Testing at the Napanee Generating Station (NGS)
Beginning this week for approximately the next 4-6 weeks, TransCanada’s Napanee Generating
Station (NGS) will be cleaning its fuel gas lines in preparation for plant start up later this year.
Completing this work - known as “air blows” - requires the use of compressed air forced through
the fuel gas lines to remove any debris that might be present from construction. These lines are
totally contained on the NGS site. Air blows are expected to take place daily but will be restricted to
day time hours starting at approximately 8:00 a.m. and ending no later than 7:00 p.m. Blows can
last from between 10 and 60 seconds each, with several air blows expected each day.
During the air blow process, site neighbours may notice louder than usual sound levels near
the NGS site.
Site neighbours within a 2-km radius of the site are being informed of this activity via letter.
TransCanada apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any questions or
concerns, please contact Peter Webster at 613.352.7304.

8 Notice of decision please check the lccra website or contact Trudy Gravel, Approvals

Final date of appeal is July 23rd.

Missing Poole Noodles
A couple of years ago some of the aquafit group did a fund raiser to raise money for a pool
box and noodles for the residents to use. We also had a generous grant from the LCCRA.
Last week, it was noticed that a couple of the more expensive noodles were missing from
the box. The cost to replace these would be $20+ each. These ones were purchased as
they are more durable and longer lasting than the cheaper ones you find at the dollar stores.
If 2 purple noodles with a white stripe through the middle and LCCRA written on the end
have mistakenly ended up in your home, it would be very much appreciated if they could be
returned to the pool box. These are meant for the enjoyment of all the Loyalist residents.
NOTE: these noodles may have been returned by the printing of the Honking Goose,
if that is the case we greatly appreciate your assistance.
Executive Members Required
The Loyalist Country Club Residents Association (LCCRA) works on your behalf to
improve the social activity and facilities for the community. Your ten dollar membership gives
us the funds we need to help sponsor events, publish the local telephone directory, run the
website and cover the cost of transport to local events.
We could not do any of this without the help of volunteers from the community. We are
looking for help on the committee. The dynamic and friendly team which forms the executive
has the following two volunteer opportunities available. Come and join our team working for
the community.
4
Recording Secretary.
Responsible for the following.
• Record and publish minutes of the monthly meetings of the LCCRA executive
• Distributing proposed agendas,
• Arranging for the meeting room at the clubhouse
• Be available as a backup signing authority for the issuing of cheques by the
treasurer.
This person should have reasonable data capture skills, be computer literate and available
for meetings once per month. A resident who is here most of the year would be a huge
asset.
Marketing and Outreach Director.
The LCCRA has a very active community and a very active website reaching almost 800
persons, this resource is of interest to many businesses in the surrounding area. You would
act as a contact point for these businesses and obtain sponsorship support for our
organization. In the beginning, you will work with the president and the board to develop a
marketing strategy and upon approval, implement that plan.
If you have any interest in either of the two volunteer positions or would like more
information please contact
The President LCCRA Paul D. Swinwood

Travel and Tips
(Travel and Tips is a regular series on the adventures of LCCRA members. If you have a
travel experience you wish to share, please send the Honking Goose a summary of 600 words
or less and a few pictures and we will make sure it gets into our next edition.)
France’s Finest
This was our first visit to France and third Viking cruise. To us, cruising provides tremendous
value in minimizing packing and unpacking suitcases while getting to travel and explore many
different locations. And, we found a connection to Loyalist Township while in France!
We began our trip with a 3-day
stay in Nice exploring this
Mediterranean seaside city and
coastline. We enjoyed one of the best
foodie tours with a local guide tasting
many Nicoise specialties and local
wines. A highlight was a short drive
along the coast through Monte Carlo
which was still decked out for their
annual Formula 1 Grand Prix race held 2 weeks earlier (including the famous hairpin turn) as well as
walking the grounds of the Royal Palace and the famous Casino in Monaco. It was more of a
spectacle to look at the Lamborghinis, Bentleys and Jags parked out front of the casino, each in their
own ‘chained’ parking spot to ensure visitors like us didn’t get too close.
We then joined our 8-day cruise of the Rhone in southern France sailing from Avignon to
Lyon. Many of our excursions took us to quaint villages along the river as well as vineyards, as well
as the Pope’s Palace in Avignon where the Popes lived from 1309 – 1409. Lyon is a beautiful city in
the heart of France and within 1 to 2 hours, by train, of many other major cities, both in France and
abroad.
We traveled 2 hours by train from Lyon to Paris to join up with our second cruise along the
Seine. In our view, the scenery along the Seine is much more picturesque than the Rhone, and
much more populated. There were 2 highlights of this cruise which initially attracted us to booking
13
this trip . . . visiting French impressionist painter Claude Monet’s property in Giverny – touring his
house, viewing some of his paintings, touring his gardens and water lily pond, and, paying our
respects in Normandy where we walked Juno Beach and visited the Juno Beach Centre which is
dedicated to remembering our Canadian veterans who stormed that beach on D-Day in 1944.
This is where we
encountered the connection to
Loyalist Township. Outside the
Centre are 12 – 15 pylon type
memorial columns each bearing
200 – 300 small blue plaques from
various companies and
organizations commemorating the
sacrifice made by Canadian
soldiers that day. Tina came
across 2 plaques that had personal meaning to us, BMO (where I retired after 38 years) and Loyalist
Township. We were honoured to see both, particularly the one from Loyalist Township. It made us
feel proud of the community we now call home.
We haven’t mentioned much about Paris in this review however it’s everything we had
previously read about it . . . the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe erected by Napoleon, the
shopping, the nightlife & lights, and the food . . . all of which was exceeded only by the feverish
passion everyone displayed for Team France in the current World Cup of Soccer. We could write
another review simply on Paris!
We ended our visit to France spending 3 days in the Loire Valley touring castles, chateaus
and enjoying white wine which they are known for. And what better way to end our trip than to stay in
the restored ‘hunting chateau’ of King Louis XIII and one final night in Paris.
Lloyd and Tina Fleming
