Transcript of The life of a cell named Bob. Growing up – The cell Cycle.
The cell Cycle
• G1 Phase: During this period cells do most of there growing. The cell grows and makes new proteins and organelles.
• S Phase: Chromosomes (DNA) are replicated.• Once DNA replication is complete cell enters
next cycle• G2 phase: Shortest of the phases. Organelles
and molecules necessary for cell division are produced.
• M phase: Cell is now ready to divide
Cell Division- Mitosis and Cytokinesis
• What is the purpose of mitosis?• Mitosis is the process of forming identical daughter cells by
replicating and dividing the original chromosomes, in effect making a cellular xerox. Mitosis deals only with the segregation of the chromosomes and organelles into daughter cells.
• Cytokinesis is the actual division of the cells cytoplasm.• We divide Mitosis into how many phases?• 4• Prophase• Metaphase• Anaphase• Telophase
