Dear Parishioner,

This weekend we celebrate the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul. The Sunday gospel contains a favorite passage of mine: "And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the Kingdom of heaven."

Jesus called Simon, an ordinary man, to be the rock of the Church, its foundation. Certainly not perfect, Peter persevered in spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. What an amazing model for us all!

We are all called to that same mission - to share the good news and to support and strengthen the Church. Our challenges are certainly different than those of Saint Peter, but we must face them with the same fortitude and faith. And we must strive for the same reward - the keys to the Kingdom of heaven.

This recent comment from Pope Francis may help us on this mission: "What does 'evangelize' mean? To give witness with joy and simplicity to what we are and what we believe in."

Let us ask God to help us continue the mission of Saint Peter with joy and simplicity.

In peace,

Jackie Alworth Youth Minister

Sunday, June 29th, immediately following the 7:00pm Mass, come check out the Youth Group - our regular weekly meeting. All teens in grades 8 – 12 are welcome! (The Youth Room is located on the lower level of the Parish Center.)

Trinity Academy Announces A New Pre-K Location

Trinity Academy is excited to announce it will move its Pre-k program from Roseland to the Caldwell campus, beginning in September 2014. Classes will be offered for children 3 to 4 years old. In addition to the traditional Pre-k curriculum that includes language arts, math, art and social development – Trinity Pre-k students will also enjoy special classes such as music, physical education and technology. A new outdoor playground area will be installed for use by the Pre-k and kindergarten children, and before-care and after-care will be provided. The Caldwell building will undergo renovations this summer to make sure the preschool children have their own separate classroom area, while faculty and administration explore ways that the older children can serve as mentors to the little ones, such as a book buddy program. Preschool parents can expect the same nurturing, academically-challenging environment that had previously been offered in Roseland, with additional benefits at the Caldwell campus. For more information about Trinity Academy and the new Pre-k location, visit www.trinityk8.org, or call 973-226-3386, ext. 10.

By Ken Mihalik

In addition to my duties on the Pastoral Council, I have been involved with the Baptism Ministry for nearly ten years now. Through this ministry, I have the opportunity to meet many “brand new” parents. Because of the number of years running these classes, it is easy to become complacent, and routine with the class. It is easy to lose sight of the reason for this ministry. However, at each session I always end up appreciating the important role that Baptism ministers perform. The class is more than a primer in getting new parents ready for a one-day event of Baptism, but it is an opportunity to reach parents in seeing the big picture. The big picture is that WE are responsible for carrying on our Catholic Christian faith as adult church members and by the way we lead our children. I have also come to realize that it is not only a new parent’s responsibility, but it is our responsibility as a church community at large to take our faith seriously. If we truly want to have a church ten, twenty, or thirty years from now, we have to make sure it happens by participating in our faith now. It has hit me that it is up to us, here and now, to decide what kind of church we want to have in the future. As with all worthwhile aspects of life, what we do now directly impacts what the future will hold. Let’s make sure that we give the future generation, our children, a church that is vital, spirit-filled, and having an impact on those outside our borders. If we don’t do it, who will? I cannot imagine a world without a “light on a hill”, that is our church, Christ’s church, in a lost world. Let’s be prayerful, active, non-complacent, church members. So let’s help out in social ministries, teaching CCD, or singing in the choir. Our existence depends on it.
