Box 359 Kooskia, ID 83539 (208) 459-2100 HAMMETT, IDAHO 83627 THE IDAHO ODD FELLOW REBEKAH NEWS I was born in San Lous O Bispo, California on De- cember 12, 1936. I met my husband in high school and we were mar- ried in 1952. To this union, 4 children were born; 3 boys and 1 girl. We moved to Clayton, Idaho in 1975, where we owned and operated the Saturday Mountain Resort. I still live there, but due to depressed times we closed the resort. I still rent trailer spots there. I have been a cook for most of my working years. I retired in 1998. In 2003, I lost my youngest son due to a trucking ac- cident. I lost the love of my life in 2007, due to illness. I have 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. All are boys except for 2 girls. My daughter is a Rebekah, as is her daughter. Our lodge is Silver Leaf #27 in Challis. JoAnn Johnson Rebekah Assembly President Gene S. Pola Grand Master I was born on August 26, 1941 in Salt Lake City, Utah. My family moved around the United States for the first five years of my life as my father was with the civil service as chief mechanic during World War II. We settled down in Wells, Nev. My Dad opened up his own garage. As I grew up I helped him in the garage. I married my first wife in 1962. Shortly after we moved to Boise. In 1968 our daughter Marianne was born. Through the years I worked 6 years for a refuse company and another 6 years with Triangle Dairy as a retail route salesman. I then drove truck all over the United States. I came off of the road in Dec. of 1990. I then went to work for a local company cutting pipe and irrigation parts. My wife Emily passed away in Dec. 1985. In Sept. of 1986 I married my soul mate Jo Dee. She brought two daughters Sara 14 years old and Becky 5 years old into our family. Our daughter Becky died at the age of 7 on June 15th 1988, after being struck while riding her bicycle on Boise Avenue in Boise. This was a very difficult time for our family. In November of 1989 I joined the Odd Fellows Ada lodge #3 and started to go through the chairs in 1993. I became Noble Grand in 1994 and in the years since I have been Noble Grand five more times as well as being Noble Grand at Idaho City, Silver City and Nampa #40. I’ve really enjoyed being in the Odd Fellows, being with friends and helping others with the principles of Odd Fellows. I then joined encampment and in 2003 became Grand Patriarch. In 1996 I joined the canton in Boise and went through the ranks. I am currently President of the Military Council, Grand Senior Warden in the Grand Encampment. Condition Report of the Historical LodgesBoth Pioneer #1 and Owyhee #2
Pioneer#1has47membersandanaverageof15membersattendedthethreemeetingswehavehadthisyear.TheforthmeetingwillbenextSunday(October23,2010)withapotluckaftermeetings.Thisyearwehavetakeninthreenewmembersandtwoweregiventheinitiatorydegree. RoseRebekah#18,beingasthisLodgemeetsintheHistoricalLodgeHallasdoesPioneer#1,isconsideredahistoricallodge.Ithas40membersandanaverageof11membersattendedthethreemeetingswehavehadthisyear.ThisyearwetookintwonewmemberswithonebeinggiventheRebekahDegree. Owyhee#2has43membersandanaverageof9membersattendedthetwomeetingswehadthisyear.Wehaveapotluckatnoonwithameetingat1:00p.m.Thisyearwebroughtinonenewmember.
Historical Lodge Halls
Alotofworkhasbeenaccomplishedonbothbuildings.AtPioneerinthelastthreeyears,wehaverebuiltthefrontporch,theroofoverthestairs,fixedthewindows,paintedthefrontofthebuilding,putpreservativeontherestofbuilding,replacedbrokenbatsandboards,andputnewbatandboardsonthekitchenendofthebuilding.AllthisworkhasbeenaccomplishedwithgrantsanddonationsfromOddFellowsandRebekahs.ThisyeartheGrandLodgegaveus$5,000.00forworkonthebuilding.TheOddFellowshadtoputupaboutonethirdofthecost,therestwascoveredbygrants.ThankyouallforthehelpthatyouhavegiventoPioneer. Owyhee#2,asmostofyouknowtheLodgeHallwassoldtotheHomeownersAssociationin2001.Thelodgereceived$10,000forthebuilding.AmotionwasthenmadebyBenDrinkwinethattheinterestfromthisfundbeusedfortheHistoricalLodgesofIdaho.SincethenOwyheehasgiven$3,375toPioneerformaintenanceontheirbuilding.The$10,000isstillintactandquietlydrawinginterest.Thehavedonemajorrepairstothebuildingalready.Theyhavejackeditupandputafoundationunderit.Theyputoninsiderestroominitthatwecanuse.Italsohasanapartmentwhichoverthesummerisnotused.TheyareplanningtodothefrontofthebuildinglikewehavealreadydoneatPio-neer.AllthisworkhasbeendoneatnoexpensetotheOddFellows.WehavefreeuseofthebuildingaslongasthereisaLodgeinSilverCity.
Future
ThereisstillalotofworktobedoneatPioneer#1.OneofthethingsthatourHistoricalArchitect,FredWalters,pointedoutwasthatthefoundationwasliterallycrumbling.Thisisgoingtobeamajorundertakingtoreplace. In2010theOddFellowswillbecelebratingour150yearinIdaho.Atthe100celebrationin1964,theSovereignGrandMasterandtheGovernorofIdaho,alongwithmanydignitariesformedamotorcadeatthestatecapitalanddrovetoPioneer#1.AtthetimeRose#18putonagreatfeast.Manyspeechesweregivenandfunashadbyall.2010isaboutthreeyearsawaysoweneedtostartthinkingaboutwhatwearegoingtodotocelebrate.

4 Idaho sisters traveled together to the RebekahAssembly this year and say they had a fabulous timetogether&w/all theRebekahsistersthattheyhavenotseeninawhile. Carolynn Jones & Margret Abbott both served asFlag Bearers, Lydia Chane was the Warden and alsowasinstalledintohernewpositionasVicePresidentwithCarolyn,hersisterbeingherescort.Whatagreatnightthatwassharedbyall.ShandraChandlerservedat theInside Guardian& says she learned A LOTabout the“DOOR”.Thiswasthe1styearthatMargretAbbotthadattendedassemblyandsaysshewillbesuretobecomingback. Silver Leaf #27 Rebekah News SilverLeaf#27hasbeenverybusythisyear.ThefirstmeetinginSeptemberisalwaysalongoneasthereisalotofbusinesstoattendto.Weonlyhad10membersin attendance. Some were sick and some were out oftown. We sure miss them when they are absent. Wesendourthoughtsandprayerstothemall.Ourwonderfulorganizationisslowlydwindling.Welostthreeverygoodmembers over the summer. We draped our Charter inMemoryofDarleneCoatesandMarieSullivan.Wehaddraped our Charter in Memory of Bill Millick before werecessed in June. We have done and will do RebekahFuneralServicesonalloftheabovemembers.Wealsodidandwilldodinners for theabove.OurnewLodgeDeputy was elected, this being Georgia Skeen. Sheis always willing to pitch in when we need something.It was time to elect representatives to go to Assembly.ThesepeoplerepresentourLodgeattheStateLevel.#1willbeDorotheaJohnson,#2willbeShannonMunsonMcGhee.OurSecondRepwillbeunabletoattenddueto a family death so Linda Campbell was appointed assecondRep.OurLodgehasthehonorofhavingtheStatepresidentthisyear.SheisJoAnnJohnson.Thisisaverylarge undertaking and we commend her in doing this.Wearetryingtohelpherallwecanandwewishherallthebest.Wehave3newmemberswehopetoinitiateinNovember.TheyareSheilaFunk,BarbaraFoxandJamesSavaria.If anyone is interested in joining our GREATorganization please contact one of our members.
