Welcome to the LOMA Society of Nebraska 2011. Our activities for this year will be similar to years past. The 2011 Calendar of Events will soon be posted on our updated website. This year the Spring Dinner meeting will be held in Lincoln, and the Fall Recognition Dinner will be in Omaha. Both dinners will be at an Embassy Suites Hotel - the Spring one is at the Embassy Suites Lincoln (near campus) and the Fall dinner is at the Embassy Suites in La Vista (by Cabela's) We will also continue to look for community service projects for our group. I would encourage everyone to become involved. Details on these types of activities will be distributed as they become avail- able. We once again have a group of Board members who are hard working and dedicated. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we lost our Treasurer just before Budget time. Everyone worked together to get the Budget set and find a new Treasurer. Throughout the year, I expect business as usual with continued excellent results. We have already had a successful Spring Breakfast meeting with an enthusiastic group of attendees. Our website is undergoing additional changes. We have a new group of webmasters, and they will be working on updates to the site’s content. Look for ongoing changes in the near future. I look forward to another great year with the Society. I will see you on May 19th at the Spring Dinner meeting in Lincoln. Get involved in the Society! LOMA Society Balance Sheet as of March 31, 2011

Spring Breakfast Meeting, March 24 On March 24, our annual Spring Breakfast Meeting was held at Ma-honey State Park. The speaker was Donald Costello who pre-sented on “Information Technol-ogy: Yesterday, Today and Tomor-row”.

Donald spoke about how much technology has changed over the years and how much it will continue to change. We’ve gone from Binary to Fortran, 1 CPU to multiple CPU’s and DOS to Windows operat-ing systems. Inputs and Outputs have changed as well as memory over the years. He presented that we could see a 700% growth in the next 3-5 years for cell phones. Telecommunications are going to have to find a way to keep up with that. Donald also suggested that security could end all computing if we’re not careful. In order to keep yourself marketable and up to date, do something to develop your intellectual property: attend lectures, take a class, read a book. He sug-gested ‘How to Work as a Team’ and ‘Business Proc-ess Diagramming’.
