WE AREN’T GOING TO LIE, it’s always sad when summer ends. The only thing that softens the blow is looking back at what a truly amazing season it has been. We’ve seen phenomenal performances from some of music’s greatest over the past couple of months; From Candi Staton to Omar, Collie Buddz to Sister Sledge and a whole lot more that we just can’t fit in here; it has definitely been a summer to remember at The Jazz Cafe.

But don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about the rest of the year. October welcomes ex-Average White Band artist Hamish Stuart with his live band in tow as well as funk and soul gods Heatwave and Lee Thompson’s Ska Orchestra. If you’re after a taste of the blues then check out Tony Remy & The Stolen Clones and Larry McCray. November’s line-up is packed to the brim with the likes of Dizraeli & The Small Gods, Scorcher, R&B moguls Ezra Brown and Cheryl Pepsii Riley and what’s more, Independent Music Award winning singer Joan As Police Woman takes to stage for two nights on the trot!

Departing on his world tour this coming Autumn, American blues artist Larry McCray stops off at The Jazz Cafe to bring us a night packed with soulful vocals, funk and bold guitar lines. Born into a musical home, McCray spent the majority of his youth performing across Michigan alongside his siblings and by 1990 released his debut album ‘Ambition’ under Virgin Records Blues Division, Pointblank Records. With a second album behind him and his own independent record company Magnolia Records established in 2000, Larry McCray’s performance is definitely not to be missed.

LEE THOMPSON’S SKA ORCHESTRA(MADNESS)

Lee Thompson’s Ska Orchestra take to the stage this October to bring us an evening brimmed with a selection of ska and reggae rhythms. Joining forces in 2011, the band were quick to make a name for themselves and the following year released their debut album ‘The Benevolence of Sister Mary Ignatius’. With the number and line-up of band members changing every so often, Lee Thompson’s Ska Orchestra consists of some of the finest ska and reggae musicians around today.

MARK MORRISS (WITH LIVE BAND) British singer-songwriter Mark Morriss started making heads turn as the lead singer in English indie rock band The Bluetones, which received 13 top 40 singles and 3 top 10 albums across its lifespan. Embarking on a solo career, Mark released his first debut album in 2008 ‘Memory Muscle’ and this February introduced his second album ‘A Flash of Darkness’, which has pleased both Bluetones and Mark Morriss fans alike. Playing a collection of his greatest solo material, expect to hear a sequence of britpop, alternative and indie rock from the former Bluetones frontman.

TONY REMY AND THE STOLEN CLONESHaving performed with the likes of Annie Lennox, Simply Red, Incognito, Craig David and Jack Bruce, blues and jazz guitarist Tony Remy has gained an international reputation thanks to his first-class stage presence and rare raw energy. Influenced by guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix, BB King and George Benson, Tony began integrating himself into the jazz community and consequently played in a number of bands throughout the 80s. Taking over The Jazz Cafe this Autumn expect nothing less than an inspiring and spellbinding performance from the North Londoner and his band The Stolen Clones.

TIPPA IRIE & FRIENDSSetting out on a musical career at the turn of the 80s, Tippa was primarily known as an MC on the South London reggae soundsystem Saxon Studio International. Releasing a number of singles a few years on, including ‘Complain Neighbour’ and his 1986 Number One hit ‘Hello Darling’ Tippa quickly gained a following and over the past several years has collaborated with artists Alexander O’Neal and Long Beach Dub All Stars. Look forward to hearing Tippa’s greatest hits alongside performances from artists Peter Hunnigale, Lloyd Brown, Peter Spence, Janet Lee Davis & Winsome.

CEZARA-LUCIA VLADESCU+ NATHAN ‘FLUTEBOX’ LEE

Romanian artist Cezara-Lucia Vladescu is without a doubt the wunderkind of her generation. Having mastered the piano and won the Romanian Musical Critics Union prize by the age of 8, Cezara enrolled at Germany’s notorious Karlsruhe Music Academy where she fine-tuned her piano playing skills and thereupon won the IBLA Grand prize. With her debut jazz album ‘Songs For Dodo’ released in January 2013, Cezara takes to The Jazz Cafe’s stage to put on a spectacular night of baroque, jazz and rock n’ roll and what’s more, Nathan ‘Flutebox’ Lee warms up the night with fluteboxing; a blend of beatboxing, the flute, reggae, and hip-hop.

HAMISH STUART(EX AVERAGE WHITE BAND)

Calling all Hamish Stuart and Average White Band lovers alike. Glasgow artist Hamish Stuart first shot to fame as the guitarist and falsetto of Average White Band back in the 70s: a Scottish funk and soul group most known for tracks ‘Pick Up The Pieces’ and ‘Let’s Go Round Again’. Having worked alongside Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross and George Benson, Hamish also pursued a solo career in 1999, which saw him release his first album Sooner or Later on his own record label, Sulphuric Records. Performing in a band once again, expect to hear a selection of solo material and Average White Band’s number one hits.

Hailing from Sao Paolo, Brazil Fabiana worked in theatre and dance prior to considering a career in music. Labeled as one of the most important interpreters of contemporary Brazilian music, the singer was crowned as the Best Female Singer of Samba at the 2012 Brazilian Music Awards and released her latest album Fabiana Cozza a year earlier. With support from Wyza Bakongo, prepare to be kept on your toes and shaking your hips throughout the night.

THE NEVILLESTAPLE BANDNeville Staple and his band return to The Jazz Cafe this October after their sold out joint headline show with Dub Pistols. Having worked an impressive 35 years in the industry, English singer Neville Staple a.k.a The Original Rude Boy has collaborated with the likes of No Doubt and Rancid and in 2004 embarked on a solo career, forming ‘The Neville Staple Band’. HEATWAVEGet into the groove this October as 70s funk and disco band Heatwave take over The Jazz Cafe to reignite that disco fever. Despite remaining in the spotlight for a short period of time the band, which consisted of former U.S servicemen, released a total of 6 albums in its heyday and is most renowned for disco hits ‘Boogie Nights’, ‘Always and Forever’ and ‘Mind Blowing Decisions’. Reforming in the 90s, Heatwave once again dominated the spotlight and acquired an international following. Expect an energetic and uplifting show that’s set to include a compilation of their beloved hits.

One evening at the 2004 Falco Ridge Festival Laurie MacAllister, Abbie Gardner and Carolann Solebello crossed paths at a song circle. The last ones standing, the trio’s vocals were a perfect match and in a heartbeat, Red Molly was born. Now a worldwide sensation having toured the likes of Denmark and Australia, Soundcraft UK LTD presents the Americana group in their finest form so prepare to be enticed by the girls’ infectious songwriting and original takes on bluegrass, honky tonk and folk. Starting off the night with a joyous and moving performance will be British acoustic band Hatful of Rain.

CAPONE-N-NOREAGA (C-N-N)Hip-hop duo Capone-N-Noreaga are proud to announce their debut at The Jazz Cafe this October. Formed in 1995, the New Yorkers swiftly made their mark on the music industry and secured a recording contract with Penalty Records a year later. Despite Capone’s imprisonment for a parole violation before their debut album had been completed, Noreaga took matters into his own hands and pushed the album titled ‘The War Report’ to the finish line. Reforming in 2013 and delighting fans worldwide, MAMA & The Doctor’s Orders are proud to present a night that’s bound to go down in hip-hop history. Expect to hear some of the finest tracks from all three of their critically acclaimed albums.

THE COUP FT. BOOTS RILEY Californian band The Coup is far from your typical hip-hop group. Made up of seven members including frontman Boots Riley, the band came together in 1991 and released six albums over the course of its 23-year career. Born and bred in Buckinghamshire the guitarist has an impressive discography that includes albums from his solo career as well as his most recent album ‘Shine’ which was released this August. Forming the line-up of this year’s London International Arts Festival will be Bangalore Dreams, Krar Collective, Nordic Raga and Susheela Raman. Established in 2004, the festival aims to promote South Asian music, dance, storytelling and visuals with help from some of the hottest musicians out there today. Expect to hear a mixture of electronica, funk, Indian classical music and ravishing rhythms across the course of the evening.
