Read A man asked the Messenger of Allah (pbuh): “Which act in Islam is the best?” He (pbuh) replied, “To give food, and to greet everyone, whether you know or you do not.” [Bukhari and Muslim].
The Prophet (pbuh) said: “Envy is justified in regard to two types of persons only: a man whom Allah has given knowledge of the Qur’an, and so he recites it during the night and during the day; and a man whom Allah (God) has given wealth and so he spends from it during the night and during the day.” [Bukhari and Muslim].
The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, “He who performs the Wudu (cleaning yourself before prayer)’ perfectly (i.e., according to Sunnah), his sins will leave from his body, even from under his nails.” [Muslim].
Born around 570CE in Makkah (Mecca)
His father died before he was born and his mother when he was 6
He was therefore an orphan and quite poor
His Grandfather and Uncle looked after him
His Grandfather was a spiritual man who believed in the Abrahamic tradition of one God
His Uncle was a trader and Muhammad followed him and also became a trader
At 25, he married his employer, Khadijah
His life could have been very easy, but Muhammad was not happy with the sinful practices around him (gambling, drunkenness etc) and the way women and the poor were treated
He followed his Grandfather’s way and started praying and meditating regularly
He spent much time meditating in the mountains surrounding Makkah to get away and be peaceful
At the age of 40, One day Muhammadwas meditating in a cave in the mountains when he received a revelation from God
In this revelation, an angel appeared to Muhammad and told him to write something down
Muhammad explained he could not read or
write, but the Angel told him to write down the words of Allah, and he did. These words became the beginning of the Qur’an
Muhammad began preaching the words of Allah, the one true God but at first many dismissed him for being a liar or being mad
In 622CE, someone tried to kill Muhammad. For this reason, he left Makkah and moved to a place called Madinah
Muhammad set up the first Muslim community here, in Madinah
For many years the people of Madinah fought with those in Makkah
Eventually they defeated them and Muhammad returned to his home in Makkah
Makkah is now considered the most holy place for Muslims and Madinah, the second holiest place.
Makkah has even become the Muslim place of pilgrimage
Muhammad saw the Abrahamic religions that he believed had the correct way of thinking
... but saw that they were not quite right and something deeper was there
This is how Islam came about – a new way of viewing the Abrahamic religions, which is seen by Muslims as being true to its founders
