Sri Lanka Cricket has great pleasure in announcing that at the Annual General Meeting of The Asian Cricket Council held on 18th June 2006, Chairman Sri Lanka Cricket Mr. Jayantha Dharmadasa was appointed as the President of the Asian Cricket Council for 2 years from June 2006. “I am very delighted that Sri Lanka is getting this position. During the length of my term I will be working directly with all offices to ensure that the ideals, which we have so closely followed, are maintained and spread all across Asia”, said Mr. Dharmadasa, upon his appointment. Michael was severely beaten in an apparently motiveless attack in which no weapon was used and no attempt was made at robbery. His mother, Sue Chapman, a nurse, made an emotional plea on Sunday for information to help catch her son’s killers after she visited the scene at Gore Court cricket club in Sittingbourne, Kent. Mrs Chapman, 40, said that she and her husband Lloyd, 49, were devastated by the loss of their son. Struggling to hold back tears, she said: “Michael was a wonderful 16-year-old. Loving, thoughtful, happy and cheerful. “Everyone loved him. He was not hated by anyone. We just want any witnesses at all to come forward. Please just find the people who did this to my son and David’s brother. That is all we ask for.” David added: “He was a great brother all round.” Detective Superintendent Lee Catling said: “Michael and his brother were with their girlfriends innocently walking through the upper playing fields around 11pm. “Two people came across and Michael was the main one who was attacked. We don’t think a weapon was used and we are pretty convinced this is the case but we are keeping an open mind. “This was not a robbery. This was an unprovoked and gratuitous attack. We cannot rule out this was just unplanned violence. His parents are struggling to cope but are working closely with a fami- ly liaison officer so that we can get justice for Michael.” He added: “The attack at the moment seems motiveless. I need to know who would have had a problem with him and want to hurt him.
