The Major Experience: DIGITAL MEDIA ARTS HUMANITIES A Digital Media Arts major provides opportunities for emerging artists and designers to develop the formal and technical skills that enable them to create works that engage and challenge a changing society. The major focuses on the development of creative, technical, and critical skills while providing students with hands-on learning experiences and regular evaluation. Students pursue one of four areas of specialization: video, audio, web or graphic design. Digital Media Arts is an interdisciplinary major that also develops the broad critical skills central to the liberal arts, and prepares students for diverse employment opportunities. An understanding of how digital media artworks can be used to create a dialogue across difference. Advanced technical skills in one or more forms of digital media using a range of industry-standard tools. Communication skills from conveying ideas through project proposals and critique, and an understanding of the power of art and design to express ideas in manners beyond writing and speaking. The ability to apply core formal principles (visual, aural, spatial, temporal, interactive) of a specific digital medium in the design and creation and exhibition of a digital media product. Critical thinking skills from analyzing digital media works as art/ design using relevant theories and historical concepts. The ability to research, adopt and adapt to emerging technologies in creative work.
