The Importance of Fluid BalanceCharts

Do not measure the water you consume out of the jug.

Nurses measure this at every water change.

Measure your urine and chart on the fluid balance - this is done byurinating in a measuring jug which the nurses will provide, thenurses will show you how to do this and also how to do a runningtotal of your urine.

If you find this difficult you can urinate into a bed pan then pourit into the measuring jug after

What the nurses will do…..

Measure anything that is going into your body via a drip and chartthis on the fluid balance.

Measure any diarrhoea or vomit that you are having and chart it.

Keeping an accurate fluid balance is important in your care andassisting the nurses by charting these things will be very helpful.

If you are struggling with the fluid balance or feel too poorly tofill it in ASK FOR HELP!!

The nurses will help you fill it in.
