In close cooperation the Print On-Demand Solutions (PODS) group and Konica Minolta created the IC-304 external print controller, based on the Creo Color Servers technology, PODS developed exclusively for Konica Minolta’s two digital colour production devices. Out-of-the-box colour and outstanding image quality, amazing ease of operation, an innovative feature set and powerful printing performance – with these characteristics the IC-304 print controller is perfectly suited to the complex demands and varied requirements of any professional production environment.

Despite its comprehensive functionality and complex capabilities the IC-304 has been designed for simple and straightforward operation and ease of use. Out-of-the-box colour and superior default colour settings provide excellent results instantly, while advanced colour management tools facilitate customisation to deliver highly individual output. The combination of Creo Colour Server’s market-leading colour capabilities with Konica Minolta’s very own Simitri® HD polymerised toner allows taking advantage of the maximum colour gamut, enabling the bizhub PRO C6500 and bizhub PRO C6500e/eP to produce truly spectacular print results.

Intuitive GUI

The IC-304’s graphical user interface (GUI) is intuitive, simple to learn and easy to operate, allowing operators to start producing flawless print results in no time at all. All users, no matter what their experience, can quickly master the system and create professional prints of highest quality. Additional flexibility is ensured with the incorporated Windows-based methodology and easy adaptation to the operators preferred user language with click-and-choose multi-language support. Saving time and resources, job parameters are easily defined, programmed and saved thanks to the Creo Colour Server’s print driver.

Complete colour control

Colour settings are easy to control and change. A predefined set of default values ensures quick success for novice users, while the built-in professional colour management tools aide customi-sation to produce the desired individual results. As a particular convenience gradation corrections are possible without re-ripping the entire file.

The IC-304’s colour capabilities have been specially adapted to use the bizhub PRO C6500/e/eP’s maximum colour gamut. Additionally, flexible calibration capabilities – including the ability to calibrate per media type – guarantee consistent colour output as close as possible to the original.

Job ticket parameters sent in JDF format are automatically converted into the stream server job ticket. The controller sends real-time JMF (job messaging format) status message relating to the server status. Seamless connectivity of the bizhub PRO C6500e/eP or bizhub PRO C6500 output system with graphic arts software applications and all types of hardware devices is thus ensured.

n Based on the Creo Colour Server Fusion imaging technology, Creo Colour Server’s proprietary Ready-to-print (RTP) job format streamlines not just the printing process. Reprinting is immediate without the need for reprocessing. At the same time RTP makes production completely device- and calibration-independent, keeping colours consistent anytime.

n Professional imposition is greatly facilitated with the IC-304’s advanced finishing features. Imposition parameters can be set from the job ticket and impositions simulated before sending them to print. Convenience is greatly enhanced with features such as step-and-continue, best fit, improve layout view. And the Tab Plug-in feature for example makes adding tab pages to a job fast and easy.

n As it’s seamlessly compatible with the bizhub PRO C6500/e/eP’s functionality the IC-304 also provides full support of Konica Minolta’s ITbit technology to improve the quality of text and graphics. The proprietary ITbit (Image Tag bit) technology enhances halftone printing, giving visibly better results for outlines, reversed and slim text.

n Gallop mode further accelerates the creation and production process: Printing can be set to start while a long job is still ripping, minimising the print engine‘s idle time and maximising production speed and efficiency. This way jobs can be compiled, printed and delivered in less time, increasing customer satisfaction and allowing for better margins.

n Improve text/line in image is a yet another quality enhancement feature proprietary to the IC-304: in layout work where text and/or lines run partly into images, the text reproduction is frequently unsatisfactory due to different rasterisation of text and image. With the IC-304 such text is first filtered from the image and then overlaid onto the image again, thus ensuring that all text is raster-ised as text and given an identical appearance.
