Were You “Raised in a Barn?”
People say, “You act like you were raised in a barn”, like it’s a bad thing.
I was raised in a barn and that’s where
I learned the most important lessons in life.
I watched life begin and end in a barn.
I discovered hard work builds character and killed no one.
I learned respect, love and compassion.
I realized sometimes you have to let go even when it breaks your heart.
I dreamed and learned to never give up on those dreams.
I failed and kept trying until I succeeded.
I gained confidence in myself and my abilities.
I understand you have to stand for what you believe in.
The next time someone tells you that you act like you were raised in a barn,
THANK THEM because I can’t think of a better compliment.

WE NEED YOUR HELP AND COOPERATION
Summer is here and it’s the perfect time of the year to do some Summer cleaning! This is the perfect time to get rid of any extra clutter or items that aren’t being used. We ask that residents and their families work
together to go through items that the resident no longer uses—clothes that do not fit, decorations that have been stuffed away in the closet, etc. to help reduce some of the clutter in rooms and closets.
Fire Marshall regulations require that nothing be stored within 18” from the ceiling and this includes in resident’s closets.
It is also important that nothing be stored on the floors or in the rooms that could cause safety hazards for residents and staff. Sometimes items pose a tripping hazard, these items should be stored in a safe place
out of the way of traffic.
Also, it is important to keep food items stored properly and to make sure that items are dated and discard-ed when appropriate. This helps reduce the chance of any food illness and pests.
Remember that rooms cannot have any items such as candles, lighters, heating irons which include curling irons, heating pads, extension cords, and adapters. If you find any of these items please remove them from
the facility immediately.
Residents who have semi-private rooms need to keep in mind that they are sharing a room with another resident. It is important that the items of one resident in the room do not overtake the side of the other
resident. Space is also an issue but if residents work together, rooms can be easily arranged to accommo-date both residents.
Stanton Health Center strives to maintain a clean environment for everyone. We also wish to respect the right of residents to furnish their rooms with their personal items. We are asking that families and residents
assist by keeping their rooms from becoming overcrowded and cluttered. Thank you!
Park ing Please remember that the yellow lines painted in the parking lot are not to be parked in. These areas are in the
front by the large picture windows and the front door. These areas are meant for loading and unloading
residents . Thank you.
Medicat ion Reminders Please remember that any and all medications have to be turned into the charge nurses and cannot be in the
resident’s room without a bedside label approved by the resident’s physician first. This includes all over the
counter medicines—cough drops, eye drops, vitamins, etc. Thank you for your cooperation.
In format ion Changes If any information would change after admission, it is important that the facility be notified of the changes as
soon as possible. This would include any insurance changes, changes in emergency contacts, funeral home
preference, and power of attorney information. Thank you!
Medica id Appl icants Please remember that if you are a resident in a long-term facility or assisted living facility and you are planning to
apply for Medicaid, you must notify the facility of your plans. The state requires that Area Agency on Aging
completes a Senior Care Options Screening that is required for all residents to have before their Medicaid case
opens. Stanton Health Center makes arrangements for this screening.
Guest Request for Meals Please remember that the facility requests that each resident have no more than 5 guests at a time for meals.
There may be exceptions to this on special occasions. Each resident is entitled to 2 free guest meals per month
and we encourage family members to dine with their loved ones. We do appreciate a 24 hour notice. Thank
you for your cooperation.

Etta Rottler
Michelle Pluzek Wise was born on August 8, 1979 in McCook, Nebras-
ka to Linda and Rodger Plouzek. She has three siblings; Jim Douglass, Melis-
sa Vendegnia and Melody Tillery. She attended school in Norfolk and graduat-
ed in 1995 from Norfolk High School. Michelle married Jack Wise on June 7,
2013. They met camping 4th of July weekend in 2008. They have two chil-
dren; Jace who is in the 4th grade(10) at Stanton Middle School. Jaxon who is
in preschool (4) at Stanton Head Start. Michelle’s mother was a very influen-
tial , special person in her life. She was a RN for 36 years. She worked in nurs-
ing from delivering babies to doing Hospice care. Michelle enjoys spending time with her two
boys and riding the Harley with her husband. She has worked at the Stanton Health Center for
two years. She started as a dietary aid and is now a cook. Michelle is a dedicated employee
and helps out wherever needed. Thank you Michelle for all you do!
Etta Bade Kment Rottler was born in Duncan, Nebraska on a farm to Herman and Mary Bade. She had six siblings; Fred (deceased), Otto (deceased), Dorothy (deceased), Bill, Lewis (deceased) and Mary Ann (deceased). Etta attended Stanton Elementary second grade on then gradu-ated from Stanton High School in 1941 but states she is “still going to the school of hard knocks”. Etta has some history with the Stanton High School as she graduated in 1941, her son graduated in 1971 and then she had a
grandchild graduate in 1991 all from Stanton High School.
Etta married Adolph Kment on June 17, 1951 a the Methodist church in Stanton. She recalls that she and Adolph started dating after he
came to her door and asked her to go to the movies. Adolph passed away and she became friends
with Donald Rottler after his wife passed. They were married in Stanton on November 28, 1988.
Etta has two children; Robert Kment of Stanton and Nancy Bettendorf of Norfolk. She has four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Etta states she has many special people involved in her life like nieces and nephews and close friends. In Etta’s words “Some are good and some not so good. They know who they are”. Etta worked at a dime store until she mar-ried at age 26 (“old maid” she jokes), she was also a farm wife and was a paraprofessional at Stanton Elementary for sixteen years. Through the years Etta has lived in Stanton since second grade. She lived on a farm on Golf Course Road, in town, “Oaks” farm during the Rottler marriage, in an apart-
ment in Stanton for five years then to the Stanton Health Center since February of 2019.
Some of Etta’s hobbies and leisure activities include: sewing-she was the 4H leader of Bloomin’ 4H’ers and traveling to Europe three times. Twice with friends and once with her brother Otto and his wife Dae. Etta says some of her talents are “living a long time”, crocheting, reading and watching t.v. She also states that she is famous for giving away her apple pies (ask Dwayne Hintz), pretty flowers and reading. While visiting with Etta she recalled a funny story: Her kids were already driving to school. Adolph joked around with her about how the kids were driving but she still didn’t have a license. This didn’t stop Etta as she would deliver lunches to everyone working in the fields put-ting up hay etc. So she went to town (kids drove) to get her license. While she was testing out for her license the examiner asked, “Is that your family across the street?” Nancy and a close friend Judy Stro-man (now Kumm) were both kneeling in front of the laundromat in prayer position. Later when I asked my daughter if she was praying that I passed my test she said, ”More like praying that you
wouldn’t run us over!”.
