When K.C. Cornish submitted photos of a 2' x 8' layout he was selling, we realized that this would be an ideal layout to answer the call for more track plans. The layout features a great mix of scenery and track represented over 8’ feet. This length allows for gentle grades to bring trains up and over trackage. The photos of the layout showed a European theme, but is can easily be adapted to a U.S. style layout. Not having the original plans, we challenged Ztrack subscriber Robert Volkovitsch to decipher the photos and work out a plan using Märklin’s track system. Robert did an excellent job. All curves are no smaller then 8520, 195mm radius. This will allow for larger engines and cars. The plan is basically an over and under figure eight. Through proper blocking, the layout can accommodate at least two running trains. Yard space and interesting sidings allow for storage and switching possibilities. A turn table adds much to the layout and would be perfect for your steam locomotives or modern diesels! Though not shown in the photos, a round house can easily be added. Wiring should not be too complicated. Electrical leads every three feet will aid in performance. The complexity of wiring will be determined by the blocks and use of electrical turnouts. The buildings shown in the photos are a mix of Kibri, Vollmer, Märklin, Faller and collectible cast cot- tages. Overall, this is a large layout that is sure to please those looking for operations and switching capabilities in a sceniced layout.
