On fire for God
• Romans 12:11 “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.”
• The Message “Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame.”
• NLT “Serve the Lord enthusiastically.
On fire for God
• AMP 11 “Never lag in zeal and in earnest endeavor; be aglow and burning with the Spirit, serving the Lord.”
• Zeal, earnest, aglow, burning, all describe a passion for the Lord.
Lukewarm
• Revelation 3:16 “So, because you are lukewarm — neither hot nor cold — I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”
• “Lukewarm means what?
• What does “lukewarmness” feel like for us?
Lukewarm
• Revelation 2:4 “Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love.”
• What does this verse mean to you?
• Where are you with your passion and love for God?
• How do we love God?
Fan into flames
• II Timothy 1:6 “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.”
• Paul is talking about the “Baptism of the Holy Spirit”. Acts 1:4
• The power of wind and fire.
The Power
• The power comes from three sources, fire, wind, and oil.
• The 10 Greek words for power used in Ephesians 1 :18-23
• Acts 1:8 Colossians 2:10 Luke 9:1 and 10:19 Romans 8:11,31
The Fire
• The Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 3:11 and Acts 2:1-4
• I Thessalonians 5:19 “Do not put out the Spirit’s fire.”
• “Spiritual fervor” Romans 12:11 Acts 18:25 Leviticus 6:12-13
The Fire
• Passion – a heated fire fueled by the Holy Spirit and a love for God.
• Zeal – a great energy and devotion.
• Inspiration – to be in-spirited, full of the Spirit of God.
• Enthusiasm – Greek “en” “theos”.
The Wind
• Acts 2:2 “Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.”
• The Hebrew word for “wind” and for “spirit” is “ruach”. Gen 1:1-2
The Anointing
• The oil is symbolic of the Holy Spirit.
• 1 John 2:20 “But you have an anointing from the Holy One.”
• What was the purpose of the “anointing oil” in the Bible?
• Why do we “anoint” people?
