Brothers, this newsletter has been the hardest to get my head around so far. I have so many thoughts going on that I don’t know how or where to begin, but first things first! OUR FAITH: As brothers in Christ, we are called through faith to give, and give until it HURTS!!! Part of Pope Francis’ call is for us to attend to our brothers and sisters in need. The Magnificat reading on Monday evening quotes LUKE 14:13-15 which reads, {Jesus said} “When you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” We are very blessed as Roman Catholics to have many models to help us walk our journey through faith. In their own way, Blessed Pope JP II, Emeritus Pope Benedict, and Pope Francis remind us to become better Catholics/ Christians in order that we may serve our brothers and sisters as Jesus taught us to do during his time on earth. These passages, men, and vision bring into focus what the Knights of Columbus stand for and continue to hold as sacred. We are reminded of the latest natural disaster in the Philippines. We pray for them all and, as Knights and Catholics, we step up and do the right thing, whether it be monetary assistance, praying for their recovery, or being onsite to help wherever needed. God bless these men and women who show the way to God’s calling! OUR VETERANS: On November 11th, we honored, celebrated and THANKED all past veterans and our troops currently serving, protecting, and assuring our freedoms in this great land of the United States of America. Brothers, this newsletter has been the hardest to get my head around so far. I have so many thoughts going on that I don’t know how or where to begin, but first things first!!

OUR FAITH:!

As brothers in Christ, we are called through faith to give, and give until it HURTS!!! For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”!

We are very blessed as Roman Catholics to have many models to help us walk our journey through faith. In their own way, Blessed Pope JP II, Emeritus Pope Benedict, and Pope Francis remind us to become better Catholics/Christians in order that we may serve our brothers and sisters as Jesus taught us to do during his time on earth.!

God bless these men and women who show the way to God’s calling!!

OUR VETERANS:!

On November 11th, we honored, celebrated and THANKED all past veterans and our troops currently serving, protecting, and assuring our freedoms in this great land of the United States of America.

Again, in keeping with our Knights of Columbus vision, we look to support our military, their families, and those presently protecting our freedoms from the far off venues of the Middle East to our own shores here in the US. We can never thank these men and women enough for stepping up and saying YES to the call of duty serving in WW I, WW II, Korea, Vietnam, and all the other places that we asked them to stand for FREEDOM and our beliefs to secure the American dream. !

Finally I want to echo what I did in the October newsletter. Continue to pray the prayer of the YEAR OF FAITH in order that this great land of ours and its citizens will be watched over by our Creator.!

Vivat Jesus,!

Page 4: The Knight Writer - Knights of Columbus 893 Council 9349 Knight Writer... · Christians in order that we may serve ... • Form 100- Please return completed forms to the ... degree.

• Concerning our corporate communion events during the year, I ask that all of our Knights and their Ladies assemble in the gathering space prior to entering the church. This helps to show our church community the strong presence of our Council and Assembly and that we support each other.!

• Kitchen account – A kitchen committee has been formed to review the existing processes and to further detail exacting procedures in order to conform to our original commitments. The first meeting was Tuesday, October 22, 2013. The committee will present a report to the council body, and then solicit comments. Please submit comments writing to the DGK, Brother Tino Martinez no later than November 13, 2013. The committee consists of the DGK, Treasurer, FS, Marcel Savoie, and the GK.!

• Council Christmas Party: Knights and their families are invited to attend our annual Christmas Party, which will be held at the Roxborough Community Center on December 7th. A chairperson is needed for the event.!

• Cleanup on C470. We need a chairperson to organize this event. It is done twice a year and requires about 6 or 7 men.!

• Once again, there is a desperate need for a Council Recorder! Chaplain’s Report!• No report. Treasurer’s Report – Ken Sharp!• A copy of Brother Ken’s report is on file with the minutes for viewing. An analysis is now being

conducted on the budget and income, and will be presented at the next meeting. Fund raising ideas are needed!

sent out in about a month and a half. Trustees report - Jerry O’Connor!• The charity committee met Wednesday, October 15th. Present were: Mike Smoody, Ken Sharp, Joe

Padia, Frank McGinley, Dave Delmont and Jerry O’Connor. Requests under consideration were:!- Right to Life Ministry (Karen Mandolfo) – Approved, $150 for prizes for a logo contest for

students, grades 7 through 12. Monies will be charged to the Pro-Life budget.!- Lady Knights, $2000 request. Not approved immediately because the amount would exhaust the

charity fund, and the fact that it does not fit the charter of the Charity Fund budget. The larger $25,000 fund was considered, but it is restricted by the state to only be used for charitable purposes. The state advocate was contacted for advice, and his response is pending.!

- Cowboy UP, a non-profit that provides equestrian therapy to veterans suffering from PTSD. $2500 was approved from the $25,000 charity fund.!

- $3000 request from Lighthouse Catholic Media, for books to be given to parishioners at Christmas. This amount exceeds the charity budget, and also doesn't fit the criteria for that fund. Plus the parish has decided not to support this, so the request was not further considered. !

- Stacy Darcy, a candidate for vocation to the sisterhood, requests $1000 for medical insurance. This meets the criteria of the RSVP budget, and the $1000 was approved.!

- Colorado Disaster Relief Fund- $500 was decided to be awarded from the charity budget.!Report of Membership/Retention Director - Marcel Savoie!• Volunteers are needed for the upcoming community Sunday, November 3rd.!• An Open House will be held on November 13th.!• New members: Tom O'Neil. On a snowy afternoon in the Mile High City, the Knights of Columbus joined forces with the Denver Broncos in a Coats for Kids distribution that provided warm winter coats to students from an inner city school in Denver. !

Numerous members of the Broncos family joined with State Deputy Chuck Page and a team of Knights of Columbus volunteers to help children find the right coats. Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio and his wife Linda helped organize the event through a collaboration with Catholic Athletes for Christ. Others present included Center Steve Vallos and his wife, Lindsay Vallos; as well as Robin Fox, wife of head coach John Fox; and Anna Burns Welker, wife of star wide receiver Wes Welker. !

The distribution took place at the HQ facility in Greenwood Village, and as the children arrived to receive their coats, a light snow began to fall. “This is a great project, especially for Denver," Linda Del Rio said. “We got the first real snow today, so it’s kind of like providence that we're giving out coats.”!

Jack Del Rio credited the KofC Coats for Kids program and the charitable work of the Knights. “It’s nice to be able to take a break from the normal grind of coaching football and come over here and join up with the Knights of Columbus. A great organization, they (the Knights of Columbus) do a wonderful job of giving - and I think not only just giving back to the community, but maximizing what they have, the resources they have. I’ve been involved with a lot of different charitable projects and I know the Knights of Columbus are excellent about squeezing every last little bit of product out of the dollars that they get.”!

Since 2009, the Knights of Columbus Coats for Kids program has given away more than 125,000 coats to children. Last year nearly, 1000 councils participated in the program in the United States and Canada. A larger distribution is planned for Greeley, Colo on Oct 29. That event will provide coats to children whose families were severely impacted by the devastating floods that struck northern Colorado last month. Members of the Denver Broncos organization are also planning to support that distribution.

Broncos wives and their kids pose for a group shot following a successful KofC Coats for Kids distribution.

"Prayer is not getting man's will done in heaven, but getting God's will done on earth. It is not overcoming God's reluctance but laying hold of God's willingness."!"Only those who see the invisible can attempt the impossible."!"The reason why we obtain no more in prayer is because we expect no more. God usually answers us according to our own hearts."!"Do not make prayer a monologue-make it a conversation."!"Most men pray for power, the strength to do things. Few people pray for love, the quality to be someone."!"Work as if you were to live a hundred years. Pray as if you were to die tomorrow."!"Prayer requires more of the heart than the tongue."!"The greatest tragedy of life is not unanswered prayer, buy un-offered prayer."!"Every great movement of God can be traced to a kneeling figure."!"Our prayers must mean something to us if they are to mean anything to God."!“A man is powerful on his knees.”!"In the happy moments, praise God. In the difficult moments, seek God. In the quiet moments, trust God. In every moment, thank God."!
