Improvements to the Database
General Retail price sources have been identified in Country Executive Summaries.
Computerised distributor sections for greater consistency.
Improved retail value data through more cross-checking with producers on retail prices.
Wine Significantly improved still light wine segmentation, including splitting brand ranges by quality.
Splitting out prosecco, Asti and cava as categories for the first time.
Spirits Continued focus on super- and ultra-premium spirits and more detailed coverage of brand lines.

Corrections to data
Change affecting all markets: Fireball Cinnamon Shot has been reclassified as a flavoured Canadian whisky. It was previously listed as a liqueur.
Change affecting all Duty Free/Travel Retail markets: Retail price data for Mixed Drinks has been added for 2015 for the first time. 2015 retail prices have
been applied to all years going back to 2010 in order to avoid significant distortions to value data.
Europe Albania
No changes.
Austria
Weinmanufaktur Krems has been broken out of Winzer Krems volumes following new information.
Some other value sekt volumes have been transferred to standard and premium to better reflect local sekt segmentation, dating back to 2005.
Accolade: All brands added for first time.
Felix Solis: Removed Albali, added Felix Solis and adjusted others.
The total sparkling wine market is now larger than previously stated due to the inclusion of historic La Gioiosa and Valdo figures.
Metaxa 5* revised down and surplus added under Metaxa 7*.
Appleton Estate VX has been introduced, dating back to 2010, with volumes transferred from Appleton Special White. There is consequently some shift in volume from white to gold rum.
Kleiner Feigling volumes have been added to low-strength flavoured vodka from 2014.
G’Vine figures in 2014 have been revised in this edition of the report.
Heineken volumes have been removed from 2013, as these are included in Brau Union. Heineken is produced locally under license.
Beer market volumes have been corrected in 2014. Stiegl and Egger volumes for 2014 have been revised following new information.
Belgium & Luxembourg
The following brands have been adjusted with volumes shipped in 2015, but excluded from this year’s
report. It will be included in next year’s brands volumes (other brands could also be modified next year if large unexplained declines occur):

Bulgaria
Total 2014 volumes for Irish whiskey have been changed in this report due to new brand information becoming available.
Canary Islands
Volumes for several brands and, in certain cases, categories have been altered following improved
information on the split between Diageo’s and Felix Solis’ Canaries and mainland Spain operations, as well as the inclusion of local player Destileria San Bartolome de Tejina for the first time.
It is possible that some volumes are underestimated as local distributors or mainland producers
struggle to identify how much extra stock is brought over by the large supermarket chains.
Felix Solis still light wine 2012 - 2014
Croatia
Most figures for Maraska’s brands have been changed due to the producer contributing to the report
for the first time. Zlatni Brand brandy has been added to the report, which means that the local brandy market is now slightly larger than presented in last year’s edition of the report.
Cyprus
Still light wine: There have been some revisions to the split by country after a local company revised figures significantly for an imported wine; this has lowered overall import volumes. Volumes
for local wines have been raised as it is clear that previous volumes understated the real size of the
market.
Tsipouro: Previous estimates for this category have been lowered after estimates for the leading
brand were significantly revised downwards.
There have been no other major revisions to the report.
Czech Republic
The imported bitters category has been altered slightly in this edition of the report due to new historic
brand information.
Some new brand information became available, which caused some small changes within the eaux-
de-vie category. Total volumes remained the same, however.
Liqueur range and low-strength flavoured vodka volumes have been altered due to the reclassification
of one brand. Total liqueur volumes remained the same.
Denmark
No changes.
Estonia
Volumes for Glenmorangie 10yo Scotch, Belaja Rusj vodka and Kristal Super Lux vodka were adjusted
for 2014 in the light of new information.
2014 figures have been added for Billecart-Salmon Champagne, Y2K VIP vodka, Veskimeister vodka and Grand Cavalier brandy.
San Marzano wine, Bongeronde wine, Intis wine, Frescobaldi wine, Achaval Ferrer wine, Stolichnaya Elit vodka, Parliament vodka, Moe vodka, Pyrat XO rum and Sailor Jerry rum had data added going
back to 2013 in light of new information.
Data for Koch vodka and Taxi vodka has been added going back to 2012.
In light of new information volumes for Felix Solis Spanish still light wine has been added to the
report with historical figures added to the ‘Others’ Value section. This will explain the increase in
category volumes for Spanish still light wine since 2010.
Finland
Some brand information in spirit aperitifs has been corrected historically in light of new information.
Last year’s volumes in the ready-to-serve (RTS) segment have been corrected in this version of the report due to a reporting error in 2014.
Local flavoured rums have also been corrected slightly due to new brand information.
Please note that ‘other liqueurs’ have been altered slightly due to new brand information. Overall volumes remain unchanged.
Due to the change of origin of one brand, there have been some changes in the imported and local
‘other wine’ sections. Overall volumes for the category remain the same, however.
‘Other white spirits’ volumes have been altered in this version of the report due to receiving new
brand information for last year.
France
Sommer bitter figures have been historically revised as the distributor was reporting physical cases (1L bottles) versus 70cl usually for spirits.
Get totals have also been revised upwards to reflect more border and on-trade sales than previously believed.
Tullibardine figures have also been revised as new evidence became available.
Germany
Wine: The still light wine category’s segmentation by quality has been revised to be brought into line with the IWSR’s global quality segmentation. This has led to significant changes in the classification
and grouping of local brands in the report. Rotkäppchen Fruchtsecco volumes have been corrected in
2014. Kriter sparkling wine volumes have also been revised, following new information.
Accolade: All brands added for first time.
Felix Solis: Added Felix Solis, adjusted others.
Prosecco volumes have been broken out from other Italian sparkling wines, and need further
verification.
Spirits: Changes to Grant’s (The Balvenie and Glenfiddich) and Whyte & Mackay malts mean that malt Scotch volumes for 2014 are now lower than previously stated. Grant’s Family Reserve includes
estimates for sales made at the Danish border. Jim Beam White volumes for 2014 have been revised
down – last year’s figures reflected relatively high sell-in to the trade. US whiskey is now lower than previously stated.
Jura: Amended brand line volumes (10yr, 16yr, Prophecy and Superstition) and added “Festival” in
2014.
Mezcal volumes have been added back to 2012.
Havana Club Añejo Especial 2014 volumes have been revised downwards. Gold rum is now slightly
smaller than previously stated. Balle and Asmussen Feiner Alter volumes have been corrected back to 2013, following new information.
Rémy Martin VS figures have been removed from 2012, following new information. Ararat brandy volumes have been removed and placed in others due to a lack of information.
Nordbrand and Nordbrand Pfefferminz low-strength flavoured korn 2014 have been revised down,
following new information. Fireball Cinnamon Shot has been reclassified as a flavoured Canadian
whisky. Historic liqueur category volumes are now different than previously stated.
Changes have been made to 2014 volumes of bitters brands Fläminger Jagd, Altmeister, ENH and Klosterburg. Reiche Ernte eaux-de-vie volumes have been revised up in 2014. Overall category
volumes have not been affected.
Havana Club & Cola has been revised down, RTDs now 20k cases lower than previously stated.
Apfelwein and international cider volumes have been revised historically as a result of new
information and are now significantly higher than previously stated.
Greece
Revisions have been made to the still light wine quality segmentation. These may be subject to further revision should more information become available.
Hungary
Brandy, flavoured spirits, gin, rum, tequila, vodka and whisk(e)y volumes in 2014 are now lower than
previously stated due to revisions to 2014 numbers. Last year’s edition included high volumes of sell-in. Consequently, 2015 sell-in data was significantly lower to the extent that it distorted the market.
The figures have been adjusted to reflect organic market trends.

Millwood volumes for 2014 have been corrected. Cream liqueur volumes are now higher
than previously stated.

Bols Hungary has changed to Roust following its acquisition by the Russian firm.
Rezangyal is part-distributed by Coca-Cola and part-distributed by the brand owner. Coca-Cola is listed here as the exclusive distributor.
Iceland
No changes.
Ireland
Please note that standard traditional and flavoured vodka volumes were altered in this version of the
report due to splitting out Absolut Flavours from the main brand.
The Irish whiskey section may now look different to previous reports as the Northern Irish and Irish
whiskey segments have been merged for a better overview of total Irish whiskey consumption. Past volumes remain unchanged.
Some historic volumes in US whiskey and rum have been corrected in this report due to inclusion of duty-free data for some major brands last year. Category total have not changed.
Italy
The total market size of prosecco in Italy was previously understated and has been revised to match data from the producer consortia.
Brand sales for several Italian still light wine and sparkling wine brands have been revised historically. These categories remain subject to further revision.
Brand sales for Montenegro brands have been revised historically in the light of new information. As a result, historical totals for some key categories – notably Italian brandy and bitters – have changed.
Brand sales for Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque and Louis Roederer Cristal have been added historically.
Brand sales for the Barceló rum lines have been added or corrected historically.
Freixenet brand sales have been revised for 2014, but remain subject to further revision.
Poli grappa in 2014 has been revised.
Beer data has been comprehensively revised.
Kosovo
No changes.
Latvia
Intis and Alma Mora volumes have been merged into one figure under Las Moras under the
instruction of the brand’s distributor.
Rigas Cuvée Prestige volumes have been split out from Rigas sparkling wine, resulting in an amended
figure for the former in 2014.
Amendments have been made to the 2014 figures for Hennessy XO, VSOP, VS and Ruinart Champagne in light of new information.
Historical data going back to 2012 has been revised for CEXVI Spanish wine and Mezzo sparkling wine.
Historical data going back to 2012 was also added for Monymeyrac wine and Bon Ami Lithuanian sparkling wine.
Elsewhere, data has been amended going back to 2013 for Valckenberg German wine, Canti wine,
Freixenet cava and Martini prosecco, as well as Martini vermouth in 2014.
Vega Libre volumes have been split out from Murviedro, meaning that figures for the latter have been
amended going back to 2013.
In light of new information volumes for Felix Solis Spanish still light wine has been added to the
report with historical figures added to the ‘Others’ Value section. This will explain the increase in
category volumes for Spanish still light wine since 2012.
Lithuania
Figures were added in 2013 and 2014 for Moka coffee liqueur.
Sales numbers for Gosudarev Zakaz vodka and Cristalino Cava in 2014 have also been added.
Angostura 5yr premium was merged with its standard quality duplicate.
Ragutis beer was rebranded as Volfas Engelman in 2011 and has been changed in the report
accordingly.
In light of new information volumes for Felix Solis Spanish still light wine has been added to the report with historical figures added to the ‘Others’ Value section. This will explain the increase in
category volumes for Spanish still light wine since 2012.
Macedonia
No changes.
Malta
Estimated volumes for Corvo Italian wine have been added from 2011 to 2015.
2014 volumes for Tsarine Champagne were overstated (figures were in bottles not cases) and have been corrected from 500 cases to 50 cases. The total for ‘other premium Champagne’ has also been
revised.
2013 and 2014 volumes for Oranjeboom beer were overstated and have been corrected. The total for
‘other imported beer’ has also been revised.
Revisions to historical retail sales prices: Johnnie Walker Gold Reserve in 2014.
All ultra-premium malt Scotch brands in 2014 have been revised.
African Sun still light wine in 2014 has been revised.
Montenegro
No changes.
Netherlands
Due to a recording error, 2014 figures for Johnnie Walker variants and Grant’s Family Reserve were incorrect and have been corrected. This has changed the overall size of the Scotch category
considerably.
Last year’s volumes for the standard imported vodka segment have been altered in this edition of the
report due to a correction made to Eristoff volumes in 2014.
Various still light wine brands have been corrected historically due to the IWSR receiving more accurate brand information. Overall wine volumes for each country of origin remained the same.
Some Champagne brands have been altered in this edition of the report due to the IWSR receiving more accurate brand information. Overall Champagne volumes in each quality segment remained the
same.
2014 volumes of Passoã Festa were corrected in this report due to a typing error last year. As a
result, total licorette volumes have changed for 2014.
Please note that beer volumes have been altered in this report. Previous estimates appear to have
included production destined for export. This has now been revised in light of information from the national brewers association.
Norway
No changes.
Poland
For the first time, total beer companies’ volumes have been split by type and by brand. This is the
first effort to segment the beer market to such detail.
2014 figures for Stock Prestige, Zoladkowa Gorzka and Zoladkowa Gorzka de Luxe have been changed in the light of new comments received from the brand owner.
Portugal
Still light wine: Historical 2012-2014 data for some Portfolio Wines brands have been adjusted to account for volumes sold in travel retail. There has been no change to total category volumes.
Fortified wine: Historical 2010-2014 data for some Portfolio Wines brands have been adjusted to
account for volumes sold in travel retail. There has been no change to total category volumes.
Other wine: Historical volumes for 7 & Picos sangria have been added in light of new information
from the distributor. This has had a small impact on total category volumes.
Liqueurs: Historical 2014 figures for Disaronno and Kahlúa have been adjusted in light of new
information. This has had a small impact on total category volumes.
Romania
PPD Romania: Following a thorough revision made by this importer/distributor’s new management in mid-2015, the entire portfolio of this company has been reworked historically from 2013 onwards.
Lerida: The entire portfolio of this importer/distributor has been reworked historically from 2013
onwards after the IWSR obtained full cooperation by brand in 2016.
Serbia
Rémy Martin, Metaxa and Cointreau figures have been altered due to new information received from
the distributor.
2014 Brugal figures have been added to the report due to new information received from the
distributor.
Slovakia
Some vodka data has been altered in this version of the report due to the addition of historic brand
volumes. All flavoured vodkas will be grouped under the parent group moving forward.
Armenian brandy figures have been modified due to the addition of historic data for additional brand
lines.
Slovenia
No changes.
Spain
The still light wine category’s segmentation by quality has been revised to be brought in line with the IWSR’s global quality segmentation. This has led to significant changes in the classification and
grouping of local brands in the report. Furthermore, some D.O. volumes have been broken out for the first time, affecting the historical size of ‘other regions’ volumes.
A better understanding of the Italian lambrusco market has led to significant corrections on imported wine volumes.
Volumes for certain Diageo brands have been historically changed to better reflect the split between
the Canary Islands, peninsular Spain and border trade channels.
Sweden
No changes.
Switzerland
Vranken Exclusive Labels 2014 has been corrected.
Accolade: All brands added for first time.
Felix Solis: Added Felix Solis, adjusted others.
Some single malt brands have been separated into non-age statement lines, e.g. The Singleton and
Talisker. Highland Park 12yr was misreported in 2014 and has been corrected.
Glenfiddich12yr 2014 has been revised following new information. Aberlour A’bunadh and The Glenlivet 15yr have been added back to 2010.
The Botanist has been added back to 2012, and Mare and Mombasa Club figures have been revised
historically following new information. Gin category volumes are now higher than previously stated.
Żubrówka has been corrected in 2014. Flavoured vodka is now bigger than previously reported.
The Kraken figures have been added back to 2013. Spiced rum volumes have changed slightly as a
result.
Paesanella 2014 figures have been revised. Italian brandy is now lower than previously stated.
Trojka Devil has been removed from the report and is now included in Trojka Range. Estimates for
Licor Beirao have been added dating back to before 2010. Liqueur category volumes are now higher
than previously stated.
Fireball Cinnamon Shot has been reclassified as flavoured Canadian whisky.
Jägermeister 2014 figures have been revised down as distorted by sell-in.
Turkey
Duty-free arrivals were historically an important source of volume into the domestic market for many
of the large operators. However, in the last few years, as regulations have changed, this practise has declined. As such, duty-free arrival volumes have been gradually phased out of the 2015 report going
back to 2010. Significant revisions have been made to a number of brands including Absolut, Johnnie
Walker, Ballantine’s Finest, Chivas Regal, Jack Daniel’s, Jägermeister and others.
United Kingdom
Revisions have been made to a number of Australian, South African and US still light wine brands
such as well as Calvet and Felix Solis volumes in light of new information. Changes have also been
made to the still light wine quality segmentation.
The Jura Elixir brand line was duplicated in 2014 – this has been corrected.
Brand sales for all Maverick Drinks’ brands were overstated in the past (units were bottles and not
cases) and have been revised significantly downwards. As a result some historic price segment and overall category totals have been revised.
Brand sales for Hi-Spirits’ brands have been revised downwards, having been overstated in the past.
Brand sales for The Pig’s Nose blended Scotch have been revised downwards.
Brand sales for Halewood brands have been revised historically.
Brand sales for Marie Brizard liqueur ranges have been revised upwards.
In RTDs, WKD volumes have been revised downwards; the Greenall’s & Tonic and Greenall’s &
Slimline Tonic lines have been combined into a single brand line total.
Americas
Argentina
The following adjustments have been made to historic data in light of new information from the
market (all changes relate to 2014 unless specified):
Wine: Finca Flichman brands since 2012; Nieto y Senetiner brands since 2011; Norton brands since
2013; Luigi Bosca Icono; Graffigna; Santa Silvia; Mumm Premier; Montes; Americano Padilla; Chilean wine totals; totals for Other Aperitifs (local) since 2010.
Spirits: Oddka: traditional vodka and low-strength flavoured vodka (liqueurs); Sheridans; Mixx Tail. Grant’s, Glenfiddich and Hendrick's are now distributed by Premier.
Beer: Historical data has been added at brand level.
Bolivia
The following adjustments to brand and category data have been made in light of updated
information:
Still light wine: Campos de Solana and local still light wine category totals (from 2005), Concha y
Toro (2014).
Singani: Campos de Solana (from 2006), category totals adjusted (from 2010).

due to new information from the distributors. This has had an impact on the category totals.
Tequila: Historical 2013-2014 data for El Jimador Reposado and Blanco have been altered.
Vodka: Historical 2013-2014 data for Finlandia and Polak have been adjusted due to new information
from the distributors. This has had a small effect on the category totals.
Flavoured vodka: Historical 2014 data for Balalaika Apple has been added. This has affected the
category total.
Cane: Historical 2013-2014 figures for Germana cachaça have been revised.
Mixed drinks: Historical 2013 data for Santa Dose has been adjusted due to new information from

Hong Kong
Historical beer figures have been revised to better split out the category according to brand. The total

The figures used in this report for imported categories combine domestic duty paid and arrivals duty
free numbers. Using this strict definition has meant significant revisions to Scotch whisky (as forewarned in last year’s report). The numbers for tequila have also been revised upwards in the light
of new information for one of the leading brands. Previous estimates reflected only part of their
distribution.

Historical beer consumption volumes have been revised upwards. Previous Japanese figures were
assumed to include imports as well – this appears not to have been the case.

Johnnie Walker Black and Red figures have been revised historically as Black is much more relevant
than Red in Laos.

Cuervo Gold figures have been revised to show higher volumes than previously thought, as corrected
by the brand owner.
Singapore
Still Light wine, sparkling wine and beer data has been historically modified in 2016 to bring the totals closer to duty-paid figures, which are said to accurately represent the category total.
South Korea
Jinro soju has been renamed Chamisul as this is the brand name under which most soju produced by
Hite Jinro is sold in South Korea. Other soju brand names have also been changed: Mukak to Good Day, Kumbokju to Charm, Bobae to Yipsejoo, Daesun to C1, Sunyang to 02Linn, Hanil to Hallasan.
Historical volumes for O2Linn and Hallasan have been revised. The category total has not changed.
Sri Lanka
There have been no major changes to the data in 2016 (2015 data).
Taiwan
Still light wine volumes for 2014 have been revised in light of new Customs information. The category
is thought to have fared better than originally believed.
Thailand
Some brands previously listed as still light wine have been reclassified as fruit wine (other wines), because they contain fruit juice to pay less tax. Some of this is bottled by Dalat in Vietnam.

2014 figures for Beluga have been revised upwards to reflect growth that is stronger than previously
estimated.
Local wine figures have been revised as the leading player Da Lat is thought to produce 4m bottles. Figures should be taken with caution and might be revised again in future.

No major changes have been made to previous category data.
Egypt
A number of Al Ahram volumes have been revised for 2014, given that last year’s volumes were
projections. Most changes are minor. However, significant changes impact Pharaohs Egyptian wine and Malvado other spirit, which affect category volumes for the year.
ID Black 50 and ID Blue 40 have replaced ID Black Onyx and the ID vodka lines respectively.
Johnnie Walker Red volumes have been revised down in 2014 following new information.

Beam Suntory products are now with Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA). Beam Global’s products were with CCA previously, but Suntory was a standalone distributor. Products owned by Beam Suntory are now with

The Accolade portfolio has moved from Constellation to Hancocks. Hancocks is listed as sole supplier
for 2015.
Whisk(e)y volumes are now considerably higher than previously stated due to the revision of Grant’s,
Label 5 and Whyte & Mackay brands. Canadian Club has also been changed in 2014 following new information (revised down).
In 2016 all Beam Suntory products will be distributed by Coca-Cola Amatil. Campari’s bitters and
selected other brands will be distributed by Eurovintage.
Quartz Reef figures have been revised back to 2013. Overall sparkling wine volumes have been
amended due to revisions to others in super-premium and premium local sparkling wine segments.
The Grant’s portfolio volumes for 2014 have been changed due to new information. Irish whiskey and
blended Scotch are now larger in 2014 than previously reported.
Volumes from the Jim Beam Black RTD for 2013 have been transferred to Jim Beam RTD following new information.
