remarkable story juxtaposing segregation and

poverty with scientific progress The case raises

important questions about the practice of

science informed consent the ethical

responsibilities of scientists and our obligations to

human participants in research While much has

changed since Henrietta Lacks sought medical

help at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the 1950s the

ethical conduct of research is an ongoing

challenge
