Living By Faith May brought a joyful celebration to our family as we had the opportunity to celebrate our daughter’s graduationfrom seminary with a Master of Divinity degree from Regent Collegein Vancouver, Canada. We also visited with my sister and her familyand my mother in Oregon, and had the chance to see my nephew andto meet his wife and their daughter for the first time. My nephew alsojust graduated from law school at the top of his class. So many goodthings! Our lives are full of the joys of these kinds of good things, but we allpass through difficult times, as well. For the next four Sundays, I planto explore the little book of Habakkuk in our worship time. Habakkukwas a prophet/priest of Israel about 600 years before Christ. He callsthe people to live by faith in the dark days of the rise of Babylon andthe imminent exile of the Jewish people. I hope this series will encourage you with the courageous faith of one of Israel’s minor prophets. His short bookhas much to say for our own time. The messages I will preach will be titled:

▸ May 29th, Complaining by Faith▸ June 2nd, Living by Faith▸ June 9th, Praying by Faith▸ June 16th, Rejoicing by Faith God bless you in the good times and in the times of hardship and challenge. God is faithful in all times and in allcircumstances. Grace and Peace,John

2019

Last year was the first time the Mattituck Street Fair was on Old Sound Ave. in front of the church, instead of onLove Lane. I think we did okay making money for all our mission projects around the globe! Well, are you readyto do it again? Because the Annual Chicken BBQ is right around the corner, July 6th. Mark it on your calendar! Our BBQ committees are meeting to see how we can improve on what we learned from last year and make thisyear even better.

Remember, the street fair makes access to the church a little more difficult, but it will allow us to sell ourchickens at the fair for lunch and for dinner! We will start serving lunches around noon and have tables andchairs set up on the lawn for folks to relax and enjoy the day.

Take-out dinners will start at 5 and go till 7 pm. This will allow the street fair to clear and the road to re-open.So, come to the fair and have the best BBQ chicken for lunch or get tickets and pick up your dinner after 5 pm.

Family Fun Packs are going to be available, but we will not be doing the delivery service. You can still have thefamily party and we will still cook for you. We'll still have the 6, 8, 10 and 12 packs so you can save a bit onlarge orders. Call the Church at 298-4145 for details.

Tickets are available on June 15th in the office or from Rory MacNish and a host of others! Rory(me) could use Lots of Extra Help selling tickets, cooking, prepping, serving lunch at theStreet Fair, as well as set up and clean-up crews. Want to help out? Call Rory MacNish (631-921-4555) and remember all proceeds go to missions!

I am so proud of my Church family with all the help I received last year. We had such fun working together. Goddoes provide! I’m so very grateful to you all. So, we will see you again this year. Thanks!Rory MacNish

Christmas Fair 2019

You are invited to attend our first planning meeting for the 2019 Christmas Fair on June 9th at12:00 noon (after the second service) in the parlor. The success of the 2018 fair was largelydue to the planning, the hard work and the enthusiastic attitude of those involved. We’reaiming for more of the same this year! Do you think we can once again top last year? Most of the tables will stay the same: crafts & gifts, holiday arrangements anddecorations, foods, wooden items, jewelry, new and fine items, cookies, themedgift baskets and the children’s room. Again, we are looking for classy andone-of-a-kind items and want the majority of what we sell to be homemade. Please join us as we exchange ideas and information. It’s not too early to start your crafts. We’re looking forward to working together, enjoying fellowship and friendship as we serve the Lord in thisway. Remember, all proceeds will benefit our mission program!Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. We would love to see newcomers and new ideas.Peggy Rose and Ruthanne Woodhull

Haiti Task Force

Well, it is a cool day in May, 2019 and as we sit in this cool damp weather, I would not be surprised ifall of our minds are starting to focus on warmer and dryer times and places. So how about this: prayerfullyconsider joining the MPC Haiti Task Force mission trip in January 2020. Tentatively the dates are January 9th - 24th. For people not able to stay for two weeks, we will also have arrangements in place for a one week stay.

As you might remember, The Invitation sent out last yearsaid the 2019 trip would be “Life enriching.” Do you knowwhat?…It was! But then again, I have said that after each of mytrips to Haiti. However, if you would like, you can verify this factby asking any of the team members from 2019 shown in thepicture or the 90+ travelers that have made the trip over the last35 years. A list of MPC Haiti travelers can be found on thebulletin board outside the church office. So now, I make you thesame offer for 2020. If you make the trip, you will never be thesame again.

Often, I am asked “What would I do there?” I also hearstatements like, “I would go if there was a task for me to do.” The primary quality we look for in someone wanting to be a partof the team is, “Do they have a desire to help bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to Haiti?” If you have that type ofheart and motivation, you will do fine and I can say quite confidently, you will be blessed and be a blessing tothe Haitians. If you have any questions about the trip, please email them to me at: [email protected].

Here is all you need to do; please get an application, fill it out completely and then submit it to Tom atthe above email address or put it into the HTF mailbox outside the church office. Remember that allapplications must be received by September 1, 2019. Application forms are available from Tom, the churchoffice or in the narthex of the church.

Although Samaritan's Purse Is Very Careful...Mistakes HappenRegarding the distribution of the shoe boxes...errors do occur. A little 7-year-old-girl fromBekoso, Ivory Coast, opened her box and found baby items: feeding bottles, diapers, ablanket and other baby supplies. Her mother gave birth to a baby 2 weeks later. The little girl was so thankful for the itemsthat she came to the church that gave her the shoe box and learned about Jesus and acceptedHim as her Savior. Were those contents really a mistake? It's never too early to start yourbox(es).

To My Church Family,

I want to thank everyone for the many prayers, calls, cards and visits that Herb received, especially Pastor John, who went to see Herb several times at Acadia and also at Southside Hospital. I want to thank all who attendedthe service. I’d also like to thank the Elders, who administered Communion to both Herb and myself. I knowHerb loved to see them. Tammy & Andy Cavanaugh, Sheila Minor, and Annie Hawkins, God bless you!

The service was awesome, and I thank the people who put it together. Pastor John, Caren Heacock, AnnWelcome, the choir, and Jeanne Berliner. My family and I greatly appreciate it, and Herb was happy.

Every day I pray to God that He will continue to bless our church, and I am confident that He will increase ournumbers at both services with young people and their children.

God bless all of you!

Love,Vera (Carson)

Faith Gospel Missionary Outreach2019 Mission report

I greet you in the name of Jesus with the message of the cross: Jesus died on the cross, shed His blood, was

Page 13: The Invitation - Amazon S3 · 2019-07-14 · World Concerns: world leaders, people of Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Sudan, Iran, Liberia, Ukraine and Syria, peace for Jerusalem, our friends

buried in the tomb then rose from the dead to forgive all your sins: Believe and have eternal Life!

IndiaThe flight to India took me about twenty hours This was followed by a five hour trip to meet up with V.K.Puram to start our mission work. One of our first stops was a church with a collapsed roof and needed to berebuilt for a cost of about $2,000. I met up with Pastor Shankar to visit and speak at eight churches. We alsovisited our own church and celebrated a church convention. Do to severe restrictions by the Indian Governmenton Christian work, (Hindu being the government preferred religion), we had to be careful to not offend themwhen we worshiped. We had to chose days that did not conflict with the Hindu worship and therefore bringattention to us.

We went on to celebrate children’s birthdays with toys, candy and ice cream. With the help of Christal Sofiya, who works with a South India city, we helped forty children with school supplies and clothing. We also helpedprovide medical treatments for eye problems, mental difficulties, leg problems, brain injuries and rent. Pleasekeep Christal in you prayers.

JamaicaAfter I left India I flew back to JFK where Tor Torkelson was waiting for me with two 50-lb bags of toys for thechildren in Jamaica. I did not return home when I left India and am thankful to Tor for his help.I worked with five churches in Jamaica. They have many problems. We give toys, sweets and ice cream to thechildren when we visit. We are looking for a pastor for one of the churches. Pastor Wainstead had a goodconvention at his church. Support for these programs can be sent to: Faith Gospel Missionary Outreach, 3515 Cedar Beach Road,Southold, NY 11971. Make checks payable to Faith Gospel Missionary Outreach.Waiting for Jesus’ return and the rapture! Please keep me in your prayers.

Love to all,Gene Heacock
