Oh I FEEL so
— It’s my favourite season of all… Key Club season!
The leaves are falling and school is finally kicking in, stay-
ing up doing the dreadful studying or shall I say...cramming. Oh
dear! But it’s also time for Key Club to kick into your school full
swing now! Educate your members and have lively meetings!
I can not stress enough about DUES. DUES. DUES. Key Club
International can only run with the membership fee. Please do
your treasurers a favour and submit in your club dues so that
you can reap all the benefits of an official Key Clubber!
Although Thanksgiving has passed. I just want to give
my thanks to all the Key Clubbers, friends, teachers, Kiwanians,
and divisional mascots who have stuck by me when the wind
blew strong! I am grateful for Key Club and the family it has
provided me and I hope each and everyone of you feel the
same!
In service and friendship,
Jennifer Zhen
Your Lieutenant Governor

PROJECT EDUCATE
#ELIMIN8 In 34 countries around the world, maternal and neona-
tal tetanus (MNT) can quickly turn the joy of childbirth
into tragedy. MNT kills one baby every nine minutes. Its
effects are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeat-
ed, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light
and touch. There is little hope of survival. And tetanus
kills mothers too.
$1.80 WILL SAVE A MOTHER AND HER FUTURE BABIES

UNICEF BACKGROUND
Kiwanis, parent organization of Key Club, and UNICEF joined
forces to tackle iodine deficiency disorders, achieving one
of the most significant public health successes of the 20th
century. Now, together, they are eliminating MNT From the
face of the Earth. In doing so, the project will reach the
poorest, most neglected mothers and babies with addition-
al lifesaving health care. The end of this one disease means
the beginning of better health for so many families.

Spotlight: 3 Club Reports
Yay for school! and Key Club! Tupper Key Club is now up and running with
some very exciting things planned. Despite starting a bit later than other clubs,
we managed to find a new room (with a projector and SmartBoard!) and new
time. Our first meeting showed some very promising potential with many new
members and we could tell it was going to be a good year. Our first fundraiser
is very simple where we hold a raffle draw for candy, $2 per tickets,
for ELIMINATE. We also plan to increase divisional participation at the Oct.
DCM with our new members. Also on Oct. 10, Clubs Day, Tupper Key Club
plans to let the world know we exist and is welcoming everyone to join us!
Tupper
In the month of September, our club mainly focused on organization and settlement for the
new school year. Our clubs membership increased more than we expected; we had
around 70 in our first meeting, and unexpectedly, our next meeting had around 50~60,
which was a lot more than we anticipated. As for things related to volunteering, we did a
clean up of Lafarge Lake. We had got a lot of praises and thanks from the passing people.
Other than volunteering, our club is frantically working towards planning for a 24 hour fam-
ine that will be held in November.

The club started our kick-off meeting in September with an induc-
tion and orientation meeting where Kiwanis Club leaders came to
induct the officers. Our guest list included our sponsor, Art Buxton
of Richmond Club, Lynn Spicer, Jim Henderson & Alan Echers-
ley. We are also gearing up for our first fundraiser this new school
year slated on Oct 21, 2012. It will be a dinner potluck for the ben-
efit of UNICEF. Our students are getting busy with service as well
and with the first group of volunteers helping out at the soup kitch-
en of the Union Gospel Mission on Oct 6. Membership drive is hap-
pening now, so we hope more students can join us!
