Cook-off and Bake Sale for Doug Skelton, Director of Gaming Finance Tuesday, November 8 from 10 am - 2 pm
Calling all Associates, one of our fellow Associates needs our help. Doug Skelton, Director of Gaming Finance, is out on FMLA and will be out for several more weeks. His medical bills are mounting and they are not going to stop any time soon. We want to help in any way we can to take some of the burden he and his family are having financially.
With that being said, the Finance Gaming Departments, at both ML and HK are having a fundraiser which will involve the following: A cook off in three categories which are main dishes, appetizers, and desserts, a bake sale, and we will also take preorders on cookbooks that will feature all the recipes from the cook-off at both properties, as well as those that are submitted. We will need contestants for the cook-off and donations for the bake sale. You the Associates are going to be the judges of the cook-off.
A donation of $3.00 is all that is needed to be a taste testing judge and to vote for the best main dish, appetizer, and dessert.
The winner of each area will get a free cookbook and their recipe featured first in the appropriate section of the cookbook.
ML will be Tuesday, November 8th from 10 am - 2 pm and HK will be Wednesday, November 16th from 10 am - 2 pm.
Please contact Jessica Hawkins at extension 8343 or email with any questions and to sign up to be a contestant.
Thank you so much for all of your support and giving.
More information will be given in the next newsletter.

Three Rules of Work According to EinsteinThis week, lets examine the three elements in a quote once said by Albert Einstein. He said:
“Three Rules of Work: Out of clutter find simplicity; From discord find harmony; In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.”
Spend some time examining with your team each of these rules.• Out of clutter find simplicity – What causes clutter for you individually,
organizationally, or environmentally? What is the best role you can play to help simplify these situations? When will you play this part?
• From discord find harmony – What is not in sync around you? Are there opportunities to wrest order from chaos? What are the contributions you can give to help create peace and harmony where others may tread with heavy steps and raucous negativity?
• In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity – Many of the most innovative and inspirational moments that have been created in human history have come slinking on the heels of adversity. We must only have heart enough left to notice these opportunities to be great and seize them before they pass.
If we are to find wisdom in Einstein’s words, strategize to follow the rules he set forth, and act on the strategies we create, then the potential quality of our work, relationships, and environment is boundless.

Diabetes: Taking Care of YourselfIf you have diabetes, learning to manage your health should be a top priority. To reduce your risks, include these tips as a part of your daily routine.
Have your eyes checked regularly. People with diabetes have an increased risk of developing eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy — the leading cause of blindness in adults. So it’s important to see your eye care professional at least once a year. See your eye doctor immediately or seek medical help if you experience any of the following symptoms:• Sudden blurred vision• Double vision• Pain in one or both eyes• Seeing spots, lights or floaters• Loss of peripheral vision
If you smoke, get help to quit. Smoking is a harmful habit for anyone. For those with diabetes it may increase the risk of nerve damage, stroke or other health problems. Smoking also can raise your blood glucose level, making it difficult to manage your diabetes. Talk with your doctor about smoking-cessation aids.
Work with your doctor. Learn how to control other health issues. Understand immunizations, and don’t forget an annual flu shot and the pneumococcal shot. Finally, talk with your doctor about other screenings you might need on a periodic basis.

Approaching Change SystematicallyIf you own a business, you know how important it is to develop systems for getting things done. But have you ever thought about a system for making changes in your personal life? If you were to ask, you'd find that most people would like to make at least a few changes in their lives. They want to weigh less, stop smoking, start exercising, get better grades, build better relationships, and get a better job... all manner of things. But if you ask specifically about how they plan to do it, often the picture begins to blur. They are not quite sure, or they have a vague idea but no real plan. Unfortunately, this is where they set themselves up to fail. You see, if you have a good system in place before you start - a system that you know is likely to produce good results if you follow it - then you are dramatically increasing your likelihood of success. A good system will help you clarify goals, identify specific desired behaviors (or undesirable ones you'd like to change), keep track of whether the behaviors are performed, and provide rewards when you attain a goal or sub-goal. It is the ignition key to the engine
of your life! A good system can make the difference between sustained results and a flash in the pan, and will help you turn a new behavior into a habit that you don't even have to think about. Finally, a good system will help you focus your thoughts in a way that eliminates negative self-talk and increases positive self-talk, and it will help you plan for and deal with relapses or setbacks. So, if you're serious about making changes in your life and you are committed to success, then maybe you owe it to yourself to approach change systematically.
