The Gospel According to Greg Greg Taylor
On Sunday, at the conclusion of the message on the Beatitudes, I shared a lengthy prayer/
poem I first heard almost twenty years ago during a sermon by my good friend, Jeff Mayfield. It is entitled “The Fellowship of the Unashamed,” and speaks to the type of
commitment Christ followers are called to embrace. Some debate exists on the author of this excellent work – some say it was an African martyr just before his death, while others give credit to Dr. Bob Moorehead. Regardless, the words of this prayer speak to the type of
disciple Jesus had in mind as he shared his first public sermon according to Matthew. Several asked for a copy, so I’ve included this prayer in my weekly article:
I am part of a fellowship of the unashamed. I have Holy Spirit power. The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made. I’m a disciple of Jesus, and I won’t look back, let up, slow down, back away, or be still.
My past is redeemed. My present makes sense. My future is secure. I’m finished and done with low-living, side-walking, small-playing, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tame divisions, mundane talking, cheap giving, and dwarfed goals.
I no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotion, plaudits, or popularity. I don’t have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded, or rewarded.
I now live by faith, lean on his presence, walk by patience, live by prayer and labor by power. My faith is set. My gait is fast. My goal is heaven. My road is narrow. My way is rough. My companions are few. But my God is reliable and my mission clear.
I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded or delayed. I will not flinch in face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of the adversary, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity.
I won’t give up, shut up or let up till I’ve stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up and preached up for the cause of Christ. I’m a disciple of Jesus.
I must go till he comes, give till I drop, preach till all know, and work till he stops me. And when he comes for his own, he will have no problem recognizing me, because my banner will be clear.
Jesus calls us to a radical follower-ship – a life changing, world altering lifestyle that others
are forced to acknowledge and some will be driven to embrace. Jesus called you and me to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world – may we never grow tired of living out this call! Don’t ever forget – we are called to be different and Different is Good.
Blessings to you – keep reading the Word!

Honor is a place of lifting up. When God
honors a believer, He lifts up or exalts that person.
When we refuse to try and take care of ourselves,
we are admitting that we need God‟s help. It‟s an
act of humility, and that act of faith places us in
direct line of God‟s exaltation. When we trust in
God, we are in line for a promotion. God will
honor us and reward us as we place our faith in
Him. “Therefore humble yourselves under the
mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt
you.” 1 Peter 5:6
On the 16th we‟ll enjoy Carol Mc Feeters
Thompson as our guest telling us something that is
very interesting as usual. Then in April we‟ll have
the Old Kitchen Band playing for us and it will be
a fine day of fun and joy. We‟re looking forward
to many programs that will warm our hearts. “The
greatest lesson in life is to know that even fools are
right sometimes.” Winston Churchill
Going to White Pines State Park for a fine
meal and show featuring the “Legacy,” a tribute to
the Andrews Sisters, will bring back many
memories of songs of the past such as
“Chattanooga Choo Choo” and “Don‟t Sit Under
the Apple Tree.” Then in April we‟ll travel to
Starved Rock State Park for a fine time enjoying
the music of Neil Diamond, and the fine beauty
there. Big Bands are the fare in May at the
Celebration River Boat in Moline with sticky rolls
and great food while we cruise the Illinois River.
“Know that you yourself are a miracle.” Norman
Vincent Peale
Instead of wearing yourself out trying to get
rid of your weakness, give it to Jesus. Get your
eyes off what you think is wrong with you and look
to Him. Draw strength from His boundless might.
Let His strength fill up your weaknesses. You
don‟t have to get your act together. You just have
to know where to turn. “My grace is sufficient for
thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”

The time it takes to read 12 pages daily gives the Word the priority and position it
deserves in our lives.
The greater impact, power and benefit of reading this much of God‟s Word at a
time.
Some have not read through the whole Bible and this provides a plan, motivation
and the opportunity to do so.
The overview it gives to read the entire Bible in a short time (90 days) helps us see
it as a whole: God‟s redemption plan from start to finish.
Some have read their Bible regularly in the past, but aren‟t currently doing so and it
will encourage them to renew a daily time in God‟s Word.
Some have never read much, if at all, on their own in the Bible and it will
encourage them to begin a daily time in God‟s Word.
Reading God‟s Word changes us - the more we read, the more we change.
Most books of the Bible will be completely read in 1 or 2 days versus 1 or 2
chapters or a few verses at a time. This gives us a complete picture of each
individual book.
The whole church reading the same thing at the same time has many benefits: we
can more easily share with each other about what God is teaching us, be
accountable to each other, encourage one another…
Read the testimonies of others who have already completed the reading plan at
www.theBiblein90days.com.
Each individual should ask God if this is how they are to read God‟s Word
currently or if He has another plan for them at this time. The 90 day plan may not
be for everyone. Just make sure you have a plan and are in God‟s Word regularly!
A short term commitment is easier to keep than a long term one (we often fade in
April or May in reading through the Bible in a year).
To challenge those who read the Bible regularly already to a higher level of daily
commitment.
“There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation
through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way
or another – showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training
us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks
God has for us.”
2 Timothy 3:16,17: The Message Bible
Why take the challenge to read the Bible in 90 days?
