Welcome to Grosvenor Vale tonight for some good old FA Cup

floodlit action. We extend a very warm welcome to our visitors Bristol Manor Farm FC, their management team, officials, players and supporters. We hope you enjoy your brief stay with us this evening. As a point of order, should you be in any doubt, there will be a period of 30 minutes extra time played following the regulation 90 minutes if tonight’s game ends in a draw. Should the scores still be level after extra time, penalties will be taken to determine which team will progress to the 4th qualifying round. Finances are always tight as we continue to operate a sustainable football club. As always at this time of the season,

we are looking for supporters or businesses to step forward as sponsors to ensure we remain competitive on the pitch. We have a range of Matchday and Ball Sponsorship packages available to suit all pockets, as well as our ever popular Kit Sponsorship that allows you to show your support for your favourite player. Full details of all these packages, which can be customised to your individual requirements, can be found in the pages of this very (hastily compiled) programme. Volunteering is also a fantastic way to help the club. There are still a number of vacancies within both the Club and Supporters Club and I know they would be glad to hear from you if you can spare some time. Enjoy the game Mark

THE STONES INTERVIEW BY TIM PARKS

side? Alexander Arnold of Liverpool, Tom Davies for Everton, while Reece Oxford and Kaylen Hinds were also very good players who were at West Ham and Arsenal at the time.Did you know anything about WFC before you signed? Not really, I knew about the Raider but that’s it. The kit man Tony has filled me in with a bit more knowledge about the club though. What are your impressions of the club, the stadium, the pitch etc? I’ve been really impressed. The pitch is lovely and the stadium fills up very well on a match day. It’s great to play in front of a lot of vocal fans as that’s a new experience for me.

It’s Aston OxboroughThere were a few nervous

Stones fans at the begin-ning of August when the

news emerged that our brilliant long-serving keeper Jonathan North would be missing for the big kick-off against Dartford. But cometh the hour, cometh the big man. A chance scouting trip by Dean Brennan to watch Norwich’s reserve side turned up trumps when he managed to convince City to send their outstanding young keeper Aston Oxborough on a four-month-long loan to Grosvenor Vale. And now, ten weeks on, the young Norfolk lad has firmly established himself as a bit of a Wealdstone folk hero as the clean sheets and the wins started rolling in. “I’m really enjoying it and ex-pect to be here until early Janu-ary’ he said on Sunday. ‘But it’s out of my hands - I just do what the club tell me to and it’s pos-sible I may stay for the season unless a higher-ranked club want to take me on loan’. There has only

been one glitch - the opening goal against Ha-vant when his kick out was blocked. “Yes, that was awful at the time, but I saw Hugo Lloris do something similar on Match of the Day that evening which made me feel a bit better. It can happen to even the top keepers”How did the loan deal come about? I’m not sure to be honest. Norwich told me about it and said that Wealdstone needed a goal-keeper whilst Northy was injured. It was a good opportunity for me to come and play some senior matches so we went for it.

Were you in the youth team at Norwich? From what age? And have you always

been tall?! Yes I’ve been at Norwich since the age of 10. I’ve seen everyone come and go and it’s good to see Nor-wich doing so well again (back in the Premier League) and in such good hands. Yeah I’ve always been the tall-est in my age groups growing up.What’s the favourite/most memo-rable game you’ve ever played in and why?Probably my England U-16 debut. We beat Denmark 3-1. That was a proud moment, not much beats that.Have you always been a goalkeeper? I used to play as a centre back. Then quickly established I didn’t like run-ning so switched to goalkeeper. What was the most memorable save you’ve made? I made a double save from a free kick against Wolves for Norwich U-23’s. It was heading towards the top corner and I got a hand to it, but the spin on the ball meant it was travelling back towards towards goal so I had to quickly get up and claw it away for a second time. It was nominated for U-23 save of the season 2017/2018.But I was very happy about my save for Wealdstone against Oxford too!Whereabouts do you live? I live in Wyndham, just outside Norwich. How do you travel to training and games? I drive to training and games. It takes me two and a half hours so it takes a bit of sacrifice but it’s worth it.

What’s the best team you’ve ever played in? Probably the England team I

was involved in at U16 and U17 level.Who were the standout players in that

“I’m really enjoying playing for the Stones...and I might be hereinto 2020, it’s out of my hands’

Save of the season? Aston gets across acrobatically to claw away this Oxford City freekick on September 7, somehow flipping the ball over the crossbar. Awesome !

The Oxford players can’t believe The Ox has kept it out.. with good reason. Northy reckoned he should’ve held it

to break the deadlock three minutes before the interval when Jamie Bird was set through on-goal but Stevens was able to chase down and intercept the strike.Wealdstone came with an instant reply to

score before half-time themselves when Stevens was picked out at the back-post by Billy Clif-ford’s corner and Stevens’ effort cannoned off the inside of the post but went agonisingly wide.

The game reached half-time and the Stones appeared to grasp a stronger grip on the game after Stevens’ close-effort almost broke the deadlock, but the game was goalless.

There were early problems for Bristol Manor Farm at the start of the second half caused by Lewis at the start of the second half, as his curling effort from the edge of the box was awk-

wardly saved by John.Just shy of the hour-mark and the Stones were awarded a penalty after Stevens was hacked down in the 18-yard box. After various altercations, Lafayette’s penalty

was low to John’s right and he was equal to the effort to keep the tie goalless. The home side almost took advantage of the penalty miss moments later when Jamie Adams’ drive from the right dragged away from the far-post.Lafayette persisted to find an opener and

he glanced Stevens’ cross from the right across goal and just wide of the near-post.The most threatening player in the second half for the Stones was Lewis and after chipping the ball over John in the area, he was denied by a fantastic goal-line clearance by Steve Kingdon

with less than 10 minutes to go.

Wealdstone were held to a 0-0 stalemate on their travels against Bristol Manor Farm in the third qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup

on Saturday afternoon. The best chances for the Stones fell to defender

Connor Stevens who hit the post before half-time, while top scorer Ross Lafayette’s penalty was saved in the second period as the Farm earn

a replay. The home side were handed the first opportunity of the game within the opening five minutes as Joe Tumelty’s shot from the edge of the box was on-target but did not trouble Stones

‘keeper Aston Oxborough. Wealdstone’s first half-chance fell to in-form Dennon Lewis in the

18th minute. After good link-up play between Nick Arnold and Jacob Mendy on the right, the latter squared it to Lewis in the box but was unable to convert. The home side started brightly but the Stones were starting to gain ascendency in the game. Following Jerome Okimo’s cross from the left in the 25th minute, Mendy attempted

a trademark left-footed strike from outside the penalty area which flew wide. Stones full-back

Michee Efete was gifted an opportunity after winning the ball high up the pitch, his curling

effort from the left couldn’t find the near-post. An onslaught of attacks from the National League

South leaders included efforts from winger Lewis, centre-half Okimo and midfielder Billy Clifford were blocked and saved by Farm ‘keeper Ben John. John was called into action 10 minutes

before the half-time break when Danny Green’s winding run resulted in another save from the

shot-stopper. The Farm had a chance
