Celebrating 20 years of Nash Theatre

By William Shakespeare “The course of true love never did run smooth,”

…as four young lovers discover as they negotiate ‘that bumpy road to love’ through a forest, where fairies weave their magic and a group of would-be amateur actors stumble around in the dark. The road proves to be full of potholes - spells that go wrong with hilarious results, misplaced affection, fights and feuds – until the final curtain, when all’s well that ends well (but that’s another story!).

Directed by Gilly Graham, this production features Brogan Amos, David Bentley, Chris Carroll, Taryn Crispin, Elliott Giarola, Sophie Goto, Catherine Howell, Brendan James, Madelle Niemann, Ainsley Pavey, Franciska Schmoll, Sandy Sharma, Chris Vaag and Wesley van Gelderen.

So come along and revisit an old favourite or, if you are lucky enough to be seeing it for the first time, find out just why this ‘Dream’ has remained a favourite of so many for so long.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

A Note from the President We’ve had a busy month at Nash and it’s not over yet! Gilly Graham took over as director of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the enthusiastic cast have been working hard for her and for her stage manager, Phil Carney, while she has had a

health problem to deal with in the last couple of weeks. The auditions attracted lots of new, young actors, which is wonderful news. We also have new blood backstage. Gary Kliger then took over the direction of Cyrano de Bergerac and has been holding auditions. This looks like being a marvellously swashbuckling production with lots of swords and feathers! David Bentley has taken on the organisation of our Month of Sundays, which goes on in August. All systems go! In the middle of all this activity we had our 20th anniversary celebrations. It was great to catch up with people we had not seen for a long time and we hope that at least some of them will stay around and be part of Nash Theatre again. We are halfway through 2014 and the time has come to start thinking about 2015. If you are interested in directing, assistant directing or just interested send me your thoughts. What kind of programme should we be producing next year? Do you have any plays to recommend? How can we get bums on seats? I’d love your input and when you’ve given me your ideas we’ll have a meeting to discuss them and come up with a brilliant programme of plays for 2015. We’ll also be looking for playwrights, designers, actors, artists, organisers, social media addicts and anybody who would like to be involved in a new, energetic and exciting year for New Farm Nash Theatre!

How would you like a FREE ticket to see our upcoming production – A Midsummer Night’s Dream? Here’s how you can. We need Front of House and Bar staff for all our shows this year.

What’s involved? Read on…

Front of House staff assist in the set-up of the box office, greet patrons, sell tickets, programs and raffle tickets. For less than an hour’s work, you get a FREE ticket to see the show on a night of your choice – even the night you do the Front of House! Bar staff assist in the set-up and operation of the bar (serving patrons, making tea and coffee, pouring wine, selling chocolates, crisps and cake) before the show and during the interval. While your time commitment is around the same as Front of House, your duties are spread out over the night. And for your efforts, a FREE ticket to see the show on a night of your choice.

In the ‘Most Memorable Production’ category - as nominated by the Critics - Nash Theatre was the Winner for A Streetcar Named Desire, which was directed by Brenda White.

A Runner Up in this category was Bell, Book & Candle, directed by Nigel Munro-Wallis. Another Runner Up was This Lime Tree Bower, one of Nash’s ‘Month of Sundays’ seasons.

Anniversary party

The 20th Anniversary celebration was a wonderful chance to catch up with some of the people who have been involved with Nash over the years. The founder of Nash, Godfrey Bathurst (pictured far left with Brenda) was a very welcome guest. We’ve come a long way since the Rosalie days, but we are still going strong. With memorabilia to peruse – can you imagine how many posters alone we have amassed over time! – much reminiscence was inevitable. And enjoyable.
