Things to Know

DismissalOnce school has been dismissed, children leaving from the Blue Podwalk up must depart with their guardians and go straight to their cars. Please do not stay and allow your students to play on the hill, the grassyareas or the playground outside of the school. Those areas are for after-care only. Thank you.

be placed around the school for students to put new and unused schoolsupplies in. There will also be an envelope attached to the box for small donations which willbe used to purchase school supplies. Sixth grader, Paige Schedler, will personally bedelivering these supplies to Trapiche Elementary School in Costa Rica this March. Please seethe list below of the supplies that the school is in need of.

Nysmith School Shirts Order FormsYour child will receive one shirt for free automatically on Field Day.These shirts have a collar and are dress code compliant! Please use thisform if you would like to order additional shirts. Please complete thisform and return your payment to the business office by Friday February22nd.

If you sponsor a Nysmith School team and would like to have shirts for the team to wear atcompetitions, please fill out this form and return it to Ken Nysmith. The school is happy toprovide free shirts to the competing children and up to 2 coaches for free.

Mid-Year Parent Satisfaction SurveyAs you know, the Nysmith School is committed to continuousimprovement. We value your opinions and experiences and wouldappreciate your feedback on how this school year is progressing so far. We're particularly interested in feedback on how we can improve andbetter serve your family. We invite you to participate in our 2018-19 Mid-year Parent Satisfaction Survey. National Junior Honor SocietyIt is time for your child to consider applying for membership to theNational Junior Honor Society. The purpose of the NJHS is to createenthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate a desire to render service,promote leadership, and develop character. It is an honorable andvaluable organization. More information can be foundat www.njhs.us/ NJHS is open to all 7th, 8th, and second semester6th graders. All students must have and maintain a cumulative grade point average of A- (3.6)since the beginning of 6th grade. Students will also need to commit a total 10 service hoursper year. Career DayCareer Day is coming up on March 13! We are seeking parents tovolunteer the morning of March 13 to speak to 4th through 8th-gradestudents about their exciting careers! The goal of Career Day is to allowstudents to be exposed to career knowledge outside of their currentareas of study. Careers can develop very uniquely from early choices. 4th - 8th graders are invited to present their science fair projects along with the othersymposium exhibitors. In addition, if you are part of a STEM-related club/group or team, orhave anything STEM-centered that you are working on and you'd like to share it with others atthe Symposium, let us know! SheSoft Conference & ChampionshipCalling all 5th - 8th grade girls! Registration is now open forthe second annual SheSoft Championship and Conference.This year's event will take place on June 7th - 9th, right herein the DC metro area. Those who are interested in competing for either an "InnovationAward" or "Technologist Award," can register learn more and register online here. Championship applications will be accepted from now until May 1, 2019.

Founded by Nysmith alumnus, Kirthi Kumar, SheSoft is a non-profit organization dedicated tobridging the gender gap in technology by empowering young girls in upper elementary andmiddle school ages through seminars, webinars, workshops and software applicationcompetitions.

AIC FencingAIC Fencing is now offering after school program. Our top quality professional fencingcoaches will work with your child on the fencing basic movements, fencing footwork,agility, speed and conditioning. We goal is to get our children into great shape physically in afun, safe, structured and friendly environment.
