THE IMPACT OF YOUR GIFT TO THE NORTH PINELLAS YMCA FALL 2019
Our Teen Leaders Club kicked off on August 26th. Teens ages 13-17 learn the benefits of volunteerism, how to be a positive role model and how to build relationships with other teen leaders across Florida and beyond! The club meets every Monday night to plan projects and more! Our teen leaders plan and participate in events and training activities that promote leadership, personal growth, physical fitness and social development. Most important is that Teen Leaders are equipped to be successful in life and make a positive impact. Teens complete 150 hours of volunteer work during the year and must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA. For more information about our Teen Leaders Club, please contact Sue Carr at [email protected] or call 727-772-9622.

YMCA YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT
The YMCA Youth In Government (YIG) is a national teen leadership pro-gram, which involves thousands of teens in a state-organized model gov-ernment. Each year, teens meet in their local delegations to discuss and debate issues that affect citizens of Florida. At chapter and delegation meetings, teens create proposed legislation to address Florida issues and learn about state and local government systems. Legislative delegates are trained in parliamentary procedure, bill develop-ment, the legislative committee process, and debate. Judicial delegates learn to write legal briefs, navigate the appellate court system, and per-form oral arguments. The program culminates with teen participants serving as legislators, at-torneys, justices, executive cabinet members, lobbyists, and more at the State Assembly held annually at the Florida State Capitol Building in Talla-hassee, FL. Delegates, through a hands-on model, are given the opportuni-ty to lead in an open and receptive learning environment. For more information about Youth in Government, please call 727-772-9622 or contact James Macchiarola at [email protected]
MEET...EVAN WESTAFER, TEEN LEADER!
“When I stepped foot into the kickoff my first year, I thought that these guys were crazy. I was looking around and everybody was probably thinking the same thing as me, is it really a big deal? Like what is with these guys? But I decided to come again for the second meeting. And then I came again, and went to my first rally. And then my second rally. And then eventually headed into to blue ridge with the inten-tion of giving 150% of myself into it, and letting nothing stop me. And that's exactly what I did, and I will never forget my first year experience. Leaders to me is much more than a little group of kids that meet up every Monday night for an hour or so. Leaders to me is family. A place where I can go and
confidently be myself with no worries. A place where I can go where there's people who love me, and care for me no matter what. Leaders is magical, and it took me from a time of sadness and confusion and completely exalted me into a league of potential that I didn't even know I had. Leaders changed my life.”
