According to the WHO, the three main things that could be of concern to human health attributed to GMOs are: Allergenicity - If genes from a typically allergenic organism are transferred to a non-allergenic organism, will the transferred gene produce proteins that have the potential to cause allergic reactions? Gene transfer - Could these modified genes, especially those promoting antibiotic resistance, be transferred from the GM food to humans and cause antibiotic resistance?
