WEDNESDAY NOON HEALING SERVICE | RM B-14 (WILSON ROOM) St. Matthew’s clergy invites you to (re)discover the Wednesday Noon Healing Service. This service is a warm and intimate celebration of the Holy Communion, including a dignified ritual of “laying on of hands” for those who come for healing. Special emphasis, too, is given to those holy women and holy men whose days on the liturgical calendar we honor during the year. Submitted by Travis Helms

TIME TO THINK ABOUT JOINING FORMING FAMILIES! It's that time of year where we pause from our summer shenanigans to register for all things school year. If you are interested in joining this year's Forming Families tribe, plan to keep your Thursday evenings free. Our tribe will gather on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Thursdays of each month September to May from 5:45ish-7:15ish pm. That time may wiggle, depending on tribe context and need. We gather and eat together, then split for program time that is parallel and works on one topic per month. If not joining, keep your eyes open for Thursday evening speaker events in the late fall and spring and are open to the greater FF community. Please contact Kristin Braun at [email protected] if interested or for more info. Submitted by Kristin Braun, Facilitator ♥

YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE CARITAS FOOD PANTRY HELPS FILL AN EMPTY TUMMY Caritas Food Pantries provide much needed food supplies to families challenged by a lack of financial resources. Your help in bringing one non-perishable food item each Sunday helps ensure that the pantries are well stocked. At the moment, there is a particular need for chili, chunky soups, crackers, pasta sauce with meat (cans or plastic bottles), canned hams, canned mixed vegetables, and canned fruit. We would be grateful if you would check that the items are not past their expiration dates as, unfortunately, they will have to be thrown away if they are. Items may be dropped off at the Caritas Corner in the Sanctuary Commons or you

are welcome to leave a donation of a $1 or more towards purchasing food for the pantry in the donation box there. Thank you as always. Submitted by Jane Baxter Lynn

INTERESTED IN LEARNING ABOUT MISSIONAL COMMUNITIES AT ST. MATT’S? With support from the diocese and training from the Episcopal Health Foundation, St. Matt’s has entered into a year-long program to identify and create 2 or 3 missional communities meant to address unacceptable realities in the neighborhood surrounding the church. “Missional communities are spiritual and relational outposts for those that cannot, or will not, participate in a traditional expression of Church.” (EDOT webpage). St. Matt’s will be first working with Helping Our Neighbors (a good example of a missional community), and then be identifying another group or two. We have so much to offer, we hope you’ll join us in sharing our hearts and gifts with our community. If you’re interested in joining us in this work, please contact Kristin Braun ([email protected]). Submitted by Kristin Braun

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY—YOU’RE INVITED! Every Wednesday morning a lively group meets at St. Matthews to knit and/or crochet pieces of handiwork to be blessed and passed on to those who need comfort and healing. We welcome everyone and are happy to teach the craft if you need instruction. Please feel free to join us if even for the fellowship. We meet at 9:30 in Rm B-14 (Wilson Room) and serve coffee and refreshments. What a wonderful gift, to be “wrapped in prayer” by a beautiful shawl. You do not need to be a member of the group to request a shawl. Please think of us if you know of someone in need of this special gift. For information, please email Valorie Bray at [email protected]. Submitted by Valorie Bray

MID-YEAR FINANCIAL REPORT As you can read below, we are in a solid financial position through the first six months of the year. The vestry, clergy, and staff are grateful and impressed with the congregational financial commitment to the mission and ministry of the church and share that enthusiasm and financial commitment with you. In these summer months into the fall, we encourage everyone to continue in this excellent fulfillment of pledges, which enables the church leadership to focus on the mission and ministry of your church with renewed energy. Thank you, one and all. Submitted by Chris Schumacher, Business Manager

REPORT FROM THE KITCHEN Last week, we passed the health inspection of the kitchen with a 97 (out of 100). There are some small changes in the kitchen as a result of the inspection. Every group that uses the kitchen is asked to sign the sign-in sheet and follow the cleanup check list. These are small steps but they will make a big difference to Chef Robert. In addition, the kitchen has had some significant repairs with the dishwasher, one of the ovens, and ice maker. It is normal for simultaneous breakdowns when equipment is installed at the same time. OFFSHOOTS SMALL GROUPS

Offshoots small groups are a chance for parishioners to share our passions with one another and our neighbor. This initia-tive grows out of the idea that wherever Christians are present, the body of Christ is revealed. So have some fun with these groups, get to know your fellow parishioners, and invite a friend to “come and see” a little glimpse of the Kingdom. If you want to form your own Offshoot with support from church staff and clergy, email [email protected] and [email protected]. Once you have the okay from Fr. Christian, please email the group info to [email protected] for entry into the WW and website. Formation of groups is a rolling process throughout the year, so keep your ideas coming!
