It celebrates the power of human endeavor and energy in the run up to the Paralympic Games.

A flame will be lit in each of the UK’s capital cities

Wales’ flame will be lit in Cardiff on Monday 27 August 2012

You are invited to the Flame Festivals.

We want the whole of the UK to be involved in the Flame Festivals.

There will be an evening Flame Festival in each nation

There will be lantern making events before the Flame Festivals.

People from all communities will be invited to take part in a lantern procession along with Paralympic Torchbearers.

The Paralympic Flame will then travel to London in a 24 hour Torch Relay

Stoke Mandeville is the birthplace of the Paralympic Games.

At Stoke Mandeville the four flames will join together to create the London 2012 Paralympic Flame.

580 Torchbearers, in teams of five, will carry the Torch to the Stadium in London.

The four flames will travel to Stoke Mandeville on Tuesday 28 August 2012

The Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony is the evening of Wednesday 29 August 2012.

We will tell you about the Paralympic Games Torchbearers will be chosen soon.

We will also give you ideas about how else you can get involved in the Paralympic Torch Relay.

The three Presenting Partners of the Paralympic Torch Relay are BT, Lloyds TSB and Sainsbury’s.

We are pleased to be working with them.

The first Paralympic Torch Relay took place at the Seoul 1988 Paralympic Games.

920 Torchbearers carried the flame. The flame was flown by plane to each of Australia’s state capitals.

Sydney 2000

There were 282 Torchbearers. 111 were people with a disability.

There has been a Torch Relay at every Summer and Winter Paralympic Games since.

680 Torchbearers carried the flame through 54 areas of Greece visiting a number of famous sites from history.

850 Torchbearers carried the flame along two routes through modern and ancient China, finishing in Bejing.
