Perry Louis & JazzCotech Dancers are beyond excited to bring the Messin’ Around experience back to The Jazz Cafe as part of their 25th anniversary.

The venue is, and always will be, an iconic venue for Jazz Dancers past and present, but it’s extra special to us, as so many of the current JazzCotech Dancers had their debut on The Jazz Cafe stage.

Back in June 1996, we were approached by Adrian Gibson to help get the Clubbers back to The Jazz Cafe after the live shows on a Saturday night. At the time, we thought that if we could do this for 3 months, we’d be the Dons… Christmas Specialcame and went, so did our 1st Anniversary and the next and the next … 10 years later, Messin’ Around had become the longest running Club night ever featured in The Jazz Cafe history, and one of the longest running Saturday club nights in London – an accomplishment that that we’re very proud of.

But we didn’t stop at “just” running a Club night – oh no. As Messin’ Around grew, it became apparent that we ought to combine the live music element into the night, creating a vibe that would start with a Live Band and move smoothly into a DJ led session, featuring a live performance by the hosts of the night.

Born was the Messin’ Around Experience, with its purpose of re-presenting the sound of the dance floor by throwing Musicians, Dancers, DJs and most

importantly clubbers and music lovers into one big happy melting pot – and that’s still our ideology today.

Our unique collaboration of Clubbers, Dancers, DJs and Musicians - forgetting a Promoter Adrian Gibson who had a good understanding of the word ‘clubbing’ – turned Messin’ Around into an events package that saw it featured at Festivals around the world, toured around the UK and beyond whilst, most importantly, developing a music policy that discovered many Artistes, Record Labels and DJs, many of whom have gone on and become household names.

We published 5 compilation CDs, various limited edition Vinyl publications and of course we mustn’t forget that as Dancers, we got thousands of people dancing and London swinging agian. It was important to us to show that dancing to Jazz can be done by anyone, and that nobody needs to be intimated by the concept of dancing to Jazz.

We were honoured to appear on that Jazz Cafe stage with many well-known, cherished, international Jazz, Funk and Soul Artistes over the years, however, to us, it was important to go back to our roots at every opportunity – the dance floor.

And that hasn’t changed 20 years down the line!
