From the Senior Pastor’s Desk I am so pleased to be able to share some exciting news about upcoming events!

First, Matthew 28:19 says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,

baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit...” We are

to be growing, maturing disciples! Unfortunately, I think that most of us believe

being a growing, thriving disciple just happens as we attend church. But I believe we

must be very deliberate about being disciples. In that light, I am pleased to announce

some discipleship studies in the New Year.

The Miracle of Life Change: How God Transforms His Children. A transformed

life can be yours, but you can't do it alone. Using the Bible and practical

examples, Chip Ingram will show us how to participate in the process of true

metamorphosis (or "morphing") that brings about a completely new you—a you

that's remade from the inside out. This study will begin on 13 January.

Love & Respect: The Love She Most Desires, The Respect He Desperately Needs.

This is a tremendous study for husbands and wives, and moms and dads! This

study will begin on 17 January. The Love and Respect study will culminate in a Marriage Retreat at Ridgecrest

on Feb 12-13. We will have a planning meeting for all of those interested on 10

Jan at 5 PM in the choir room. Finally, to our Church & Community Artists! On the 31st of January at 6 PM,

JHBC is planning a Silent Art Auction,Chili Cook Off and Cake Bake Off. Would

you artists consider donating one or more pieces of your art work to this event? All

proceeds will go to the Vision 2017 Fund.

Before you say, ‘Well, I’m no artist’, please consider we are looking for all types

of art from pottery, to sewing, quilting, pencil drawings, paintings, jewelry, flower

arrangements…all types of creative endeavors! I am even going to ask Rev. Ronnie

to auction a personalized phone answering message recorded by the JHBC Choir!

At 4:30, items will be set up in McDowell Hall at JHBC. At 6 PM, the

community is invited to observe the art work and make their bids. At the same time

we will enjoy a chili cook off and cake back off – trophies to be awarded! It should

be a wonderful time of fun and fellowship. I am announcing this now so artists will

have time to prepare. Please consider participating and remember all proceeds will

go toward Vision 2017.

I pray this will be a tremendous year for JHBC; growing, thriving, and becoming

the disciples that Christ intends. I hope you will participate in at least one of the

upcoming studies. My God bless His church in 2016!

Page 2: The Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church ANNOUNCER · Love & Respect: The Love She Most Desires, The Respect He Desperately Needs. This is a tremendous study for husbands and wives, and

In case you haven’t heard by now, our youth ministry is going to Canada in July of this

year. Specifically, we’re going to Chateauguay, Quebec, Canada, which is a suburb of

Montreal, to work with The Rock Christian Church, a French Canadian Baptist Church located

in the town.

Quebec is a post-Christian society, meaning that many people who had some experience

with the Christian faith in the past have now left the church. Recent statistics show that

only .4% of Quebecoise are Christian. In other words, four people out of every one thousand

claim to be Christian. With this staggering statistic, French Canadians are truly an unreached

people group.

To help bring the presence of Christ to the area, The Rock Christian Church has begun a

food box ministry that reaches out to their neighbors by providing low-cost, high-quality food

for people who do not have a lot of money for groceries. Most of the people who come are

working class people, but their wages aren’t enough to cover the high cost of living and

groceries. This small church works very hard every week to provide food and a positive

Christian witness to their neighbors. Over time, CBF missionaries have served alongside this

church and several NC Baptist churches have gone and worked with them in the past.

This year, our church is one of at least two who will be traveling to Chateauguay to

work with this church and their food box ministry. We will explore a new place, worship with

the church and experience the hospitality of French Canadians. We will be spending several

days working with the food box ministry, along with learning a new culture, new language, and

new foods. We will also make new friends and encourage a church that is truly on the “front

lines” of ministering to a secular culture.

Our group leaves out on Saturday July 23 and will return the following Saturday, July

30. The total cost of the trip is approximately $400.00. Those who are wanting to participate

should sign up and pay a $100.00 deposit by January 31. We will have having a couple of

fundraisers over the next few months to raise the rest of the money.

If you would like to support our youth in this mission trip, I ask that you do a couple of

things. First, pray. A lot of things need to come together to make this trip happen. Second, you

can give, by contributing to our Youth Mission Fund over the next few months. All the money

in the fund will go toward the cost of the trip. Also, if you’re interested going, I’d love to talk to

you more about it. I’ve already heard from a few of you who have shown interest.

Thank you so much for the support you have shown our youth ministry in our various

mission projects both here in Sanford and around the world. I look forward to seeing what God

is going to do in Canada through our group.

Blessings,

Rich

NOTES FROM REV. RONNIE Winter is finally upon us! Isn’t it amazing even in the cold, we see God’s handiwork. Even though there

are areas within the world that suffer greatly in the winter because of the amount of snow, sleet and ice, we still

see God’s creation. Have you ever taken the time to take a walk in the evening and as you are walking, you

breathe that cold air and you sense a refreshness within your body? What a wonderful feeling to take that deep

breath and get that special tingle all over your body. Isn’t this how God makes us feel when we allow Him to

breath within us.

Winter is one of my most favorite seasons of the year. I love the snow (when we ever get any) and I love

the wintery picturesque scenes that the snow, and even the ice makes when it comes. Again, it’s a wonderment

that only God can create.

I would like to thank all of the children and the Children’s Choir Leaders for all their work in preparation

and the actual presentation of the Children’s Christmas program. The entire church family should be very proud

of them.

Thanks to the Sanctuary Choir, orchestra, narrator, the liturgical dancers, the young family who portrayed

the “holy family”, the ushers, the nursery staff, the choregraphers, the ones who portrayed the shepherds, wise-

men and all the lighting, sound and technical directors, photographers, videographers, and support of the church

staff for all their wonderful work to present the musical Noel (Night of Everlasting Love). We were blessed to

have presented it three times with an approximate total of 948 in attendance for all three performances. It was a

wonderful presentation and many have been extremely complimentary in the way they were blessed during the

worship experience. It took all of us working together as a family to present the message so beautifully. Again,

thanks is not enough for all your time, sacrifices, and devotion to the music ministry that you have given. Much

gratitude and thanksgiving and love goes out to each of you for all you do for me, the church and the music

ministry.

I would like to thank each of you for all the

wonderful goodies, special gifts and the beautiful sentiments

in the cards that I received this Christmas. This hasn’t been

an easy year for me and my emotional state is still tender,

but I’m thankful for friends inside and outside the church

fellowship who have been there for me. Your love and

support has been a life saver for me.

As we are now approaching the New Year, may

each of us commit ourselves to the work of the One who

was born and placed in a lowly manger and lived to die for

us on a cruel cross. Looking forward to a wonderful New

Year with all that lies ahead for us to do for His Kingdom.

Let’s work together in 2016 to spread JOY, LOVE,

and most important PEACE to our church, community, neighbors and pray for peace all over the world.

Dear Church Family & Friends,

Stan would say “Dear Lord,

this Church Family will need to receive a star in their

crown for their support and willingness to do whatever

was needed for my family during my illness and

passing.”

Thank you church family for all your prayers, visits,

cards, phone calls and food. We have been blessed

knowing each of you.

My Dear Church Family,

Thank you for all you have done for me while my new

knees and I get use to each other! Your visits and phone

calls were greatly appreciated as were your greeting

cards and food. Better than all these were your prayers.

I have heard them. I have felt them. God answered you.

He granted me healing! I praise God for you and all He

Dear Jonesboro Heights Baptist,

This is the first time I’ve written a thank you letter

ever. But the spirit laid on me to write you this letter.

First off, I just moved back to NC from Tennessee to start

a new job. Once I got here, and got settled, I started

worrying about getting gas to get to work. So, that

Sunday I went to a church in the area, but never got up

the nerve to ask for help. I hate asking for help! So

anyway, I/m supposed to be at work in Raleigh on

Tuesday. So, Monday, I’m asking, “Lord, what am I

going to do. You’ve given me a job here and I don’t have

the gas to get to work.” By this time the gas light was

on. So, I’m in the car driving and I remember the

church that helped with people during the tornadoes. So,

I drive to Jonesboro Baptist and I see a note on the door

that says, y’all help on Tuesdays. “I/m thinking now

what am I going to do, Lord!?” So, I walk in and talk to

the lady explaining my problem. She has me fill out a

paper and comes back out with two $25 gift cards for

gas! I say all this to say “ever so much thank you! In

Jesus’ name—Thank You for helping!

Thank you again.

DEACON’S CORNER Submitted by Belinda Bond

The Fellowship of Deacons held their monthly meeting on Monday, December seventh. John Hall opened the meeting with scripture based on Acts, chapter four. Peter and John were teaching and proclaiming the resurrection of Jesus Christ. As a result of this preaching they were placed under arrest, but their words were heard and more than five thousand people were saved. The question is “How bold are we in proclaiming the power of Jesus Christ in our daily lives?” We must challenge ourselves to be bold in our witness. The conclusion was based on Psalm 2:1-2. We can trust God to give us the words we need through the Holy Spirit. God will help us have a strong witness! The main focus of the meeting was the progress of Vision 2017 Projects. Each of the eighteen project items were discussed and studied to assess progress and completion dates. Funding and recommendations from the Steering Committee were also discussed. Please take time to view the information board located outside the church office to review these results. It is so exciting to see our prayers answered as we strive to further God’s Kingdom.

Dear Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church,

Thank you for your support of Chowan

University through the CBFNC Missions Resource Plan.

Your support has made a huge impact on our students, by

providing funds to the Chowan Christian Service

Association for ministry and mission scholarships. This

year the Chowan Christian Service Association (CCSA)

celebrated its tenth anniversary! The program was created

to foster students with a call into the ministry. With

heartfelt thanks, we appreciate your church’s investment in

Chowan students!

CITY ON A HILL NEWS

From David, Heather and Jyoti Webb

Greetings and Happy New Year from Mussoorie! This year we spent Christmas on the hillside keeping warm with our wood stove. We have not seen any snow yet, but it does seem cold enough for snow to come any day. The beginning of December saw us finish the school term with a flurry. The first week of the month, the fall concerts took place. Heather directed three different groups made up of students from the 3rd Grade to the 6th Grade. She was proud the students were able to show all they had learned since the start of the school year. David helped support the students by singing with Heather’s Junior Choir and also playing trumpet with the Intermediate band. The second week of the month, there was a Christmas presentation by all of the students from Kindergarten up to 7th Grade. Each grade level had their turn at the stage. These Christmas presentations were the culmination of Heather working with all the classes to put together their plays with music. Each morning of the last week of school, the day also started with the singing of Christmas carols. The story of Jesus birth was presented in many different ways by the classes, bringing smiles to the faces of students and staff alike. Please be in prayer that the seeds planted with the retelling of the Nativity story will grow and lead those present to know more about Christ. In the last week of school we led our 6th Grade advisor group in a project to pack Christmas stockings with candy to distribute to some of the local orphan homes and hillside children in our community from poorer backgrounds. One afternoon, we were able to visit some of the children’s homes along with our students to hand out the stockings. There were many smiles all around as the children in both of the homes presented a song after our group sang Silent Night for them. The following week, stockings were also taken to children who live in a rural village that our school has adopted. Please pray that all of those that receive a Christmas stocking will feel loved this season. We were thrilled to have David’s parents with us in December. It was a beautiful time for Jyoti to get to know them and for them to see a slice of our life here as a family. We are thankful that we could share in some wonderful family time with them right before Christmas! It was the best Christmas gift possible for our family! This January, we are going to travel for a few weeks during winter break so Jyoti can see more of her birth country. David is looking forward to showing her some historic sites while Heather wants to be able to show her more of the wildlife in the jungles. We also hope to visit some of Jyoti’s school friends in different areas of the country. Please be in prayer that we are safe in our travels. As we begin this New Year, we also want to offer thanks for our continued partnership with all of you at JHBC. Without your support, we would not be able to accomplish the work here. We continue to pray that all is well with you in Sanford as well and hope that you had a great Christmas season. Grace and Peace, David, Heather and Jyoti

Operation Christmas Child is a ministry very aptly named. It is quite an operation and our purpose is to spread the gospel of the Christ Child whose birth we celebrate at Christmas. First, let me speak to the operational aspects of the ministry as it pertains to Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church. 2015 marked our 13th year of being a collection point here in the Sanford community. For 10 years, we were a relay center, only collecting shoe boxes from the Sanford area. For the last 3 years, we have been a collection center, which means that 2 other relay centers feed their collected boxes through our location – coming from Lillington and Apex. As our responsibilities have increased, JHBC's commitment to this ministry has never wavered . In fact, the ministry here has grown in the hearts of everyone. During national collection week alone, volunteer hours numbered 548 with 337 hours put in by our own JHBC members. Those volunteer hours DO NOT reflect all of the time and effort put forth by so many of you throughout the entire year!! From gathering shoeboxes to decorating shoeboxes, to shopping for needed items and then prepping those same items for our packing parties, to using your talents to knit hats, construct drawstring backpacks, sew pillowcase dresses, pants, and skirts and even make precious baby dolls. And then there are the folks who make financial gifts to the ministry so that we might buy the items that haven't been donated throughout the year. Thank you one and all for your faithful support of this ministry to children. As to our purpose in this ministry, what can be better than being a part of spreading the Gospel worldwide? We are so grateful for the opportunity to work alongside our church family and to work with other Christian brothers and sisters here in this community-all focused on getting the shoeboxes, these Gospel Opportunities, into the hands of children all over the world. Truly, it has been a pleasure to serve God together and to join him in this Kingdom work! As you read the "stats" below, don't forget to pray for this ministry. Please thank God for each and every person that has given of their time, talents, resources and prayers to ensure that children everywhere will hear and know of Jesus Christ through this shoebox ministry. With grateful hearts, Donna Smith and Alice Gilchrist By the numbers: 1,005 boxes packed by JHBC ( increase of 127 from 2014) 975 boxes packed from year-round donations 7,499 boxes collected from Sanford area (increase of 985 from 2014) 2,886 boxes collected from Lillington area (increase of 123 from 2014) 2,500 boxes collected from Apex area (increase of 762 from 2014) 10,385 JHBC Collection Center Total with Sanford and Lillington collections only We could not accommodate all of Apex's collection so the decision was made to send their collection to another collection site rather than call for a third truck and only have 25 cartons on it. 12,885 shoebox total had Apex come to JHBC as planned 548 Collection Center Volunteer Hours 337 Collection Center Volunteer Hours by JHBC members
