A Prayer through Transition

Dear God, St. Luke's is a garden of Your Word.

As we transition through our seasons, help us prepare fertile ground through honesty and prayer.

Plant in our hearts seeds of Your Grace, that we may nurture one another, and blossom in Your Spirit.

Strengthen our trust in your good-ness, that we may generously share your blessings.

And when the time is right, send us Your servant to complete our search, that together, in Your garden, we may sow the Good News of Salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, now and Forever. AMEN

The Wonderful (or Weird) World of Episcopalians By Cher Stone

When I was cutting hair I would spend at least 20 minutes each day explaining Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, Lent and why should we observe these old traditional Holy Days. So in my practiced way, here goes.

Lent is a penitential season of the Christian calendar. Meaning the focus is on prayer, meditation, fasting, repentance and examination of your relationship with God, Christ, Creation and the Holy Spirit.

Historically this time was used for preparation for those wanting to be baptized and those who had committed notorious sins and wanted to be restored to the Christian Community. The word Lent is from Old English and means Spring, the lengthening of days.

The forty days of Lent extend from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday, omitting Sundays. So you may break your fast on those Sundays. The last three days of Lent are the sacred Triduum of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. Nowadays, all Christians are invited to the observance of a Holy Lent. If you would like to begin a practice of prayer and the study of the Way of Jesus, please join the Wednesday evening offering of Centering Prayer, Soup and Bread dinner and a short Taize service 5:30-7:30 p.m.

April Outreach:

CEI Scholarship

Donations for our April monthly outreach will go to College of Eastern Idaho. Did you know that St. Luke’s provides for a scholarship at CEI (formerly EITC) ? We have been supporting our local higher education students through this outreach for many years. Representatives from St. Luke’s are invited to attend their scholarship event each year and meet the recipients, most of whom have written notes thanking us for helping them with their education.

Donation checks should be made out St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with CEI or April Outreach in the memo portion.

Tomorrow’s Paradise Point By Buddy Hall

The St. Luke’s Capital Campaign for Paradise Point, our diocesan camp in McCall, was a great success. Our parish goal was $20,000 and our total received

or pledged at this writing is $21,770.

Thank you to everyone who con-tributed. Commitment cards are still available in the church office. Pledges can be made over three years. Checks should be made out to “Tomorrow’s Paradise Point.”

If you have made a pledge to the

Tomorrow’s Paradise Point Campaign

and would like to make your payments by direct deposit, Buddy Hall has the form to do so. She can be reached at 208-351-9376 or [email protected].

The St. Luke’s Prayer Chain

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will,

he hears us.” 1 John 5:14

The St. Luke’s Prayer Chain is made up of church members who are called to the ministry of prayer. Any member of the Prayer Chain may be called to initiate a “prayer request.” This request is then passed along the chain until it returns to the member who received the call. (If one member is unavailable to receive the call, Prayer Chain members will call the following person on the list.) The Prayer Chain members will keep all prayer requests confidential. To all of those who attended and gave time and helped with arrangements for our mother’s funeral, Carol, Frank and I thank you for

all you did. Mom wasn’t in Idaho Falls long, but she loved St. Luke’s and those who visited her as she declined. The service was lovely and the reception was beautiful.

Again, thank you all so much.
