• That was a rather long editorial (fourpages)pages)

• The main issues are represented in thefollowing graph, which I will explaing g p , pbriefly

6. THE DESIRABLE 6TH STAGE (I)

• The end of conflicts require a betterparticipation of stakeholders mainly of theparticipation of stakeholders, mainly of thefarmers’ lobbyTh l ti h t b WIN WIN l ti• The solution has to be a WIN-WIN solution

• The recent advances in science andtechnology may allow this in industrializedand emerging economies countries

6. THE DESIRABLE SIX STAGE(II)

• Except in poor countries: the motto

More crops and jobs per dropmust change tomust change to

7. CONCLUSIONS (I)

Th i t i f d t il t• The intensive use of groundwater silentrevolution has produced stupendoussocial and economic benefits.

• It has also created some problems, mainly ecological, due to its scarceplanning and control by thep g ygovernmental agencies

Page 15: THE INCREASING ROLE OFTHE INCREASING ROLE OF … · 2010 WORLD WATER WEEK WORKSHOP 5: MANGEMENT OF GROUNDWAATER ABSTRACTION AND POLLUTION SEPTEMBER 7TH, 2010 THE INCREASING ROLE OFTHE

7. CONCLUSIONS (II)

Th l t h i• The usual current anarchy ingroundwater management orgovernance demands a greaterparticipation of the users, mainlyp p , yfarmers, by means of groundwater userassociationsassociations.

• It is urgent to assess the different typesand performance of such associations.
