THE LABORATORY METHOD
IT IS A TEACHING PROCEDURE DEALING WITH FIRSTHAND EXPERIENCES REGARDING
MATERIALS OR FACTS OBTAINED FROM INVESTIGATION OR EXPERIMENTATION.
TYPES OF LABORATORY METHOD
1. EXPERIMENTAL
IT AIMS TO TRAIN PUPILS IN PROBLEM-SOLVING WITH
ACQUISITION OF INFORMATION AND MOTOR SKILL.
2. OBSERVATIONAL
THE ACQUISITION OF FACTS IS DOMINANT AIM OF METHOD.
STEPS OF THE LABORATORY METHOD
1. INTRODUCTORY STEP FOR ORIENTATION AND MOTIVATION
ITS INCLUDES THE DETERMINATIONOF WORK TO BE DONE.
OBJECTIVES
1. Make use of the power of observation and reasoning
2. Manipulate learning equipment
3. Make use of reality to make learning easier and more permanent
4. Make use of the scientific attitudes
5. Use the laboratory method or procedure
ADVANTAGES
1. Learning by doing
2. Impressions through several sense make learning more effective
3. Undergoing actual experience is more vivid.
4. It is a direct preparation for life.
DISADVANTAGES
1. Uneconomical way of learning in time and material.
2. Does not give much training in verbal expression and when the same equipment is used most of the time, its use becomes mechanical (used without much thinking anymore)
