After this lesson, you will be able to…

● Identify main organs in the human

body

● Describe their functions

I can’t

wait to

learn!

Page 3: The HUmaN bODyleviner7481.weebly.com/uploads/8/5/8/1/85819272/structure_of_livin… · The left side of the human brain controls the right side of the body and the right side controls

In the human body, we have 11 major organ systems. In our

presentation, we will be talking about:

● Circulatory System - Heart

● Nervous System - Brain

● Respiratory System - Lungs

● Digestive System - Stomach and Intestines

● Skeletal System

● Muscular System

Organs & Body Systems!

Looks interesting!

The Circulatory System

● Delivers nutrients and oxygen to all

the cells in the body

● 3 main types of blood vessels:

arteries, veins, and capillaries

Page 5: The HUmaN bODyleviner7481.weebly.com/uploads/8/5/8/1/85819272/structure_of_livin… · The left side of the human brain controls the right side of the body and the right side controls

The Heart● Sends blood around your body, providing

your body with the oxygen and nutrients it

needs

● The right side of your heart receives blood

from the body and pumps it to the lungs, while

the left side of the heart receives blood from

the lungs and pumps it out to the body

Fun Facts: Your heart is

a muscle and is about

the size of your fist!

The Nervous System

● Responsible for the control over

the body and communication

between its parts

● The left side of the human brain

controls the right side of the body

and the right side controls the left

side of the body.

The biggest part of

the brain is called the

Cerebrum, it

controls your

thoughts and senses.

The second

biggest part is

called the

Cerebellum, it

controls your

movement and

your skeleton

The last part of

your brain is

called the

brainstem &

medulla, they help

keep your spine in

place

The Brain

The brain is in

charge of all

the things

your body

does to keep

you alive

The Respiratory System

● Gives oxygen to every part of the

body through breathing in oxygen

and exhaling carbon dioxide

● Oxygen that is taken in is never

permanently kept in the body

● The Respiratory System relies on

the Circulatory System to carry

oxygen throughout the body

Page 9: The HUmaN bODyleviner7481.weebly.com/uploads/8/5/8/1/85819272/structure_of_livin… · The left side of the human brain controls the right side of the body and the right side controls

● Allows oxygen in the air to be taken

into the body, while letting the body

get rid of carbon dioxide

● Lungs are the main organ in

breathing

The Lungs

The Digestive System

● A group of organs working

together to make food into energy

and necessary nutrients to feed the

whole body

Page 11: The HUmaN bODyleviner7481.weebly.com/uploads/8/5/8/1/85819272/structure_of_livin… · The left side of the human brain controls the right side of the body and the right side controls

●The Stomach

● Makes acid so it can break down food

and liquids

● Stomach muscles get smaller from

time to time, stirring up food to boost

digestion

The Intestines

● Large intestine: Absorbs water from

indigestible food and carries waste

from the body

Small intestine: Absorbs nutrients and

minerals from food

Did You Know? For an adult, the large

intestine is 5 feet long and the small

intestine is about 22 feet long.

The Skeletal System

● Babies are born with 300

bones and an adult has 206

bones.

● Bones don’t move on their

own, they need the help of

the muscles attached to

them.

● The skeleton protects the

organs inside the body and

provides movement.

The Muscular System

● About 700 muscles are

attached to the bones of the

skeletal system

● Muscles can contract (to get

smaller), pull, and relax, but

they can’t push or stretch

themselves

● The Muscular & Skeletal

systems are responsible for

moving the body

● We have 5 sensory organs:

eyes, skin, nose, ears, and

our tongues

● Using the 5 senses we have

sight, touch, smell, hearing,

and taste

● The sensory organs take in

sensory information that

gets transferred to the

brain, and the body

responds to these messages

Touch Sight, smell, & taste

Hearing

Movement: The skeleton and muscular system share a job. When the brain sends

signals to the muscles attached to the bones, the muscles contract, making the bones

move.

Support: The pelvic bones (where your hips are) are very important, they give the

body protection and support. The spinal column, with all the bones attached, except

the head, arms, and legs, gives shape and support to the part of the body known as the

torso.

Respiration: The Respiratory system and the lungs help with breathing and making

sure oxygen is given to every part of the body.

Circulation: The Circulatory system makes sure blood, oxygen, and nutrients are

flowing throughout the body.

What Body Parts Enable Movement, Support,

Respiration, and Circulation?

● The body makes something called sweat to keep itself cool. Sweat is a liquid make by

your skin when your body gets hot.

● Under the skin is something called sweat glands, that’s where it starts, then sweat comes

out through tiny holes in your skin called pores.

● Sweat is mostly made of water and some salts.

Activity

For the activity we will be having you play BINGO! with body parts. Please

follow directions and listen carefully!

1. Get your blank Bingo sheet and write your name on it

2. Write the heart, stomach, brain, small intestine, large intestine, lungs,

skin, and muscle randomly in the boxes

3. When we start, organ functions will be read aloud and you will write an

X on the organ name you believe is the correct answer.
