Scores of otherwise rationally thinking

Scores of otherwise rationallythinking people have been led tobelieve that in the tumultuousregion of the Middle East, Israel isoccupying Palestinian Land andinflicting the same aggression, fear and hurt against Palestiniansthat the Nazis inflicted againstJews in the Holocaust.people have been led to believe that in thetumultuous region of the Middle East, Isra-el is occupying Palestinian land and inflict-ing the same aggression, fear, and hurtagainst Palestinians that the Nazis inflictedagainst Jews in the Holocaust. I'll borrow the phrase of a popularnews network that claims, "We Report—You Decide."

The number-one popular claim against

Israel remains: "If Israel would stopoccupying the West Bank and Gaza,Palestinians wouldn't have to deployrockets and suicide bombers to defendthemselves from Israeli aggression."

"Israeli aggression" has nothing to dowith Arab terrorism. On Sunday morning,February 22, 1948, in anticipation of Isra-el's independence, a triple truck bomb wasdetonated by Arab terrorists on Jerusalem'sBen Yehuda Street. Fifty-four people werekilled and hundreds wounded. This eventtook place 19 years before Israel even had apresence in the West Bank or Gaza.

Arab terrorism is caused not by the"desperation" of "occupation," but by thevery thought of a Jewish State.

For years, western leaders have heldsummits, peace conferences, and madediplomatic visits in an effort to bring aboutpeace between Arabs and Jews in theMiddle East. Many have tried; all havefailed. They have used what they thoughtwere common sense approaches.

Yet, as recently as one year ago, someof the bloodiest conflicts in the region havetaken place. In response to unrelentingrocket attacks from the Gaza strip, Israelunleashed massive air attacks againstmilitant Hamas forces. More than 1,200Palestinians died. Currently there is aceasefire, but in the Middle East, everyoneknows that a ceasefire is tenuous at best—a

time for Arab forces to regroup and rearm.Hamas will continue to attack Israel

and no one will say a word, yet the momentIsrael responds, it will be the target ofworldwide condemnation. And just as hasbeen done throughout every ceasefire,Hamas and other terrorist groups will usethis time to acquire even greater numbersof rockets so they can attack Israel evenharder the next time. This is no secret.Hamas leaders themselves have publiclysaid this is their agenda during a ceasefire.

The Arabs asked for land—for theJews to leave—they were given100 percent of what they askedfor in that region—so why arethey attacking the Jews on theirborders in Israel-proper?

How do the conflicts start? Why dothey continue? Who's really to blame?

In 2005, Israel pulled out of Gaza. Thatmeans, all Jewish citizens left entire towns, beautiful homes, and businesses to give theArabs a completely Jew-free Gaza. (TheNazis called iijudenrein—"free of all Jews".)The Jews became refugees in Israel. Sincethat time, Hamas has launched more than6,000 rockets at Israel. Why? The Arabsasked for land—for the Jews to leave—theywere given 100 percent of what they askedfor in that region—so why are theyattacking the Jews on their borders in Israel-proper?

Did you see this reported on yourevening news? It seems the media onlycomes on the scene when Israel fires backto defend itself—painting Israel as theaggressor. What would the U.S. do if Mexicodeclared we had no right to exist and startedshooting rockets into our country? Wewould likely take strong military actionagainst Mexico until the attacks stopped. We would not wait for four years. That'sexactly what Israel is forced to do and yetthey get criticized for trying to protectthemselves. We wouldn't allow anyone toshoot at us. Why should they?

Indeed, the reason that there's nopeace in the Middle East is because everytime things are peaceful, Hamas startsattacking and initiating violence. Israel hasnever been the one to start aggression. Here's the definition of a ceasefire: Israelceases, and the Arabs continue to fire. Only

the return of Jesus will bring peace to theregion and to the world.

And then, of course, there is the side ofthose who favor the Palestinian cause. Theyclaim: "It is shocking how the Israeliscontinue their propaganda of being underconstant rocket fire." "What about the sea, air, and land attacks? And the occupationover the last 60 years?" "Israel is occupyingPalestinian land." Ask anyone, if someoneinvades your land, won't you fight back anyway you can?

"Israel is a terrorist country." "Hamasis the oppressed party fighting for theirrights and land. Israel is a bully operatingon the blind Jewish, 'We are the ChosenPeople' ideology. They are no differentfrom the Nazis. Our U.S. tax dollars aresupporting this terror. Write yourrepresentatives and demand that they cutfunding to Israel."

You can see how passionate thearguments are on both sides. Both sides saythe land belongs to them. Obviously oneof the two sides is wrong. Is there a way tofind out who is right? Of course there is. Oftwo things we can be certain, history andthe Bible, the Word of God. Neither ofthem lie. But if you don't know your history,it's easy to believe the lie.

There has never been a sovereignland called Palestine. Jerusalemhas never been their capital. There has never been a Palestin-ian language. There has been noPalestinian culture, nor has thereever been a Palestinian people.

Let me make the truth easy for you touncover. First let's look at the wordPalestinian itself. What is the origin of thatword? One of the popular and often-toldstories in Jewish history is where the RomanEmperor Titus and his army came intoJerusalem and destroyed the SecondTemple. About three years later, the Romanarmy came up Mount Masada where therewas a Jewish community that was trying toavoid the Romans.

Rather than being killed by theRomans, they all took their own lives. Manyof us know about Masada. But there is alater story that many of us do not knowand it happened in the year 132. Then

Roman emperor Hadrian changed thename of the city of Jerusalem to AeliaCapitolina, and he changed the name ofIsrael to Syria-Palestina. Palestina was theRoman word for "Philistine." And knowingthat the Philistines were Israel's fiercestenemy from history until then, Hadrianwanted to degrade the Jews by naming theircountry after their worst rivals.

Now, today's Palestinians arealso what are known as Muslims.Muslims follow the religion ofIslam. It is one of the fastestgrowing religions today. In fact, one out of every five people onthis planet follows the religionof Islam.

One of the claims made to the landtoday by Palestinians is that they are thedescendants of the original Philistines;therefore, they were in the land first—before the Jews. "It's our land, you JewishPeople," was their mantra, "and you can'thave it back. We want it for ourselves!"

Now that might be looked at as a fairlyconvincing argument, except for severalmaj or flaws, including this one in Amos 1:8that says God Himself would cause thePhilistines to become extinct. When Godmakes a promise, He keeps it. God madethe promise, and God kept the promise.Because 600 years before the religion ofIslam came to be, the Philistines were gonefor good.

The point is, if you say that you descendfrom a particular people group and thatgroup was long ago made extinct, it's kindof tough to have descendants from anextinct group of people. It simply is notthere. But if the Palestinians didn't comefrom the Philistines, where did they comefrom?

The facts are these—there has neverbeen a sovereign land called Palestine.Jerusalem has never been their capital. There has never been a Palestinianlanguage. There has been no Palestinianculture, nor has there ever been a Palestinianpeople. But don't believe me as a lewbecause I say it. I'm only quoting thePalestinian leaders who say it themselves.

Something that surprises manyinvolves a Dutch newspaper called Trouw

that published an interview in 1977 withPalestine Liberation Organization leaderZuheir Mohsen (1936-1979). Hiscomments were as follows. "The Palestinianpeople do not exist. The creation of aPalestinian state is only a means ofcontinuing our struggle against the state ofIsrael for our Arab unity.

"In reality there is no differencebetween Jordanians, Palestinians, Syriansand Lebanese. It is only for political andtactical reasons that we speak today aboutthe existence of a Palestinian people. SinceArab national interests demand that weposit the existence of a distinct 'Palestinianpeople' to oppose Zionism." (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zuheir_Mohsen.Trouw Interview.)

This is shocking! The Palestiniansthemselves admit that the whole idea of aPalestinian people is a lie!

Now, today's Palestinians are also whatare known as Muslims. Muslims follow thereligion of Islam. It is one of the fastestgrowing religions today. In fact, one out ofevery five people on this planet follows thereligion of Islam. Their prophet is Moham-med. Their holy book is known as theKoran, which they fully believe is theinspired word of their god, who they callAllah. In the Koran, it says that the Muslimswere the original inhabitants of the Landthat we refer to as Israel.

The Muslim holy book, the Koran, says that Israelbelongs to the Jews.

Their Koran says that Allah promisedthe Land to them through Abraham and hisson, Ishmael. Muslims believe thatAbraham and Ishmael were Muslim as welland so they say that the Land, according totheir god, is rightfully theirs.

Not only that, Muslims and even manyChristians believe that since the Land waspromised to Abraham's descendants, bothsides have a legitimate claim to it.

Now just a side note here. Before we getto that claim, did you know that the Mus-lim holy book, the Koran, says that Israelbelongs to the lews? That's right. Chaptersin the Koran are known as surahs. If you goto surah 17:102-203 from the Koran, it says:"Pharaoh sought to scare the Israelites outof the land of Israel but Allah drownedPharaoh together with all who were with

Both sides say the land belongsto them. Obviously one of thetwo sides is wrong. Is there away to find out who is right? Ofcourse there is. Of two thingswe can be certain, history andthe Bible, the Word of God.Neither of them lie. But if youdon't know your history, it'seasy to believe the lie.

.him. And then Allah said to the Israelites,'Dwell you Israelites in the land of Israeland when the promise of the hereaftercomes to be fulfilled, Allah shall assemblethe Israelites all together in the land of Isra-el.'"

It's in their holy book! Why aren't theyfollowing it? Well, those comments weremade by their prophet Mohammed whenhe was receiving revelations in a caveduring the time he was living in the city ofMecca. But, when he got kicked out ofMecca and later moved to Medina andstarted preaching on the streets that he wasGod's holy prophet and apostle, peoplewere inclined to go and take a look.

When people started listening toMohammed, the Jews said, "Wait a minute! He's not quoting Torah. He's a falseprophet." The Christians said, "He's nottalking about Jesus. He's a false prophet!"And after the Jews and Christians rejectedMohammed's message, all of a sudden,Allah's comments in the Koran about theJews and Christians weren't so niceanymore.

In fact, there's a comment in there thatsays, "Do not take the Jews or Christians asfriends, for in the hereafter, they will beamong the losers."

You don't need a land dispute to justifyyour hatred—your god is already doingthat for you. But if you are a Palestinian, you do need and you will use revisionisthistory such as this claim from the Arablands. Today's Arab Muslims say that whenRome invaded Jerusalem, every last Jew leftIsrael and effectively deserted the HolyLand. Therefore, any claim that JewishPeople say they have to the Land was given

up at that time. While many Jews did flee the city of

Jerusalem for their lives, they didn't leaveIsrael. They simply migrated to anothercity in Israel where they could live in safety. That town was called Yavneh, the placewhere rabbinic commentaries come from, writings of the Rabbis, even the Talmud, and the fact that we have those great workstoday proves that the Jewish People neverleft.

Unfortunately, so many peoplenever go back to study history.Instead they reason that theArabs must be right or theywouldn't be so willing to sacrificetheir sons and daughters.

Who came to take over Israel next? After the Romans were there for a whileand then the Byzantines, the Muslimsinvaded it. They actually made a deal withthe Jews, saying, "You Jews help us defeatthe Persians, and when we start ruling here,we'll let you back into Jerusalem." As weJewish people say, "Such a deal." So we didit. We helped them out. We came back intoJerusalem, and at first, Jewish People weretreated fairly well. It didn't last long, because when you don't believe in theMuslim prophet, you are known as adhimmi, an Arab word that refers to "itsnon-Islamic population that live in Islamic-conquered lands." You're a second-classcitizen!

After a while, Jewish People were

persecuted and forced to wear yellowbadges in the shape of the Star of David sothat they could be distinguished fromMuslims. Sound familiar? This is 1,000years before the Holocaust when Hitlerwould again force Jews to wear such badges.Where do you think he got the idea?

Muslim rule over Israel lasted untilaround 1100 when the Crusades came infrom the East. Muslims would later regaincontrol and again be kicked out by theOttoman Turks that ruled until 1918. ArabMuslims lost a lot of their glory long agowhen their empire fell. In their effort toregain that glory, they have tried changinghistory by throwing in violence and proteststo convince the world that they got short-changed along the way.

Unfortunately, so many people nevergo back to study history. Instead theyreason that the Arabs must be right or theywouldn't be so willing to sacrifice theirsons and daughters.

Today Palestinians claim that whathappened to them next was a travesty, andit's another key reason they believe Israelbelongs to them. The vast empire of GreatBritain wanted to add Israel to its collection. In order to do that, Britain needed to defeatthose Ottoman Turks who were rulingIsrael, but they couldn't do it without helpfrom the Arabs. They knew the Arabswanted to have their own homeland, sothey made a deal.

They promised if the Arabs would helpthem defeat the Ottoman Turks, they'd givethe Arabs their very own land. So the Arabshelped, believing that "the Land" would beIsrael. Wrong! In the end, Britain said,"Thanks for your help in our victory, Arabs.

www.JewishVoiceToday.org

Here's your land, Jordan." The Arabs feltthey got short changed and massive Arabrioting against Jews broke out in Israel. TheJews were claiming it was their land, andthe Arabs saw this as a threat to theirsovereign claim.

If God's intent was to haveIshmael share the Land, then whydid God kick Ishmael out and tellhim he would have to set up shopelsewhere?

It's good to see what the biblical viewof the Land is. Just as Muslims have theirholy book, we Christians and Jews haveours, the Bible. Like the Koran, the Biblesays that Abraham's descendants wouldinherit the Land through Isaac and Jacob—not Ishmael.

Abraham fell facedown; helaughed and said to himself, "Will ason be born to a man a hundredyears old? Will Sarah bear a child atthe age of ninety?" And Abrahamsaid to God, "If only Ishmael mightlive under your blessing!" Then Godsaid, "Yes, but your wife Sarah willbear you a son, and you will call himIsaac. I will establish my covenantwith him as an everlasting covenantfor his descendants after him."

—Genesis 17:17-19 NIV

So the Land Covenant made with Godand Abraham would extend from Abrahamthrough Isaac and Jacob, but not through

Ishmael. The Bible does promise thatIshmael would also become a great nation, but that nation would not be Israel. Theseare the words of the very Word of Goditself. Of that there is no dispute.

Think about it, Ishmael was to have hisown land. If God's intent was to have Ish-mael share the Land, then why did Godkick Ishmael out and tell him he wouldhave to set up shop elsewhere? Clearly theLand belongs to those who descendedfrom the Twelve Tribes—the Jews. The Lordspoke to the prophet Jeremiah, saying:

"The time is coming," declaresthe LORD, "when I will make a newcovenant with the house of Israeland with the house of Judah. It willnot be like the covenant I made withtheir forefathers when I took themby the hand to lead them out ofEgypt, because they broke mycovenant, though I was a husband tothem," declares the LORD. "This isthe covenant I will make with thehouse of Israel after that time,"declares the LORD. "I will put mylaw in their minds and write it ontheir hearts. I will be their God, andthey will be my people."

—Jeremiah 31:31-33

Clearly the Bible says that thoughIsrael broke covenant with God, He did notcast them out as His Covenant People. Hesimply extended a new covenant to them inorder that their blessings would remainintact. God's covenant promises are eternal.

Does not Romans 3:23 say that all havesinned and fall short of the glory of God?Why would God remove His covenantblessings from one people group becausethey were sinful, in order to bestow thosevery same blessings on another group ofequally sinful people? It doesn't makesense.

It's amazing to hear people like Iran'sMahmoud Ahmadinejad saying Israelneeds to be wiped off the face of the earth.I say, "Be careful, Mr. President, get in line. You're not the first, and you won't be thelast."

While Britain had managed to kick outthose Ottoman Turks with help from bothJews and Arabs, in 1947 the Brits also triedto manage a harmonious relationshipbetween the two groups. They proposedthat Arabs could live peacefully with Jews, with Great Britain trying to oversee it—arecipe for disaster! In fact, in 1947 afterattempting this for some 20 years, Britainfinally raised her hands up in the air andsaid, "We don't have a clue. Who couldpossibly come along to help us bring aboutpeace between Arabs and Jews? Who wouldbe fair to both sides? How about the UnitedNations?" What a revelation.

So in 1947, the United Nationsapproved Resolution 180 in order topartition the Land of Israel, dividing Israelbetween Arabs and Jews. The land allocatedto Arabs consisted of all of the highlandsexcept for Jerusalem, plus one third of thecoastline. The land designated to the Jewsconsisted of three fertile valley lands, theShomron, the Jezreel, and the Jordan. Thebulk of territory that went to the Jewsturned out to be the desert, the Negev, which back then was not believed to besuitable for any type of agriculture nordevelopment. Not surprisingly, nobodywanted that.

There was no Arab claim made to ituntil they started seeing that Jews weregrowing crops in the desert! They began tosee trees and fields also! The Jewish statealso had sole access to the Red Sea then. The vast majority of Jews accepted the 1947plan, but the Arabs rejected it saying, ineffect, that all of the land was theirsaccording to the deal they'd made withGreat Britain. Anything less wasunacceptable.

And the battle continues to rage.Sadly, many professing Christians

declare that Israel is occupying Arab land.

But a Christian should support what theBible says. And the Bible says that Israel isnot the occupier here. In fact, the biblicalborders of Israel can be found in Numbers34. Today, Israel is slightly less than the sizeof Rhode Island. It should be four timesthat size! Israel once included parts ofLebanon, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Iran, Iraq, asection of Saudi Arabia, and part of Egypt. The Land that is actually referred to as Israeltoday is only 25 percent of what they claimthey are rightfully entitled to.

May 14,1948 was a pivotal datein Israel's history—the day Israelwas recognized by the world as itsown sovereign nation, fulfillingtwo prophecies in Isaiah 66:7-8.

Both the Arabs and the Jews helpedBritain to oust the Ottoman Turks. TheArabs thought Israel would be their reward, but Britain never made any such deal withthe Arabs. They did, however, make thatdeal with the Jews. To the Jews, Britain said,"You're real good friends with the UnitedStates. And we could use their help to kickout these Ottoman Turks. If you werewilling to convince the U.S. to help us, we'dgive you your own land." Sound familiar?Promises were made on both sides.

But in 1917 Britain fulfilled that part ofthe agreement by issuing what was calledthe Balfour Declaration, a letter written byBritain's Lord Balfour, stating that the Jewswere entitled to have their own land. Itreads in part: "His Majesty's governmentview with favour the establishment of anational home for the Jewish people, andwill use their best endeavors to facilitate theachievement of this object, it being clearlyunderstood that nothing shall be donewhich may prejudice the civil and religiousrights of existing non-Jewish communitiesin Palestine, or the rights and politicalstatus enj oyed by Jews in any other country."

The Arabs were outraged, and thebattle has been raging ever since. Who isthe occupier? Whose land is it? As manyknow May 14, 1948 was a pivotal date inIsrael's history—the day Israel wasrecognized by the world as its own sovereignnation, fulfilling two prophecies in Isaiah66:7-8. The first says Israel would be bornin one day. And the second says after thebirth, then the labor pains would come.

What could this mean? I had to take acloser look at what Isaiah 66 was talkingabout.

Israel was born in one day. As dawnbroke in the early morning hours of May14, 1948, Israel was still under Britishmandate. The last British troops left onships that day from the Port of Haifa.Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, convened a council meeting laterin the day that overwhelmingly voted thatIsrael would be its own sovereign state—going from British rule to independence injust one day. Just like Isaiah said it wouldhappen. What about those labor pains? This happened too. Because following thebirth of Israel's independence, seven Arabnations declared war against her, and thepains have not stopped since.

Arab radio broadcasted a message toArabs living in Israel. "All our Arab brothersand sisters," they said, "tomorrow we willliberate you from Israel. They are occupyingour land. We need your support. Be advisedto leave your homes, run to the borders, and fight Israel with us! We will emergevictorious. Not only will you be able to goback into Israel and to your own home andyour own land, but you will also inherit thehome and the land of your Israelineighbor."

In the early 1960s there arose oneamong them named YassarArafat, who said, "If we promote alie often enough, people willbelieve it." He remembered thewords of Joseph Goebbelsfromthe Holocaust: "If you tell a lie bigenough and keep repeating it,people will eventually come tobelieve it. The truth is thegreatest enemy of the State."

Simultaneously, Israeli radio broad-casted a message in Arabic to those sameArabs living among them, saying: "Pleasedon't run to the borders and fight againstus. We consider you our brothers, our sis-ters, our friends, our family. We will protectyou. You have just as much right to be hereas we do. Just do not run to the borders tofight against us."

18 j Jewish yo/ce7bdayMARCH/APRlL20io www.JewishVoiceToday.org

Page 6: The Hostorical Significance Of Israel Jewish Voice Today Mar Apr 2010

But thousands upon thousands ofArabs who were living in Israel ran for theborders. When the battle came, Israelhandily defeated each and every one of herenemies. Those Arabs who had left theirland later claimed they were refugees, whoIsrael had kicked out. No! No! No! Aftertheir side had lost, they said, "We mighthave lost, but let's try again in a couple ofyears to go back home."

What a novel idea, but when theyreturned to the Israeli border, policestopped them. "Excuse me. What are youdoing?"

"What do you mean? I live here.""Not anymore.""Well, what do you want me to do?""Go to Jordan or Lebanon or Syria.

After all, you were willing to risk your lifefor those countries. Surely they wouldwelcome you."

The Arabs went to Syria, Lebanon,Egypt, and Iran, and they all said, "Youcan't come here. It was never our goal toabsorb you into our country. Our goal wasto defeat Israel and have you colonize it forus as a new Arab nation, but since that

didn't happen, go somewhere else."For the next 60 years, these people

lived in refugee camps. In the early 1960sthere arose one among them named YassarArafat, who said, "If we promote a lie oftenenough, people will believe it." Heremembered the words of Joseph Goebbelsfrom the Holocaust: "If you tell a lie bigenough and keep repeating it, people willeventually come to believe it. The truth isthe greatest enemy of the State."

The Palestinians said, "We weredisplaced. That land is our land. Our goingsforth are from days of old. We are thedescendants of the Philistines. Here is ourflag. Here is our military. Here are ourpolice."

And the world is buying it hook, line, and sinker. This is a spiritual battle. Their

holy book says, "In order for you to honorme, you must kill every last Jew on the faceof the earth." And in the writings of theMuslims, something called the hadith, itsays, "Oh look, there is a tree. The trees willcry out, 'There is a Jew behind the tree, come and kill him.'"

This had nothing to do with land—itdidn't then, and it doesn't now.

Peace will only come when Jesusreturns. Meantime, let us be sharp andastute enough not to believe the lies. Let usnot support those who seek to give awaythe Land. Let us not support those who in anumber of Christian denominations haveeither already issued or are on the verge ofissuing resolutions calling for divestmentwith companies doing business in Israel. This nonsense has to stop!
