brothers have for our Fraternity. We all alsoknow we have all obligated ourselves to always help, aid and assistand never cheat, wrong or defraud another Brother. There is noplace in a Lodge of Brothers for cliques, “opposing camps”, or anyform of intimidation or bullying. Find consensus and move ahead. We know we have all signed up to be Brothers first, act like it. Solet us all live up to this and hammer plant our foot through the de-liberate active practice of Brotherhood. We can use this year’s In-stallation as the first firm power step we will make in the newdirections we need to take to usher in the next fifty years. We cannotafford to have further injury, slips, falls, or blown assignments. OurLodges were handed down to us from the good Brothers who wenton before us. We are obliged to them and to each other. We mustpass on stronger Lodges to those who come after us. Brotherly loveis the clear difference between Masonry and all the other organiza-tions we could support. What could be more significant?

So, talk about serving as a strong capable Officer Line. Keepyour heads up and look to the future. We may not have all the an-swers today, but if we help grow the right group of Brothers to headthings up and empower them with our support, the answers willcome. Hammer plant, pivot, and start today. God Bless you all andmay He watch over all of our Lodges.

Fraternally Yours,Frank Struble And crown

thy good with Brotherhood!

Heis a member of numerous otherMasonic appendant bodies andhas received numerous honors in-cluding being coronated a 33°Mason as a member of the Scot-tish Rite Valley of Indianapolis.

I like how the book spends aconsiderable amount of pages onthe concordant and appendantbodies, which is always an areathan needs understanding bymany new or existing Masons andwould help a Brother make a bet-ter informed decision about po-tentially joining. It also provides agreat deal of emphasis on Ma-sonic history and symbolism.Something I found somewhat

spooky was finding my own nameon the last page of Chapter 4 talk-ing about US soldier coming upona deceased German soldier whowore a Masonic ring, thenwatched a group of US soldiersthat were Masons give him a Ma-sonic Funeral, and how it affectedhim and later he became a Mason. Now, I’ll have to research if we arerelated somehow! What drew myinterest the most was Chapter 14titled “So Is It Still Relevant?”, acommon topic among leadershipin the fraternity when discussinghow to proactively approach goodmen about joining. One state-ment that really struck me was“Only about a third of Americansthink their fellow man can betrusted, down from 50 percent ofAmericans who were trusting 40years ago.” I think this singlestatement makes us more relevantthan ever.

Having been involved withGrand Lodge Planning Commit-tee in the compilation of our newMentor Handbook recently, it’s in-teresting to me that this book iscertainly not for dummies, but canserve as an accompanying guideto any new or longstandingMason wanting a better back-ground in the craft, or to the newMentor who wants to round outhis background. I definitely give itmy seal of approval and recom-mend it to all!

Greetings! How is your relationship going? No, I am not talking about your relationship with a spouse, partner,

or child. Nor am I speaking about your relationship with fellow work-ers or social friendships. I am talking about your relationship withGod. Your faith is your relationship with theAlmighty and it is personalized just for you. Inthe Christian faith we read: "If your first concernis to look after yourself, you'll never find yourself. But if you forget about yourself and look at me,you'll find both yourself and me." (Matthew10:39 MSG).The Catholic Church wrote in the Declaration

on the Relation of the Church to Non-ChristianReligions, or Nostra Aetate, a major documentof the Second Vatican Council. The CatholicChurch has said that other religions, though dif-ferent from our own, often reflect "a ray of thatTruth" which enlightens all human beings (Nos-tra Aetate, a.2). This truth is faith in God (alsoknown as one's "Maker"or "Supreme Being").So, we are talking about a ray of truth, which enlightens us in our

lives. Our relationship with God helps us see the good in this world. Our relationship with God takes away fear and fills our soul withcontentment. In Luke 12:30 we read, "Only people who don't knowGod are always worrying" (CEV).Many people only really get to know God when they are in stress

and pain. It is quite common for an atheist in the last days of theirlife to discover God. Why wait until you need God? Tighten your re-lationship now, when you can experience faith, and you will discoverhow glorious a personal relationship with God can be and how itwill change your life.

My Brothers,For the last month lodges in Wisconsin have been busy installing

their officers for 2016. This is an exciting time of year for all Ma-sons in Wisconsin whether you are being installed as an officer, participating in an installation, enjoying the fel-lowship and renewing old friendships or start-ing new ones.Chances are, unless you have been installed

Master of your lodge, you may not have readthrough the installation program. If you havebeen installed as an officer, you might haveonly paid close attention to the portion rele-vant to the office for which you are being in-stalled. If you read through or follow along youwill notice that besides detailing the duties ofeach of the officers, it also stresses the impor-tance of unity among them. That together theyform the leadership team of the lodge. As with any team, true success can only be

achieved by the officers all working together. One of my Masonicmentors likened it to a team of horses, where the Lodge is sym-bolically linked to the collars they wear with the jewels of their of-fice. Only when they are all pulling together can they move thelodge forward. The progress of the lodge is directly related to howhard the team pulls. If at any point a member of the team beginsto pull in a different direction, the progress of the lodge will beequally affected. As officers of the lodge, how can we ensure that success? There

are many ways, perhaps the most obvious is to hold regular officermeetings. Get input from the members of the team so that all canunderstand and be part of the direction the lodge is headed. Givethem an opportunity to be part of the planning for the lodge byhelping set the agenda for the stated communications. This notonly builds unity among the officers but the members of the lodgewill see results after the first meeting and will be eager to be a partof it, It will naturally build continuity among the officers for yearsto come. You will see an article in this edition in the Masonic Journal about

the Management module of the Masonic College. There are threemore classes being held this year, the next one is on January 30,2016 in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. Registration is open. Registrationis also open for the Secretary’s conference in Madison on January16, 2016. Both of these are excellent opportunities to increaseyour Masonic knowledge and enable you to be a better team leaderor team member.Congratulations to all the newly installed officers. I hope to meet

each and every one of you!

Masonic Service and AssistanceAs Chairman for the Committee of Service and Assistance, I wel-come all Lodges to be mindful that Service and Assistance is hereto assist Worthy Brother Master Masons, their Widows and Or-phans. Assistance begins in the Lodge. The process begins if youknow of a Brother in good standing or his family that can benefitby assistance. The Lodge must assist this Brother first; be a “passof the hat” or funds dispersed from the Lodge’s Treasurer. In somecases, Lodge Brothers have been very instrumental with assistanceby asking Brothers within the Lodge that have special talents toassist.

If further assistance is needed, you can assist the Brother in com-pleting an application for assistance. Those forms are attached tothis memo or can be obtained from the Grand Lodge Office. Eachcase referred to the Committee is reviewed and normally have avery quick response. In most cases we try to complete our requestswithin 30 days.

There are however, EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE cases. In thosecases, we will respond much quicker.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.

By Kelsey PangbornThe Chagnon’s story is one of

happy times, hard work, and fol-lowing their dreams, which has ledto blissful retirement living atThree Pillars Senior Living Com-munities’ MasonWoods in Cecil,Wis. Bro. Bob, originally fromRhinelander, WI, has been aMason since 1975, and MaryAlice, from North Dakota, a mem-ber of Order of the Eastern Starsince age 18. The two met in Peo-ria, IL, in 1963 when lifeserendipitously placed them boththere for a weekend. They weremarried, had two magnificentdaughters, and this past summercelebrated the joyous occasion of50 years of marriage with a spec-tacular party. As newlyweds, Bob and Mary

Alice lived in Clintonville, Wis.,and later settled in Kiel, Wis., toraise their girls. It was there thatthey joined an OES Chapter to-gether – Mary Alice serving asWorthy Matron for 18 years, andBob Worthy Patron four timeswith her. She worked for a chiro-practor and later for a bank, andhe was a high school band direc-tor for 43 years. Bob, inspired by his uncle who

was a Mason, joined DeMolay andreceived the Chevaliers degree. When he became a Mason him-self, Bob was originally a memberof Kiel Lodge No. 336. As his lifeled him in various directions, hetransitioned to several otherlodges along the way, serving asMaster approximately 10 differenttimes, and landing him at his cur-rent Lodge of MasonWoodsLodge No. 368 with dual mem-bership at Tri-County DayliteLodge No. 218, Crivitz. He’sserved in countless positions, in-cluding Director of the WisconsinMasonic Show Choir for 10 years.Often, performances with thisgroup took place at Three Pillars’Dousman location, which tuckedthe idea of someday retiring therein the back of his mind. Along with music, another pas-

sion of Bob’s is photography, andif you’ve seen his work, you knowhis incredible talent. He had achance to study photographywhile in the service in 1962, andhas been a photographer eversince. He’s had many opportuni-ties to practice his beloved art, andjust before retirement, becameparticularly active by seizing anopportunity to combine his knowl-edge of photography with his Ma-sonic ties as official photographerfor OES from 2007 to 2015.As their daughters grew and left

home, Bob and Mary Alice foundthemselves enjoying being awayon cruises, tours, and their ever-moving photography business.Their large home offered sevenspacious acres that required main-tenance, a long driveway to snowblow, and sidewalks to shovel, which became increasing nui-sances in their schedules. They’d always thought Mason-

Woods would be a nice place tobe when they got older, and theycertainly knew firsthand how wellthe Masonic order takes care ofpeople. Since it was always anidea in the back of their minds, inJune of 2011, they made it a re-ality and tested the waters ofmaintenance-free living. They just moved in a few items

at first, thinking it could be their“cabin up north” for part time res-idence, but they gradually beganspending just a little more timethere and moving just a few moreitems in. They realized it was lessexpensive than keeping a houseand an idyllic destination for them.Mary Alice was voted in as Mason-Woods Community Secretary andFloor Representative and, as theyjoined in more activities, they fellmore in love with the place everyday. Nine months later, they madethe decision that MasonWoods

was home for good, and sold theirplace in Kiel.

Looking back, Bob and MaryAlice remember their first resi-dence in Clintonville, and chuckleto think what their young selveswould have thought of them retir-ing at a stunning place like this onthe lake! For them, living at an in-dependent senior apartment com-munity is about more than a roofover their heads. It’s about beingpart of a community, havingamenities at their disposal, under-ground parking, a place to storetheir motor home between theirmonthly summer trips, and thepeace of mind in knowing theirhome is safe. It’s easy living wherethey can pick up and go on a tripwithout thinking twice abouthome maintenance.

Possibly most of all, theChagnons cherish the way the

people at MasonWoods and theCecil community interact witheach other, support one another, and look out for their neighbor.

“The residents and staff hereare like having an extended fam-ily,” Bob comments. “It’s justsuper. If we’d still been living inour own home, the contact we’dhave with friends and neighborswould be minimal. Here, youwake up and can find the ladies’exercise group and men’s coffeechat going on before it’s even8:30 a.m.”

They’re thankful their life ledthem to MasonWoods, and Ma-sonWoods is grateful to have sucha beloved couple who chose tomake it their home for good.

Who Should Attend the Wisconsin Masonic College Management Class

The team involved with developing the curriculums for theWisconsin Masonic College have been getting some questionsabout who should attend the new Management classes beingrolled out this Masonic year. In part, our answer is consistentwith last year for the Leadership class. Any lodge officer shouldstrongly consider attending our classes. If your officer post iscloser to being Master, you have immediate potential use ofwhat you will learn. If lower in the officer line, you will gainknowledge earlier, and be a better contributor with others inthe line solving issues and making plans, especially the Master.Even beyond the officer line, any Master Mason that aspires tobeing an officer, or leader/manager in their personal or profes-sional lives or other appendant bodies, can make use of theknowledge you will gain.

This year, in our Management classes, we have some valuablecontent for Lodge Trustees also. How often are our Brothersthrust into Lodge Trustee positions quite unprepared for deal-ing with the meaty issues surrounding the assets of the lodge? That situation bothered us too. This year for Management, wehave two extensive modules on Investment Management andFacilities Management, both key to effective Trustee engage-ment and success. So, even if you are a seasoned LodgeTrustee, just getting involved as one, or want to know what isimportant, going to this year’s class would be a good opportu-nity for you to learn something new.

Register at www.wisc-freemasonry.org.Hope to see you there!

Membership MinuteAnother idea from your Membership committee –The text below is a Facebook post which was written by a newlyelected Master, Mike Burnham of Freemasons Lodge. The vastmajority of people receiving this post are currently not part of ourMasonic family. What a great way to share feelings and introducea large group of people to our wonderful Fraternity! Almost alllodges throughout the state just elected or installed new officers. Are you on Facebook? Why not share your thoughts with your re-lationships via technology? Enjoy!!!

"Friends... One week from today, I will have the honor of beinginstalled as the Master of one of Wisconsin's largest and most-pros-perous Masonic Lodges. This is a public ceremony wherein all ourofficers are installed for the ensuing year. I share this event withsome of the finest men I have ever met.

Why am I a Freemason? Imagine a group of men that havepledged to be a better person. Imagine a group of people that be-lieve in honoring their country and honoring their Deity, howeverthey personally define each of those duties. Now, take those menand disallow the lodge discussion of their SPECIFIC politics andthe DETAILS of their personal religion, while at the same time en-couraging their active participation in both topics. Think of the ar-guments that disappear.

Now give these men the shared goal of charity and the support oftheir Brothers and watch what happens. It's amazing. This is whythe organization has survived for centuries.

The expression "on the level" comes from this organization. Itmeans that despite our station in life, despite our financial re-sources or the lack thereof, we are equal in this brotherhood.

That's pretty darn cool in my eyes.

That’s pretty cool in our eyes as well! FYI, Mike understands thatimitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Feel free to use his text!

And Finally . . . We thought we’d publish one of the best “elevatorspeeches” which is spoken consistently by Mike.• Prospective member asked you: Why are you a Mason?

• Mike’s response: Before I became a Mason, I only knewtwo guys that I would trust with my life. My best friendsthat I knew would always put my best interest first. Now that I’ve been a Mason for 5 years, I could name 20.Wouldn’t you like to learn more?

The Making of a Master Mason

Bro. Matthew A. Yardley (right), a newly made Master Masonof Geneva Lodge No. 44, is congratulated by Senior Wardenand Mentor John Wozniak.

Submitted by Bro. Bob Grohall, Senior Deacon

Editors note: Bro. Matthew Yardley isa member of Geneva Lodge No. 44.His Master Mason Degree along withthree others was conferred by Freema-sons Lodge on Dec. 12 at the TripoliShrine Temple in Milwaukee.

By Bro. Matthew A. Yardley

Dec. 12, 2015 marked thecompletion of a goal I set for my-self a few years ago when I firstfound out that my grandfatherBro. Thomas Yardley is a MasterMason. Although it is not the endof my journey, it marks the begin-ning on a road to self discovery, personal improvement throughmoral discipline, unbreakablebrotherly bonds and ties, and aconnection to some of the great-est Americans our county has everknown. The fact that I now amconsidered a Brother to ourfounding fathers is still surreal inan almost intoxicating manner.

We met at the Tripoli ShrineTemple located in downtown Mil-waukee around 8 a.m., not beingfrom the Milwaukee area I reallyhad no idea of what to expect. Iinstantly fell in love with thebeauty of this building, in manyways it pulsates with history andtradition. The craftsmanship thatwent into this building is over-whelming. Words can't expressmy gratitude for our Brothers al-lowing me to be raised within thewalls of this wonderful building.

There were four of us to beraised that Saturday, which tookthe edge off a little bit, but also al-lowed me to watch the raising ofanother Brother. Knowing thatthis will be the only time in my lifewhen I will be raised I made apoint to enjoy and savor the entireprocess. I have always appreci-ated the work that goes into a de-gree, but the work that ourBrothers did truly made this some-thing I will never forget. The waythey executed their parts wasnothing short of amazing, and itin essence makes me want to be

a part of degree presentations inthe future. The day culminated for me

when Bro. John Wozniak who ismy mentor and teacher through-out my journey so far, placed mygrandfather's Masonic ring on myfinger. My grandfather, andBrother Mason, Thomas Yardleygave me his ring when I firststarted my Masonic journey, butuntil that day all I could do waslook at it, knowing that I had toearn the right to wear it. The Brotherly Love of Masonry

has been demonstrated to me. Ayear and a half ago I was in a hor-rific accident that I have still nothealed from. Throughout thishealing process my Brothers at

Geneva Lodge have kept theireyes on me. They were alwaysthere offering help and support, and through these actions I wasshown what Masonry is all about. To feel this bond and witness itfirst hand helped me pushthrough and force myself to studywhile I could of just as easily quitbecause of pain. I would havenever worn my grandfather's ring.Thank you for showing me what

being a Mason is about. Thankyou to all of the Masons that haveparticipated in my raising and alsomy first two degrees as well. Aspecial thank you to the membersof the Shrine and FreemasonsLodge who allowed me to beraised in such a special place.

Master’s WagesBy Donald M. Severson

The author is a Past Grand Mas-ter of the Grand Lodge of Min-nesota, serving in 1978-79. Heis a Past Master of ArcanaLodge, and a dual member ofPhoenix Daylight Lodge. Hecontinues his service as LodgeEducation Officer, in which rolehe wrote this article in responseto a question from his SeniorWarden.--EditorIn most jurisdictions the Senior

Warden, during meetings, repeatsthe phrase, “In order that I mightreceived Master's wages." Suchwages help a Mason to "be betterenabled to support myself andfamily, and contribute to the reliefof poor distressed Masters Ma-sons, their widows and orphans."But what, really, are Master’swages? If, as a candidate for the degrees

of Masonry, you were looking fora material or financial reward orgain, then your time and treasurewere surely wasted. At the time ofyour first entrance into the Lodgeit may not have been easily dis-cernible, but you were being of-fered an opportunity for spiritual

and personal growth -- Master’sWages. The wages of a Master Mason

could be divided into three cate-gories: Spiritual, Temporal, andPersonal.Spiritual Wages

Do you recall the first wordsspoken by you in a MasonicLodge? Those two words were acrucial insight into the very per-sonal and spiritual part of yourmake up. Because it was a spon-taneous and honest response, itwas a significant examination ofself, and verified and confirmedyour sincere belief and trust inGod -- Master’s Wages in theirmost unalloyed form.Do you also recall at the time of

your 'raising' when you were in-formed by the Master that“heretofore, you have had aBrother to pray for you, now youmust pray for yourself?” Do youremember the spiritual aura andthe almost mystical, somewhatfrightening feeling of being alonewith your creator as you knelt andprayed? Did it leave you with aprofound feeling of belief and trustin your personal Deity? If so, onceagain, you received Master's

Wages.Temporal WagesThere is a very dedicated group

of members in one Lodge I know, who have spent many hours onmuch needed repairs and clean upwork on the Lodge building. Mostof these Brothers are recent addi-tions to the membership of theLodge. These members did notspend time away from their fami-lies and other commitments forpersonal gain. They did it for thegood of the Lodge, its membersand Masonry in general. What was it that prompted these

good Brothers to give of their timeand talent, and what was their re-ward? Master's Wages. It was Mas-ter’s Wages, earned through thesatisfaction and pride in a job welldone, and done for a good andbeneficent purpose. And Broth-ers, these temporal wages are inno way limited to the work ofthe Lodge. Youth groups such asthe Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, GirlScouts. Church groups, and manyother civic organizations, all offeropportunities for earning Master'sWages.Personal WagesMaster Masons, during their per-

sonal journeys through a lifetimeof Masonic labors, have receivedMaster wages in many ways -- anappointment to the Lodge line, anexciting and energizing event; orelection and installation as theLodge Master, an even more ex-citing and awesome event, with allthe apprehension and hope for asuccessful year. How about the appointment to

a Grand Lodge office, and thepossible election and installationas Grand Master? Among themany other events are 25-yearmembership or 50-year member-ship recognition or other Masonicservice awards.

There is the gratification feltwhen you are complimented ongood ritual work or a well thoughtout presentation. All of the foregoing are accom-

panied by the payment of Mas-ter’s Wages.

But the most important aspectof personal Master's Wages, arethe warm and altruistic feelingsyou get when you have been in-strumental in helping anotherhuman being feel better aboutthemselves, by encouraging andhelping them in time of spiritualor physical need, thus makin theworld a better place for them andothers.Another and important form of

personal Master's Wages areearned when new friendships aremade and old ones renewed at themany traditional Lodge functions.Past Master’s Night, Old timersnight, father's and son's banquets, installations of officers, Lodge pic-nics, and inter-Lodge visits. Mostof these functions take place at aless formal venue than Stated orSpecial Communications - but alloffering opportunities for the gar-nering of Master's Wages.

There is a commonly quotedsaying that you get out of Ma-sonry what you put into it. Not so.The rewards far exceed what thesum total of your efforts in Ma-sonry may have been, or will be.My Masonic life has been blessedwith Master's Wages of manykinds, far beyond any time or ef-fort I have put into it.

But there is so much more,Brothers -- much, much more.Master’s Wages -- the veryessence of Masonry that becomesa part of our lives, and changes usin many ways - isan ineffable, abstract, unexplain-able spiritual reward that pervadesthe human soul and cannot be ex-pressed in words alone, but canonly be felt at the deepest andmost transcendent level.Master's Wages: a metaphor for

a way of life. The Short BulletinMasonic Service

Did you know:• Over 14 million people in the

United States are Living withHeart Disease

• Cardiovascular Disease is the num-ber one killer of women in theUnited States

• 82% of Coronary Artery Diseasedeaths occur in people aged 65 orolder and the leading cause of premature and permanent disabilityfrom work

• 1.5 million people have a heart attack every year in the UnitedStates

While at the same time, the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory-Cardiac Research Institute:

• Is one of the top genetic screening centers in the world dedicated tohelping patients with cardiac disease

• Discovered numerous mutations responsible for Long QT syndrome, a life-threatening cardiac arrhythmia syndrome that firstaffects children in their teenage years

• Collaborates with leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology com-panies such as Gilead Sciences, AstraZeneca and Merck to iden-tify drugs that may pose a danger to society and to facilitate FDAapproval of new and effective drugs to treat heart disease.

• Discovered many of the mechanisms responsible for abnormalrhythms of the heart which lead to sudden cardiac deaths

All of this, and more are reasons that the Cardiac Research Center, apart of the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory needs our support.Federal support for basic science research is diminishing, and the needto continue the groundbreaking efforts of the Center are great.

Please consider making a contribution from your Lodge to fund thisimportant research. You could be assisting in saving the life of a fam-ily member, friend, stranger or member of the Masonic Family.

Every dollar (up to $5000) will be matched by the Wisconsin MasonicFoundation’s Medical Fund, working towards our goal of contributing$10,000 annually for the next three years. Consider a fund raiser forthis event. Promotional materials are available by calling Erika in theDevelopment Office at: 262-965-2200, ext. 831.
