Prepared online objective test papers in Physics and Computer Science topics.

• To start a Visual Art centre under the Media Research Centre to screen educative art movies/ to

conduct arts/painting exhibitions.

Visual Art Centre was started with aim of screening world movies to the students and conduct

fine art related programmes. HOME, Children of Heaven (Iranian Film), Osama (Afghan

Film) and Mountain Patrol(Tibetan Film) were screened in 2010-11. It also organized a one

day Painting Exhibition on “Save the Earth and Humanism” on 14th

February 2011.

• To conduct documentary and short film festival through Media Research Centre.

Madurai International Documentary and Short Film Festival was conducted from 7th

December 2011. 140 films were screened . Short films and documentary from USA,

Japan, Australia, U.K., Spain, Brazil, Germany, Franceand Italy were screened. A musical

drama of Harichandra Mayana Kandam was also organized.

• To publish a bi-annual house journal “Madurai Madal” .

Two issues of the House journal were released.

• To collaborate with Ayothidasar Research Centre , Madurai in its activities.

Launched Website for Ayothithasa Pandithar in collaboration with Ayothithasar Research

Centre on 22nd

May 2010. Dr.Aloysius from New Delhi has inaugurated the website.

• To organize motivational lectures to students by eminent persons in collaboration with Rotary

Clubs, soft skills training institutes, etc.,

A number of motivational lectures/ career guidance programs were conducted.

• To celebrate important festivals with the people living with HIV.

Students celebrated important festivals like Diwali, Christmus, Pongal , etc., in the campus

with the HIV affected persons along with their families.

Section B

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution

To provide education at affordable cost, the college plans to introduce new courses. Towards this

step, the College started the M.Phil programmes in Mathematics and Economics: also research

program leading to Ph.D degree was started in the Department of Economics.

2. New academic programmes initiated (UG and PG)

a) In the self-finance stream, M.Phil courses in Maths and Economics were started in this academic

year 2010-11

b) The Dept. of Economics was upgraded into a research centre of MKU.

3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction

On-line quiz tests were prepared and conducted for a number of topics in the subjects of Physics,

Mathematics and Computer Science. Submission of assignments through e-mail by students of

M.Sc Physics and M.Phil Physics.

4. Inter-disciplinary programmes started

A Seminar on Philosophical intervention on Artificial Intelligence was conducted jointly by the

Departments of Mathematics and Philosophy as s first step to explore the possibility of offering an

inter-disciplinary paper as a non-major elective

We are the WINNERS in:

Badminton, Ball Badminton, Lawn Tennis, Swimming And Volley Ball.

We are RUNNERs-UP in :

Body Building, Foot Ball And Table Tennis.

Our Girls Team participated in Athletics, Badminton, Chess, Kho-Kho, and Table Tennis.

Many of our students were selected to represent the Madurai Kamaraj University to play:

• The All India Inter – University Tournaments.

• South-West Inter – University Tournaments.

• South-Zone Inter – University Tournaments.

2. Open Trophies:

Our teams have participated in open competitions also. Our team participated in Athletics, Badminton,

Carrom, Cricket, Volley Ball, Football and Weight Lifting. We were the Winners in Badminton,

Chess, and Volley Ball. Runner-up in Body Building.

Annexure XI lists our Students achievements in sports.

35. Incentives to outstanding sportspersons

a) Tracksuits and kitbags are provided to University Players of our College.

b) Shorts and Banians are provided to college team players.

For the newly recruited 25 non-teaching staff, training on computers was given . Hand-outs on

how to work with MS Word, Excel and Power Point were also given to them

40. Good Practices of the Institution:

a) Teachers of research departments who have successfully guided scholars for their Ph.D degree

are given a honorarium by the management as a token of appreciation of the good work.

b) Honouring Teachers who have successfully guided scholars for their M.Phil degree in the

departments offering M.Phil programme continues.

c) Teachers and Non-teaching Staff who have put in 20 years of service are presented with wrist

watches on the College day.

d) Each department is allocated a sum of Rs 3000/- to organize events to bring out the inherent

talents of students in cultural related activities.

e) The College permits schools to conduct their sports and also their sports day in the college

grounds free of cost

f) The College provides the necessary facilities free of cost to The Tamilnadu Science Forum for

all its activities.

g) The College permits the Police department, Fire wing and NCC to conduct their parades, drills,

a) The Rectorial address was given by Mr N.Gopalaswami, former Chief Election Commissiner

of India on 29/3/2011

b) Dr.P.Namperumalsamy, Chairman, Aravind Eye care Systems, Madurai gave the Graduation

Day address.

c) From this academic year the MKU has recognized Dr.K.M.Rajasekaran, Dr P.Krishnan & Dr

S.Karuppusamy of Botany, Dr J.Suresh of Physics and Dr R.Raja of English as approved Ph.D

Research Guides.

d) English department has applied for ISBN and got permission for publishing ten books. The

articles presented in the one-day seminar “ Indian Immigrant Writers in America” were

published in a book with one of the ISBNs obtained.

e) Mr R.Subramony, Asst. Professor of English, has written a book entitled “Paramahamsa: A

Vedantic Tale” (Publisher : DK Prints World, New Delhi) This book will be officially

released at our college by Dr. Subramania Swamy in June 2011.

f) Dr. Chandra Bose of the Department of English and Dr. C.Gopinathan of the Department of

Physics have been appointed as member of the Doctoral Committee constituted by Anna

University, Madurai and Anna university, Coimbatore, respectively.

g) Economics Day was celebrated 9/9/2010.

h) New Century Book House, Madurai conducted a 3-day Book exhibition in the College campus

from 20th

to 22nd

October 2010.

i) Launched Website for Ayothithasa Pandithar in collaboration with Ayothithasar Research

Centre on 22nd

May 2010. Dr.Aloysius from New Delhi has inaugurated the website.

j) Visual Art Centre was promoted by the department with aim of screening world movies to the

m) Yoga Research Centre has taught yoga this year also for more than 350 persons.

n) Ms.J.Deepa was awarded Tamilnadu Government’s KALPANA CHAWLA award for the year

2010.

o) Ms. Indira Gandhi, II MA Philosophy has published a translation of an English Volume

entitled ‘Red Sun’ for which she has been awarded Anandavikatan’s Best translation award for

this year.

p) Dr.M.A.Shahul Hameed, Lecturer , Department of Philosophy has

1) Offered Indian Martial Arts training to the Rapid Action Force of the Indian Army at

Coimbatore during August 2010.

2) Offered Indian Martial Arts training to Students of Lady Doak College during February 28-

March 7,2011

3) Performed a special Cultural programme at the International Social Philosophy Congress at

Annamalai University.

4) Performed A special Cultural programme at the International Conference at Thiyagaraja

Engineering College, Madurai on 16-12-2010

5) Acted and produced a short film entitled HELLMET

q) P.Kajendran , Research Scholar, Department of Philosophy was awarded Tamilnadu

Government’s Research Stipend for 2 years from 21-05-2010.

r) Dr. R. Eswaran was appointed as External Examiner to conduct the Ph.D. Public Viva –voce

for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Zoology at Jamal Mohammed College,

Bharathidasan University, Trichy on 01-04-2011.

s) III B.Sc. Zoology students went on a study tour to Bangaloe from 10-3-20011 to 13-3-20011

t) First year B.Sc Botany students were taken on field trip to Kodaikanal hills for plant collection

under the guidance of Mr.S.Chellapandian, and Dr.R.P.Krishnan.

u) Dr.K.M.Rajasekaran and Dr.S.Karuppusamy organized taxanomic field study trip to Sirumalai

hills for III B.Sc students.

v) Dr.P.Kannan and Mr.V.Meenakshisundaram have organized field trip to Kodaikanal for I

M.Sc., students for taxanomy study.
