DECEMBER NEWSLETTER 2016 “Over 100 years of fun”
LEXINGTON TIMESTHE
: /LexingtonGolf
FROM THE PRESIDENTThanks to you, our Lexington Golf and Country Club employees will have a merrier holiday, as $11,775 will be disbursed to our staff, the people who make our club experience happen. A special note of appreciation goes out to the eleven members who contributed additional funds over the $35 that was billed.
Thanksgiving was made better for sixteen Lexington families who received a turkey from those members who played in the Beat the Pro Turkey Shoot. The entry fee was a frozen turkey, which was donated to the Rockbridge Area Relief Association to assist families in need through their food pantry.
In addition, Jeff, Tom, and Mike were in the spirit of giving, allowing 13 members to earn double shop credit for beating the Pros!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all! Hope to see you at the Club!
Bill RussellPresident, Lexington Golf and Country Club
FROM THE GENERAL MANAGERAs the days get shorter (and colder), we delight in the changing seasons.
Cold ears and frozen toesGloves and mittens Boots and flannelA hot toddy and a warm fireplaceDelicious soup and comfort food
It’s that time of year when we prepare for friends and family visiting, kids coming home from school and the hustle and bustle of the Holiday season.
Come enjoy lunch or dinner with friends and family! Reserve a table by the fireplace, have a bowl of Bunyan’s delicious soup and get the chill out of your bones! Let Betty Jo and the rest of our staff take great care of you and your family during the holidays. And don’t forget about the wonderful activities we have planned! Please note and plan your schedule accordingly. The Club will be closed January 2-16 and will reopen on January 17 unless we have unseasonably warm weather, at which point the golf shop will be open.
Ann and I want to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas. If you are traveling during the holidays, please do so safely. And if you’re in town, please stop in and say hello. May God Bless you and your loved ones this holiday season.
Warmest Regards,Mike AhrnsbrakGeneral Manager

FROM THE GOLF PROFESSIONALJust a short time ago(on April 11) I moved to the Lexington area and began working for LGCC as the Head Golf Professional. I have very much enjoyed my new job and have enjoyed getting to know everyone. We have a very nice facility and a very friendly membership which has been a pleasure to work for. Also a big thank you to the Board of Directors and Up To Par Management for bringing in the new fleet of Yamaha carts. The new fleet has many new improvements.
I look forward to the 2017 season and would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Regards,Jeff Wagner
FROM THE SUPERINTENDENTMost of the leaves have finally dropped and have been cleaned up. Always the most frustrating time of the year. The irrigation system has been winterized and we are preparing to start our sharpening and preventative maintenance on the equipment.
I want to thank everyone for their encouraging words and suggestions throughout the year. It certainly helps get us over the hump during trying times. I also want to thank Jerry, Lee, and Charles for all their hard work this year. I am impressed by the amount of work they get done week after week. They are really the ones that keep the course in shape.
Merry Christmas to everyone and I look forward to the new year as we continue to improve our operation for our members and guests.See all of you on the course!Jeff Karlstrand

FROM THE CHEFDecember is the twelfth and last month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian Calendars. It is the seventh month to have the length of 31 days. December got its name from the Latin word decem (meaning ten) because it was originally the tenth month of the year in the Roman calendar. December is the month of the winter solstice (the day with the fewest daylight hours) in the Northern Hemisphere. The zodiac signs for the month of December are Sagittarius (until December 21) and Capricorn (December 22 onward). This month’s flower is the narcissus. The birthstones for December are turquoise, zircon, and tanzanite.
A thought for the month, I just read:“Now is the time of fresh startsThis is the season that makes everything new. There is a longstanding rumor that Spring is the timeof renewal, but that’s only if you ignore the depressingclutter and din of the season. All that floweringand budding and birthing--- the messy youthfulnessof Spring actually verges on squalor. Spring is too busy, too full of itself, too much like a 20-year-old to be the best time for reflection, re-grouping, and starting fresh. For that you need December. You need to have livedthrough the mindless biological imperatives of your life (to bud, and flower, and show off) before you can see that a landscape of new fallen snow is THE REAL YOU.December has the clarity, the simplicity, and the silence you need for the best FRESH START of your life.” - Vivian Swift, When Wanderers Cease to Roam: A Traveler’s Journal of Staying PutFrom myself and the culinary staff here at Lexington Golf and Country Club, “Warmest wishes for a happy holiday season!”
